Bachmann stars in “Socialism: A Clear and Present Danger”

Rep. Michele Bachmann appears in a new documentary by Coral Ridge Ministries called “Socialism: A Clear and Present Danger.” The film questions “whether socialism is the Bible’s prescription for the underprivileged and assesses socialism’s track record in Venezuela, Cuba and elsewhere.” The film’s creators conclude definitively in the first few minutes that socialism is decidedly anti-Jesus.
The film combines clips from speeches by President Obama and interviews by individuals like Bachmann with images of the Communist Manifesto and of figures like Stalin, Castro, Mao and Hugo Chavez.
In the first part of the video, Bachmann says that Americans should pay taxes because Jesus said so, but only 10 percent.
“What Jesus said, ‘Render to Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and render unto God that which is God’s,’ so there certainly is a place for us to pay taxes to government. That’s legitimate. We should do that as Jesus instructs,” she said.

A still from the documentary
She continued, “But we render to God that which is God’s and the Bible calls for, approximately we are thinking of tithe, maybe 10 percent that we are giving to God, but beyond that we also give to charity. Jesus didn’t ask government to be the charity; he asks the the individual and the church to be charitable.”
In the second segment, Bachmann says Americans have become slaves to government.
“We’ve become indentured servants to the government. That’s not what the founders envisioned for us,” she said. “They envisioned that we would work for ourselves, for our families, grow the nation. The new view that government has of those of us who are citizens is that now we exist to serve government. We need to reverse course so we can get back to freedom.”
Coral Ridge Ministries is a religious right group that has made it a mission to oppose Obama’s policies. The group also raised the ire of Jewish groups for saying Hitler committed the atrocities of the Holocaust because be believed in evolution.

Jesus said if you have two coats and your neighbor has none, give one away.
Jesus said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven.
Jesus told the rich young ruler to give everything he owned to the poor and then follow him.
Right wing Republicans believe in social Darwinism, economic Darwinism. Jesus spoke out against this, and was firmly on the side of the poor and outcast.
Are the Christians in this country doing what Jesus said? Are they firmly on the side of the poor and the outcast? “Whatever you did to the least of these, you did to me”.

Tim, they don’t like that Jesus. They like the Jesus who said he was bringing not peace, but a sword, and would set brother against brother.

Just look at some of the posters here, like Dennis, who constantly throw the Bible around, but are clearly ignorant of what’s actually in it. Whatever whackjob beliefs they have, they’re convinced that the Bible supports them, somehow.

Michele Bachmann has certainly become a servant to the government, but I wouldn’t call it “indentured.” She’s happily taken a paycheck every time–currently $174,000 a year–and lives in a $1.25 million mansion. Not bad for an “indentured servant.”
Bachmann has never had anything but a government job. And if she gets re-elected, she’ll be vested in yet another government entitlement and we’ll be paying her a congressional pension for the rest of her life too.

How can a poster be ignorant of the Bible and accurately quote it? Clearly, the Bible can be taken as supporting all sorts of wackos (including many televangelists, popes, etc). But, when someone quotes the Bible, their quote is either correct or incorrect. You, nor anybody else, get to interpret what the Bible “really” means. God and Jesus do not need your help. So, either those quotes are correct or they are not. I am pretty sure they are correct and their message is clear.

‘You, nor anybody else, get to interpret what the Bible “really” means.’
Be sure to let the 33,000 or so Christian denominations know that, because each of them is pretty sure they know what the Bible “really” means, and each of them disagrees in some way over that meaning.

This is why they’re so vocal in keeping “under God” in our national pledge. No separation of church and state for these noble Christians. No sir!

“socialism is decidedly anti-Jesus”.
But the ministry of prosperity screams Jesus Christ?
Take whatever bible verses you like, no one can honestly beleive the teachings of Jesus meant for certain people to become fabulously wealthy preaching his word, while actively denying help to those that they disagree with.

What Christian trradition solidly teaches in its mainstream, not just the 32,999 fringes is the principle of free will. The good has to be freely chosen, not coerced. Be it by force, influence, etc., the moral choice must be freely made. This is a fundamental difference between eastern theocracy and Marx-inspired societies which puts Christianity at such odds with these opposing worldviews. Some sects of christian origin teach similar ideas that the individual is fundamentally flawed and therefore must be controlled (Calvinist) but the great majority of historic christian thought stands opposed to that view, which is a foundational component of Marx. Charity must be a free will choice to be truly charitable and just, to force this choice exposes a clear prejudice about the goodness or lack therof in man.
So, are we animals or are we free?

I have read the Bible – in its entirety – over a dozen times.
To Tim & Chayanov; no where in the Bible does it say, ‘Go thee, and elect politician A. And Politician A shall go verily to Citizen B. And though Citizen B worked hard for his money, Politician A shall taketh money from Citizen B by much coercion. Politician A shall hireth bureaucrat C, and pay him richly. (And thus, bureaucrat C will vote for Politician A). Bureaucrat C shall use the remaining 30% of Citizen B’s funds and give those funds to Citizen D. Bureaucrat C will discourage Citizen D to not work, but to instead vote for Politician A.’
Tim and Chayanov, the Bible says you and your local church do it.
In regards to the Great and Glorious Government you worship, go see I Samuel chapter 8. When the Hebrews wanted a bigger more involved and unlimited government, God through the prophet warned them against it.
Finally, Karl, you are wrong. Michelle Bachman worked in the private sector for decades before running for congress.

Thanks for the Bible lesson, Steve. I take it that you agree with Bachmann. But I have a couple of questions for you then. First, I’m familiar with 1 Samuel ch. 8. I don’t agree with your interpretation that the Israelites were clamoring for “bigger more involved and unlimited government.” I think they were asking for a government, specifically a king, whom God gave them in the form of Saul, after they were unable to govern themselves and hold to God’s laws under the Judges. We know how that all worked out in the end when they got that wish. I don’t hear anybody saying we don’t need government or that we should get a king again.
Second, can’t we agree that what you and Bachmann are against is not “bigger and more involved and unlimited government” but against using the bigger and more involved government we have for certain purposes you don’t seem to like, like making sure banks don’t charge usurious interest, insurance companies don’t rip people off and refuse to insure them for pre-existing conditions and people who work their whole lives can retire without living in destitution, the families who don’t earn enough can still send their children to college, etc.? That is, you’re against the government doing anything that would improve people’s lives. Maybe the Bible doesn’t say that you should do that but tell me where it says you shouldn’t or that you should be against using government for improving people’s lives? People likeyou and Bachmann have no problem with interfering with private reproductive choices, or taxing people for unlimited military budgets, large standing armies and navies and foreign military escapades. You apparently have no problem with corrupt elected officials either because you are opposed to ending corporate “free speech”.I can’t see anything that you are for except a “free market system” which never has existed and exists only today in your imaginary world.
Third, can you please tell me what exactly Michele Bachmann did for decades in the “private sector”? I know she gets agricultural subsidies through her husbands family farm. I also assume she received government subsidies for “raising 23 foster kids” because that’s how the program works. I also know she claims to have been a “federal tax attorney” whatever that is and that she billed herself as an expert (“Dr. Michele Bachmann”) on children’s education. Has she done anything else?

Gee, thanks Steve. Maybe next time you can address what I actually wrote instead of what you pretended I wrote.

What manner of economic-lifestyle accompanies being filled with the Holy Ghost? It is written in the New Testament:
Acts 2 44-45:
“And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.”
Acts 4 31-35:
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one mind and one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things of which he possessed was his own; but they had all things in common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was their any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostle’s feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.”
You can read for yourself (Acts 5:1-11) what happened to a married couple that held back a portion for themselves.
It seems to me that it may well be, if you believe the Bible, that to offer a blanket condemnation of communism/socialism would be to condemn the Holy Ghost itself. And as Jesus says in Matthew 12:32: “…whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”
~
And, by the way, have you ever heard right-wingers denounce “bleeding heart” liberalism? “Bleeding heart” refers to Christ. That phrase actually denounces liberals by likening them to Jesus! Seems to me that says a lot.

The connection between being filled with the Holy Ghost, and distributing wealth according to need, can be found in the phrase “And the multitude of them that believed were of one mind and one soul” (See above).
Just as a healthy body distributes nutrition within itself according to need, so also when people are of one mind and one soul, they distribute resources amongst themselves according to need. Anyone filled with the Holy Ghost would understand this just by virtue of the “one mind and one soul” experience.
The admonition that it is difficult for “a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God” relates to how the allure of personal wealth stands as an obstacle between a person and the “one mind one soul” group experience.

Why do the voter’s of her district tolerate her nonsense. She is grabbing a US Treasury check on the first of the month as her salary. What the hell is she doing appearing in a documentary when we have record unemployment, foreclosures, two wars going on, and dizzy Bachmann has the time to be in a movie?
She should be run out of her district on a rail. Are her constituent’s aware that she has now missed 90% of the hearings she is supposed to be attending as part of her JOB? She’s so full of herself that she has abdicated those duties as well……..but she has time to appear on Fox at the drop of the hat or on the radio with her fellow crackpots.
Defeat this dummy and fraud in November.

“Jesus said if you have two coats and your neighbor has none, give one away.”
And Christians do just that, more so than non-Christians (you can look it up). Jesus never once advocated for a government program. He wanted us all to give directly to those in need, not to a government agent.
Surely even people like Tim, Chayanov, et al can understand the difference. It’s not that people like Mark Z hate God, it’s just that he’d rather worship government.

I am glad i live in NM not MN. We don’t have nearly as many knotheads as you do. We do have one who wants to put landmines on the border but he will pay for that comment.
I do feel for you since you can’t seem to get rid of yours.

socialism obviously means different things to different people. For Mrs. Bachmann the words seems a projective test in which she sees all manner of evil. None of those evils are hallmarks of socialism of course, just Mrs. Bachmann’s projections onto it.
Wasn’t it Churchill who said, “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” ?
Oh to have a statesman like Churchill, instead of a misguided and disconnected religious extremist representing the Mn 6th.

Why doesn’t miss loony tunes Bachmann tell us about the 1980s with Ronald Reagan who was an actual socialist? Money the middle class was handed upward into the pockets of the very wealthy and the huge multi million and billion dollar corporations. Tax havens really protected them, tax cuts were always heavily in their favor. Which meant tripling up the financial problems left from the Jimmy Carter’s administration; at the end of Reagan’s 2 terms.

This movie is the work of the Assembly of Christ, and the Family cult and it’s money comes from the Dominionist Movement which want to install a taliban like fundamentalist government in America.

- Feed the hungry! Help those in trouble! Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you shall be as bright as day. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too; and you will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. (Isaiah 58:10-11)
- Yet, you show no respect to poor people. Don’t rich people oppress you and drag you into court? Aren’t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear? You are doing right if you obey this law from the highest authority: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If you favor one person over another, you’re sinning, and this law convicts you of being disobedient. (James 2:6-9)
- For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him. (Psalm 12:5)
- Because oppressed people are robbed and needy people groan, I will now arise, says the LORD. I will provide safety for those who long for it. (Psalm 12:5)

Okay, here’s the deal. I truly understand everyone’s arguments on both sides of these issues. However, having just lived through what can only be described as living, breathing, soul-sucking social darwinism in its glory, I have to say this is a black and white issue.
Please don’t let the fanatical Christians turn you off from following the teachings of Jesus. If you had survived a cultist, socialist, Obama worshipping workplace like I just did, you would completely understand that this evil is real. You are either with God or against him; things have become polarized – and we all must make a choice.
The survival of the fittest mentality is all too real in today’s workplace and the ones who choose to “kill” instead of being “killed” will do anything (or anyone) and forsake all innate morals to get what they want. They truly believe that the human race is evolving into an “enlightened” race versus a dumber race (Christians). They believe they are higher on the evolutionary trac and therefore have the right to wipe out those supposedly lower on the evolutionary chart.
These people are driven by pleasure, power and money and don’t even see that their sexual urges are more animalistic than most in the animal kingdom. If you go back to the morals you had as a child (hopefully), you will remember that the difference between human and animal is the former has a soul – which is the ability to apply moral behavior above instinct and desire.
Don’t feel like you are sacrificing your intelligence if you are forced to choose creationism over evolution; it may save your soul.
