Bachmann helps launch GOP ‘Americans Speaking Out’ site
Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 6:28 pm
Rep. Michele Bachmann spent Tuesday heavily promoting a new website by the House Republican Conference. “America Speaking Out” was created “to build a new policy agenda for America by engaging Americans through a variety of different platforms,” and it’s paid for with taxpayer money. The website has generated an interesting mix of policy ideas ranging from legalizing gay marriage to forcing Latinos to “speak English like all the rest of the races.”
Bachmann released this video on Tuesday announcing the new website:
On Tuesday, Bachmann also appeared on Fox News Happy Hour program, penned a piece for the Fox News website and appeared on Ed Morrissey’s radio program.
“This is all paid for through our ordinary budgets,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner. CBS News said the launch party on Tuesday alone cost taxpayers $8,500.
So far, many of the ideas on Americans Speaking Out include progressive ideas such as legalizing all drugs, legalizing gay marriage, taxing the rich to forcing Latinos to speak English and adding an amendment to the constitution proclaiming America a Christian nation. One commenter even wants Sarah Palin and Levi Johnson to reconcile.
In the Immigration section, one commenter said:
“The crime and chaos at the southern border are not because of migrant workers. It is a result of an out-of-control drug trade. Americans who use those drugs are the root of the problem of crime at the border. Anyone caught using (not selling) illegal drugs must do service by performing labor tasks commonly done by illegal immigrants. This helps solve both problems.”
But from the other side of the issue, several comments decried Latino influence on American culture:
“I oppose the Hispanicization of America, and we should do all we can to resist such an influence on our culture. These are not patriotic people. They celebrate Cinco de Mayo more enthusiastically than the 4th of July! If we do nothing, they will take over. We should also deport pedophiles.”
“Constitutional amendment: English the official language of the United States of America. It will be better off for everyone if Hispanics and Latinos become official citizens and become like the rest of Americans – which includes speaking English like all the rest of the races.”
Some comments in the Strengthening Families section wanted a “Christian nation”:
“I propose a constitutional amendment that solidifies the fact that America is a Christian Nation to counteract the liberals assertation that it is not.”
“I propose we repeal the 19th amendment and replace it with a Constitutional Amendment that proclaims America is a Christian nation.”
While others in the same section favored gay marriage:
“Sarah Palin and Levis Johnson need to get back together for the sakes of Truck and Tractor.”
“Governments at any level should look to remove themselves from the issue of marriage at all. The government has no voice in whether my marriage is legitimate or not, since marriage is fundamentally a religious or cultural issue. Instead of sanctioning one form, two forms, or many forms of marriage, the government should try to distance itself from the idea of marriage and limit itself to enforcement of contracts between individuals.”
“Any member of congress who commits a crime must resign immediately, including adultery, prostitution, and statutory rape. There are several members who admitted to such crimes but continue to serve in congress.”
And one comment urged the former governor of Alaska to reconcile with her daughter’s baby’s father:
“Sarah Palin and Levis Johnson need to get back together for the sakes of Truck and Tractor.”

“This site was developed by House Republicans as part of an official effort to increase the dialogue between Americans and their Congress. Here, Americans are provided a new platform to share their priorities and ideas for a national policy agenda. As Republicans, we are committed to our principles of limited, more accountable government; economic freedom; lower taxes; fiscal responsibility; protecting life, American values, and the Constitution; and providing for strong national security. This is an open forum, however, where all Americans are welcome to respectfully offer their opinions, regardless of party affiliation and whether we endorse them or not. It is our hope the active engagement of the American people will produce a robust debate that will aid in the construction of a new American agenda.”
Nice of them to throw in the Constitution, there at the end.
“We collect this Personal Information in order to provide you with timely information via e-mail regarding events, resources and issues.”
That’s right, you are really signing up to hear it from them, more than they listening to you.
Of course, they will ignore anything contrary to republican ideology.
This is not about putting together an agenda days before the end of session. This has nothing to do with legislation. They just need something to campaign on. This is about audience participation, creating the illusion of listening to the disenfranchised. And maybe picking up a few slogans along the way.
This is a taxpayer-funded campaign gimmick designed solely to help the GOP.
PORK!

If they wanted our opinion, maybe they should have paid for our opinion, not paid for it with our money.

The arrogance of the career politicians have generated a movement throughout the country that says “throw the bums out”. We all know that scenario is unrealistic because most people tell us that “throw the bums out” applies to all politicians except representatives from their own district.
So my solution is that “throw the bums out” should apply to any Politician that has been in any elected office for twelve years or more, and therefore should not be reelected. This should apply to all Democrats, republicans, independents, liberal or conservative. If they have been in any elective office for twelve years or more, then it is time for them to pursue another occupation.
We all can list numerous reasons why a career Politician should be removed from office; therefore we need new minds that are concerned about the people and not the lobbyist or getting reelected.

The American people have been too passive too long. We listen over and over again to people who trash this country and pretend we don’t hear it. Now look where we are and where we’re headed. I think there should be a reality show that portrays the “exact” conditions people face and live by socialist government. I think we’ve forgotten our heritage and the real reason this country was formed in the first place. And for all you liberal @#@$%##%$ out there. Love it or leave it.
