Study: Americans support preemptive nuclear strikes on Iran

By iStockphotoAround 60 percent of Americans support preemptive nuclear strikes under certain conditions, according to a study released by the University of Iowa Monday. And almost three-quarters of those surveyed support a preemptive nuclear attack if Iran is the target.

When researchers named Iran as the potential target, Republicans were most likely to support nuclear action. However, when the target was nameless, Democrats were most likely to support nuclear actions.

According to UI News Services:

Republicans were more likely to support a nuclear attack on Iran, and Democrats were more likely to support such force against an unspecified country. Eighty-five percent of Republicans, 75 percent of Democrats and 66 percent of independents supported a nuclear strike on Iran. When no country was named, support was at 63 percent among Democrats, 52 percent among Republicans and 50 percent among independents.

Iran has been a hot news item recently. U.S. officials — including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — have talked about joining with other nations to issue sanctions against Iran amid suspicions Iran plans to expand its nuclear activities.

The poll, released Monday, was conducted March 27 through April 3. Of the 703 participants, 33 percent were Democrat, 30 percent Republican and 28 percent independent. Fifty-one percent considered themselves moderate, while 14 percent were liberal and 34 percent were conservative. Results are weighted by state population, age and gender. The margin of error for the full sample is plus or minus 3.9 percent.

Wow..This is unreal..I can’t believe that we are even talking about using nukes period.. The only thing dumber then dropping bombs on Iraq is dropping nukes on Iran.. Iran is on the precipice of a natural political revolution that leans towards a representative democracy.. If we end up nuking Iran that would pretty much end all progress in advancing Iran/ US relations for generations.. What is happening to this country??

Hey, Minnesota Independent! How about doing a little reporting instead of stenography? Dig down and actually give the question that was asked in the poll. All the poll questions begin with the phrase “To protect US…” With that vague qualifier, it makes it sound like the United States is already in peril, so it’s not really pre-emptive. Many will think, “Sure, why wouldn’t I want to protect US?” And yet, you don’t use the word “protect” in your article. BAD POLL. BAD ARTICLE.

So,… we are using nukes against the country, we are blaming is in the process of developing nukes, to teach them possession of nukes is wrong.

Priceless!

A poll of 703 Iowans is probably not worthy of too much concern. Nothing to do with Iowa, the sample size is simply too small to infer any significant conclusions.

I don’t want this administration anywhere near the Red Button. And bring all the boys home. Japan, Korea, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan. They are on their own! Shore up the border, build Star Wars, and let the rest of the world have sex with themselves.

I am not surprised. The same way American people were fooled to go to war with Iraq, twice!!, they are being fooled by lies and half truth again.

I want you to go and ask those same 60%:

How many American boys and girls have to die for Israel?
maybe in you your mind those boys and girls were just a bunch of white trash losers who would been killed in the ghettos anyway.

how many more trillions of dollars we should wasted and bring the entire US into bankruptcy?

Americans, if you love your country grow up!
