Another unemployment extension vote this week?
Thursday, July 01, 2010 at 1:17 pm
The Hill reported last night that the U.S. Senate had adjourned for the July 4 recess without passing the unemployment benefits extension bill, but Lynda Waddington of our sister site the Iowa Independent is reporting that another vote on the bill may take place tonight.
Another vote on a bill to extend federal unemployment insurance benefits for the long-term unemployed may come to the floor of the Senate as early as Thursday night, according to U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.
“I hope that we can get this done — we only missed it by one vote yesterday — I hope we can pass it tonight before we go home for the 4th of July,” Harkin said early Thursday during a conference call with reporters.

We could only hope that the President calls for a special session to call the senate back to vote on the matter. Otherwise most of the unemployed who have been cut off since June 2nd, will be out on the street by the time they reconvene. Unfortunately this will just push the economy into a downward spiral of foreclosures and bankruptcy.

I have worked my whole entire life to be unemployed after 25 years. My unemployment runs out in 2 weeks. I have no more resources. I worry every night wondering whats going to happen to me and my son in two weeks. Will I be homeless for the first time in my life. I wish the inter fighting stop amoung the democrats and republicans. This isn’t about them. It’s about human lifes falling apart while they bicker over there own personal agendas. Please Pass This Extension. For all our sakes.

With the death of Senator Byrd, I do not think that the extension could be passed until he is replaced – which will likely be done during the Fourth of July break.
I wish it could be passed sooner, but that would require another republican to put the country first. Not holding my breath.

alicia…. how can we forget…
we should start our own party. instead of the ‘tea party’, we should become the ‘is this how you repay me?’ party…
and our slogan should be:
‘we’ve worked hard for government, now government better start working hard for us!…
‘all others need not apply, no more free rides for government’…

To all of you,
I am sorry for the ones who have been off unemployment for the past month. I hope you have all found resources to help you survive.
There is no way that the government can say that people haven’t been looking for jobs and are trying to just live off unemployment because there is not enough jobs to take care of us. I look for a job everyday. Everyday for the past year. That is work. Budgeting and finding a way to get by everyday is hard work! Living without things that we are used to is work!
The government has divided funding for states and states have taken the money and created useless projects that wage state workers a good earning. Who is going to use the Amtrak railway when we don’t have money to eat?
Why don’t the people in congress break off a piece of their paychecks and they will know what it feels like to get by on $8.00 an hour.
People are hungry, we are not a third world country; we are supposed to be civilized. What the heck is the problem here.
