Clark rakes in donations, but Bachmann brings in more
Wednesday, July 07, 2010 at 4:07 pm
The official numbers won’t be public until the middle of the July, but Rep. Michele Bachmann and her opponent Tarryl Clark both released their second quarter fundraising numbers, and the figures are staggering for each candidate vying for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District seat.
Republican incumbent Bachmann had the stronger quarter, bringing in $1.7 million. Her total raised for the current cycle is now at $4.1 million. Clark, the Democratic challenger for the seat, drew $910,000, with a total of $2 million raised. What remains unclear is the amount of cash each candidate still has on hand, but those figures will be included in each candidate’s report to the FEC due on the 15th. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the race for the 6th Congressional District was already the third most expensive House race before the new torrent of contributions.
The numbers would seem to put Clark at a significant disadvantage headed into the general election, but her large contributions this early into the race should give her campaign hope in defeating Bachmann. Only a month ago, Clark still faced a primary challenge before Maureen Reed dropped out of the race. Now that she is the presumed DFL candidate, she can count on all Democratic donations, and with Bachmann’s high national profile, she will likely draw substantial sums from outside Minnesota. She has already capitalized on Bachmann’s notoriety, pulling in over $30,000 to run an ad attacking Bachmann’s support for the oil giant BP.

I love it when democrats throw their own money down the toilet for a change. That crushing sound you hear is Clark’s chances for November.

You guys should just rename this site Bachmann Watcher! Bachmann is my representative, she isn’t perfect but she has my vote over any Minnesota democrat.

Can’t wait for July to expose where Crazy Bachmann got all this moola.

Bachmann had a little help from her friend on the lam–$10,000 help, to be exact. Maybe Michele can help the IRS find her friend when they come a-looking for him:

No amount of money could buy back Michelle’s sanity. She’s gone, never to return.

Past elections indicate that her district is heavily gerrymandered in her favor, which adds greater importance to the next state legislature and governor.
Tinklenberg got a big boost from her blathering last time around, but too late to overcome the radical mindset.
This time, the Democrats are better prepared and have a better candidate.
Yet Bachmann has spent the past two years taking her prejudice, ignorance, and lies on national tour – and still enjoys considerable support. A sad commentary on the radical right and the power of propaganda.
The third point is how many supporters Bachmann has lost to foreclosures, and how many the Democrats have lost to fear or frustration.
Good luck, Tarryl Clark.

Zera Lee – I’d say that Bachmann’s “considerable support” from the taxpayers would be for different reasons but that would be my biased view. I contribute to her war chest and I don’t even live in her district. She’s loved and supported by conservatives nationwide.

Dennis, tells you where on the continuum those nationwide conservatives that love her really sit.

It’s not surprising that that Dumb Broad Bachmann raked in more $$$.. She is a wholly owned subsidiary of BP, Exxon and Wal*Church .. Whats wrong with Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District?? I envision a bunch of sloped fore-headed, hairy knuckled trailer park dwellers that give half of their paychecks to the Evil Mega-Church corporations..

@marcus_w71 I find it funny you would ridicule those poor people living in trailers who may not even be able to afford heath insurance . Aren’t you one of those compassionate democrats who care for those less fortunate than yourself?
I live in Bachmann’s district as I’ve already mentioned and we’re doing well. Thank you for your concern.

No! I am not compassionate.. I HATE all Republicans! Period! I also hate poor uneducated trash that votes for the same party that waves a carrot in front of their face and at the same time steals their wallet(what patriotic fools) .. Of course your a Republican Matt.. ALL life on Earth is based on how well YOUR doing.. Just because there is no turds in your sand box doesn’t mean that whole world is peachy..

@marcus_w71 Well it didn’t take long at all for you to reveal your true liberal/democrat insanity and self contradiction. So you’re not compassionate yet you expect it of me. You say, “Just because there is no turds in your sand box doesn’t mean that whole world is peachy.” ….does that mean you’re a turd looking for a free wipe up?

Money can’t always buy you love in these campaigns. Another Minnesotan, the late Senator Wellstone, beat an incumbent who outspent him 7 to 1 in 1990.
Clark is the best candidate the Dems have put up against Bachmann. She is attractive, smart, articulate, and a proven leader and effective legislator.
Clark is running an excellent ground campaign in the district, same as what Wellstone did. Bachmann, OTOH, is afraid to even show up in her own district. She has done nothing for people in her district, the one that has the highest foreclosure rate in the state.
This will be a horse race.

@Matt .. (again)..
Conservatives are are supposed to be compassionate and liberals are the “Bleeding Hearts” Remember?? Same difference, different parties .. Tomato Tomatoe..
Yes there are turds in my sand box .. One turd is called Tim Pawlenty with his backdoor Tax increase on my property.. The other turd is unemployment and NAFTA.. Republican sympathizer Bill Clinton made sure gut jobs in this country.. The other turd is that there are no jobs that make close to what I need to make a mortgage payment.. Sorry your hero Wal*Mart doesn’t pay the electrician wages I used to make in order to live my American Dream.. You wonder why I hate Republicans and Sympathizer Dems? Come and step in my sand box and bring some paper towels..
