Bradlee Dean says Minnesota Independent ‘twisted’ his words
Friday, June 04, 2010 at 7:00 am
Bradlee Dean of You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Intl., Inc., says that the Minnesota Independent has “twisted” and “falsified” his statement on his AM 1280 radio show that suggested that Muslim countries that call for the execution of homosexuals are more moral than American Christians. He did not address his statements that African countries that imprison gays and lesbians are “moral” and “right.”
Here’s a portion of Dean’s statement defending his remarks (the full statement can be read at his website):
There is a journalist in the Twin Cities – Mr. Andy Birkey of the Minnesota Independent — who habitually falsifies our message – a message that has a long and consistent history. For years we have spoken out about the sinfulness of the gay life style without ever suggesting that gays should be subject to any kind of repression, let alone violence, either by the state or any individual or group. We have made the Christian position clear and stated it consistently over the years: Homosexuals are sinners who, like all sinners, need to be loved and respected as human beings by the church with a view to their redemption and transition — just as heterosexuals who engage in fornication and adultery need to be admonished because of God’s love and the love he has given us for ourselves and others as sinners in need of a Redeemer (1 Corinthians 6:9). The media in Minnesota, even nationally, is very familiar with our message and its consistency. And so there is no excuse for lying about it — falsifying it by removing it from its total history and context. Birkey in particular is guilty of twisting the meaning of our ministry and suggesting that it is associated with people and ideologies we have specifically repudiated.
Dean says that he rejects the practice of executing homosexuals and said his statement may “not have been as clear as we would have otherwise planned it to be.”
For example, we have specifically rejected, as all Christians do, the Islamic doctrine, and actual practice, of executing homosexuals. But some have claimed, in effect, that by merely mentioning the execution of homosexuals (as a criminal practice of Islam), on our radio broadcast, we have suggested it for consideration. Obviously this is absurd. The whole point was to contrast the Islamic position with the Christian position. This may not have been as clear as we would have otherwise planned it to be. Live radio is not scripted. But everyone who knows us knows that this is our position because we have stated it consistently for years – long before we ever discussed the topic on the radio. There are board members, and other supporters who can vouch for this. We have never and will never call for the execution of homosexuals. This is a complete misinterpretation by design.
Here’s what Dean said on his May 15 radio show:
“Muslims are calling for the executions of homosexuals in America,” Dean said. “This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than even the American Christians do, because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination.”
“If America won’t enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that,” Dean said later. “That is what you are seeing in America.”
“The bottom line is this… they [homosexuals] play the victim when they are, in fact, the predator. On average, they molest 117 people before they’re found out. How many kids have been destroyed, how many adults have been destroyed because of crimes against nature?”
Here’s the audio clip for context of his remarks:

“This just shows you they themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible of the Judeo-Christian God, …”
So it is a law that you have to kill people who engage in homosexual acts, according to Dean.
“If America won’t enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that,” Dean said later. “That is what you are seeing in America.”
So if America doesn’t enforce the laws, i.e. killing gays, God will raise up a foreign enemy who will kill the gays and apparently kill a lot of Christians too, otherwise why is this a threat to Dean?
Summary: It’s a law to kill gays. If you don’t, God will let someone invade and kill the gays and you too.
You see, like Dean says, it’s all about love and support.

Get off the cross, Mr. Dean. Someone else needs the wood.

The idea that Andy Birkey needs to twist Dean’s words is absurd. Bradless Dean got caught with his foot in his mouth and his hand in his pants, and now he needs to backtrack and point out that what he said wasn’t *really* what he said. Puh-lease.

I guess if we are going to start living according to biblical law, all heterosexuals who were not virgins when they were married are to be executed as well?
But wait…
Wouldn’t that leave us ALL dead by stoning?

Do you think that this Bradlee Dean guy is so hateful to gays because he looks like a drag queen and gets hit on by gays a lot? I can’t figure there is any real reason to get so upset over other people’s choices. Its’ just not that big a deal to me what the sexual choices anybody makes so long as it involves consenting adults. Why is Bradlee so hung up on it? Is he secretly gay like that Hagarty guy?

I believe Bradlee is showing sincerity by posting the letter, which shows he is really trying to love on the gay community. After seeing the entire letter I do believe that his intent was taken out of context. I am convinced that he is sincere.

I think it’s sad that Bradlee Dean reaches out to the homosexual community and writes a cool letter of explanation to clear up the situation, that the homosexuals are still not receiving his heart for them.

I’ve been listening to Dean and his sidekicks every weekend, for as long as I can stomach them, and have been appalled and nauseated by this cluster of ignorant, religiously insane bastards. Good god! Listen to their show sometime for just five minutes. I e-mailed the Southern Poverty Law Center to take a look-see at these “christians” without commenting on the dumbass content; hopefully they will.

If our president is reported to be Muslim, supports, and advocates for Muslims what does this say for the homosexuals, American’s, or anyone else that doesn’t conform to the Muslim faith? I find it interesting the life of homosexuals is of no concern in this message board however; gossiping on a retraction of inaccurate and out of context reporting is the primary focus.
Andy Birkey, thank you for the appropriate titled article.

As an individual that loves God and the bible, I know that I have sinned and fallen short.
However, Jesus did not cast the stone at the adulterist. He told her to go and sin no more. I don’t hate the sinners, but the sin. We all have sinned. We must keep seeking the Lords will. Not just give up and do whatever.
Gods Word doesn’t change, ever. He made rules for our own good.

Laurie, You worded it so well. When their eyes receive sight and their ears can hear they will turn from their sin and be healed.
Because You Can Run But You Cannot Hide Intl is Christian I know this is their view as well. Too bad their name and intent were smeared.

I live in a predominantly gay neighborhood and my neighbors are the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. They know I’m not gay but have always been very welcoming and never made me feel like an outcast. I have also lived in towns with large religious populations where more than two thirds of the people I encountered would reject anything different. These “good” christians would use racial slurs, called people fags, and pretty much make life hell on anyone who didn’t go with the flow. But on Sundays they would go to church and I guess that would make up for it. I’m not saying all religious people are bad and I’m not saying all gay people are good. I just don’t care what people do in the bedroom, I care how they treat people.

I don’t know why the host and the caller were laughing at someone who commented that sodomy laws were unconstitutional. In Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court found that sodomy laws WERE unconstitutional. She also said “gays are lobbying for something illegal”, but homosexuality is not illegal in the US. She also said using alcohol was ‘unlawful’, but prohibition ended in 1933. Do these people have any knowledge of basic US law?
He says “muslims are more moral” because they want to kill gays? Muslims also kill women accused of adultery (which is also a capital offense in the Bible). Deuteronomy 21:18-21 calls for the stoning of disobedient sons. Does Bradlee think these people should be killed too? BTW, I Cor. 11:14: it is a shame for a man to have long hair. Guess it’s really easy to pick and choose what you want to believe, right?
And gays molest, on the average, 177 kids? Where are the facts to back this up? That is an outright lie and ridiculous based on basic logic. That is also mathematically impossible–unless every person (man, woman, adult, child) in a city was getting molested. (example: city with a population of 500,000 with 3% gay population=15,000 gays. Approx 50% men=7,500 gay men. 7,500 gay men x 117 victims = 877,500 victims–that’s more people than actually live in the city. Also remember that 98% of child molesters are straight men, so that total of 877.500 doesn’t even include the children molested by straight men. )
Comment posted June 12, 2010 @ 2:39 pm
People don’t suspect others of bad behavior unless they’re capable of doing it themselves. The statistic mentioned about “117 people” is generally publicized about child molesters. If he thinks all gay people are predators, he’s just stupid. And now he’s doing what he accuses them of–playing a victim. You spot it, you got it. His views are his own, not THE Christian way. He’s struggling with his own understanding of God, his own sexuality, and he doesn’t want to take responsibility for any of it yet. He’ll get there one day.

I am straight, I’m 55 and I have been married for 33 years. I have had gay friend since I was 20 and now I have many. All of them are normal, wonderful, kind, hard working people. This is a huge slam and is absolutely filled with lies. His numbers about accosted children refers to pedophiles and most pedophiles are straight. I do not know if the numbers are correct but most pedophiles have many victims. Oddly, many are in the Catholic Church.
This is lies, lies, lies. It is hurtful and dangerous. I call it hate and bigotry. And I don’t care what Bradlee calls it. Shame on this man.
I hope his extremism wakes up people in this country. Cherry picking from the Bible to harm innocent people is disgusting. It is using religion as a shield for real hate.

Hope you didn’t have shrimp today. That’s two strikes, dude. Two words, Mr. Dean: Internalized Homophobia. I will pray for you, ridiculuous man.
Comment posted July 26, 2010 @ 11:32 pm
Where in the Bible can you find Homosexuality being condoned as normal? Where can all of you people document that “heterosexual white males” are the predominant pedophiles? Is it because of the 17-21 year old guys are charged with statutory rape with their younger girl friends? How come most pedophile “big news” cases involve some Jacka$$ making it with young boys? NORMAL sex doesn’t involve young people nor same sex couples. Originally, sex meant procreation. Tactile sensations meant that anyone feeling their way of sex normal or not was okay…just where is that true in the grand scheme of things? I think not. Justify and rationalize all you want…it still doesn’t change the fact that abnormal is abnormal. Being Christian isn’t to condemn the perpetrator, just the act. It is God who will judge us all.

This is your subjective opinion regarding religion that you have chosen to practice. And I have chosen a secular life with NO religion of any kind in it. Is that cool with you? Or are you like this turd Dean going to preach the way of living that you have chosen and I did not?

Hey John Hallman,
In 1992, alarmed over claims made during a campaign for an anti-gay state constitutional amendment in Colorado, two physicians reviewed every case of suspected child molestation evaluated at Children’s Hospital in Denver over a one-year period. Of the 269 cases determined to involve molestation by an adult, only two of the perpetrators could be identified as gay or lesbian. The researchers concluded that the risk of child sexual abuse by an identifiably gay or lesbian person was between zero and 3.1%, and that the risk of such abuse by the heterosexual partner of a relative was over 100 times greater.[8]
AND
Approximately 80 percent of sexually molested children are girls.[11] Persons focusing only on the remaining 20 percent of molestations–and, even then, only on the small fraction of these crimes committed by gay men–are not authentically concerned with combating sexual abuse of children. Their primary interest lies in perpetuating fear.

Kudos to Bradley Dean. The proof is in what he says. I myself have nothing against Gay and Lesbians for their choice of this lifestyle, but when you throw your agenda in my face and tell me how to act and behave towards your lifestyle, well then people like Bradlee Dan get my support.

It’s sad to me that in 2010 so many people are still so close-minded. And for those of you that believe in God, I’m pretty sure your main job here on earth is to not judge your brothers and sisters, gay or straight, black or white, muslim or christian. It seems to me that most “Christians” have turned themselves into that exact opposite of God and Christ with all the hate they spread. I myself believe in God, but not a god that hates gays or anyone else for that matter.

I wonder why these fanatical “Loving” Christians single out homosexuality as an abomination (and punishable by death) when there is a long list of other “abominations” with death sentences…
The Bible prescribes the death penalty for the following activities, among others:
* Murder
* adultery (Leviticus 20) and rape (Deuteronomy 22)
o A betrothed woman who does not cry out while being raped (Deuteronomy 22:23-4)
o A woman who is found not to have been a virgin on the night of her wedding (Deuteronomy 22:13-22)
* Worshiping other gods (Deuteronomy 13:6-13:10, Exodus 22:20)
o Witchcraft (Exodus 22:18)
o Taking God’s name in vain or cursing God’s name (Leviticus 24:16)
* Cursing a parent (Exodus 21:15, 21:17, Leviticus 20:9, and in the New Testament Mark 7:10)
* Kidnapping (Exodus 21:16)

@Toni:
I am a Christian, and Jesus Christ didn’t advocate killing sinners. He taught love, kindness, and forgiveness. He showed mercy to everyone. What is being portrayed as Christianity today is a complete bastardization of this faith similar to the Jihadist and Islam.
These hate mongers like Bradlee aren’t representatives of the Christian faith, but they may be the reason it dies.

Bradlee Dean does more for destroying the Christian faith than satan himself. He is a mental midget with all the understanding of a 2-year old. Everyone with compassion and/or any social conscience should vote against Tom Emmer regardless if they are right, left or center. Minnesota is better than these morons. You Can Run is a pseudo-christian, hate group that advocates the execution of homosexuals. You don’t have to be gay or lesbian to be outraged by this! I am a devout, life-long Christian who is disgusted by the rhetoric of America’s own homegrown Taliban, the ultra-right fundamentalists (whitewashed sepulchers) and their doctrines of hate. No More! I will not tolerate such bigotry in any form; I won’t lend support to racists or bigots of any other kind. I will not be a part of this bigotry and the persecution of my fellow Americans seeking equal protection under the law for their families. It’s despicable. Support diversity and stop financially supporting those who don’t.

His house is north on county road 3 at the junction of Co Rd 3 and 37 in Wright County MN. His is about 2 miles north on the west side of the road with the only white picket fence on the road. His house is behind the hill down his driveway, but that is where he lives. Hopefully the weirdo moves soon.

The New Testament was a new covenant to man. Why is the Old Testament being quoted? There are ways to say things without being inflammatory in the way you say it and I think this sounds inflammatory. Those Sons of Liberty radio guys say things but as of yet, I have not heard them say something that might be construed as hateful towards Gays.
