Emmer on anti-gay hard rock ministry: ‘These are nice people’

Bradlee Dean, Tom Emmer

The Republican-endorsed candidate for governor, Tom Emmer, told the Star Tribune’s Rachel Stassen-Berger that You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Intl., Inc., “are nice people.” You Can Run is a ministry that brings it’s hard rock evangelism into public schools across the Midwest and its front man, Bradlee Dean, told radio listeners recently that Muslim countries that call for the execution of gays and lesbians are “more moral than even the American Christians.”

Emmer’s campaign has given money to the ministry, and Emmer has appeared on Dean’s radio show, been to Dean’s house and posed for a picture with leaders of the ministry following his endorsement by the Republican Party.

“My understanding is that it’s a Christian-based ministry that’s about family, that is about respect for yourself….I know that they’re a pro-marriage, pro-traditional marriage group,” Emmer told the Strib.

“These are nice people. Are we going to agree on everything? No….I really appreciate their passion and you know what I respect their point of view,” he said. “I respect their right to have whatever view. That’s what makes it a great country. You don’t have to agree with it.”

Emmer is too extreme for Minnesotans.

The typical tag line when supporting racism, bigotry, and hatred: “Are we going to agree on everything? No!”

Yeah, but it’s the parts you DO agree about that make you a bigot.

Anyone who advocates for the the execution of any group of people are ‘NOT nice people’. Because you happen to agree with them about some things doesn’t make them or you nice.

The group in question brings “hard rock evangelism” (including their own unique brand of homophobia) into public schools? And TAXPAYERS are footing the bill???

Why is it “good” to express your different opinion when you agree with it. The country is always “big enough” for this diversity when you’re on the same side. When someone wants to fix healthcare, hold businesses accountable for the money WE GAVE them then the opinions of the other side are “fascist” and there is no room for that sort of unamerican opinion.

Gay people have repeatedly proven themselves valuable assets to the community over and over. Can we please stop beating this dead horse and move on to some new non-issues to argue over.

Why is a religious group being allowed to evangelize in the public schools?

School assemblies are paid for by taxpayers. They are not intended as captive audiences for ANY religious group to evangelize.

According to the same Old Testament writings, adulterers were to be put to death.

Senator Vitter, sentenced to death.
Senator Ensign, sentenced to death.
Newt Gingrich, sentenced to death.
Ted Haggert, sentenced to death.
and of course,
Bill Clinton, sentenced to death
Elliot Spitzer, sentenced to death.
and
Jesse James, sentenced to death.
Tiger Woods, sentenced to death.

What a fun endless bloodbath we would have, killing killing killing in the name of God. Before we start killing homosexuals, shouldn’t we start killing adulterers? After all, that destroys more marriages than anything else.

By the way, it is written that Jesus said that anyone who divorces and marries another commits adultery. Let’s kill all the divorced people who remarried. THAT’S the real Christian religion, killing killing killing.

And they call Islam a violent religion.

So, Emmer is saying he admires a bunch of psychos who think gays–human beings–should die. He is sick, and so is Bradlee Dean, and the others in his “ministry.” People like this reinforce my decision to flee the Christian religion like a fly from a spider web. Christianity has been hijacked by mental cases who have nothing better to do than pass judgment and spread hate. Who did Jesus say could cast the first stone?? Oh, yeah, the one without sin! Minnesotans, a vote for Emmer is a vote for hate!!!

Honestly – this “band” is being mentioned not for their music, but for their idiotic message. Obviously the music sucks and the lead singer is desperately trying to emulate Axl Rose. I doubt anyone with 2 brains cells will be sucked in by his message (excepts the dummies that already agree with their moronic messsage). If you can’t play in a real venue then you suck and more than likely most kids won’t be swayed by bad musicians who have to perform in school cafeterias.

You are ALL commenting on information that you know nothing about. If you would do a little bit of research, you would find that this BAND that you are accusing of “advocating the death of gay people” does NOT in fact ADVOCATE THIS. http://youcanruninternational.com/news/affirming-our-stance-on-homosexuality.html
Seriously, give them a chance to defend themselves!

It is disheartening that people will wait in the shadows; just champing at the bit- to twist the truth and throw blame in any direction they can. Why don’t you try embracing each other’s goodness and see where that gets you? The picture that most of you paint of Christians is not what it is about; unfortunately somewhere along the line here a distorted image was made for you. God loves ALL people; gay, straight, short, tall…you name it. He made all of us, and He loves every single one of us whether we want him to or not. He gives us all the same opportunity to allow Him to be a part of our lives. The choice is yours…

A lot of dirty stuff goes into what is call ‘Christian’; apparently even executions of innocent people are not beyond their pale. A lot of what is called ‘Christian’ today is just pathetic sickness. Target should have investigated Emmer a lot more closely before putting up all that money for him. Pathetic decision making.

@Romans:

And just what “chance” are we able to give God to be part of our lives if Bradlee Dean and his ilk get their way and we’re executed??? (He DID say that liberals, gays and Obama were all criminals–it’s a quote.) I don’t know what “chance” we’re supposed to give him after that, but I, for one, shan’t be cutting him any slack.

Why?! why is it that the human race is so evil, why is it that people in this world get a kick out of hating their brothers and sisters. Why? Why is it that we can’t all love each other the way god intended it for us. I hate myself because i know that i will have to bring up my children in this world full of hate and people like tom emmer. Why do you hate them so much Tom, WHY?! What is it that they did to you that makes you detest every fiber of their being. If you think that you are doing good, HA!, think again Mr. Emmer. I am more than sure that god is looking down on you right now and he is dissapointed. Mr. Emmer mark my words the day that you die you shall be shunned at the gates of heaven and your soul will be forced to spend the rest of eternity burning in the deep firesof hell. Have Fun.
