After saying he’d cut minimum wage, Emmer sets meeting with servers

GOP-endorsed gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer’s damage control continues after his statement earlier this week calling for a cut in the minimum wage for tip earners. He has already sent out an e-mail defending his remarks, and next Wednesday he will meet with servers at Ol’ Mexico Restaurante and Cantina in Roseville:

Tom Emmer announced today he will hold a town meeting with servers in the hospitality industry next Wednesday to listen to their concerns regarding wages, tips, taxes and health care.

…“This week we met with business owners and next week we will listen to the employees, especially servers concerned about the tip credit issue. I’m looking forward to a robust discussion.”

Emmer has been attacked for his remarks by various sources over the past few days. The owner of the restaurant that Emmer originally cited refuted the notion that any of his employees earn $100,000 a year, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote a scathing editorial titled Tip to Emmer: Drop gratuity idea.

Emmer’s potential general election opponents have pounced on Emmer’s misstep.  One of the candidates for the DFL nomination, Margaret Anderson Kelliher, went the other direction Friday, calling for an increase to Minnesota’s minimum wage. In a press release, Kelliher said she would increase the minimum wage by $1.50 per hour if elected:

“Clearly Tom Emmer is out of touch with the challenges facing hard-working families struggling in this economy. What he has proposed is no different than stealing tips off the tables of working people.”

Just let it go Tom! Your special meeting is a ridiculous idea. Do you really think they’ll vote for you after you said that servers make too much money?

That Ol’ Mexico is two miles from my house.. I used to frequent it quite often until the Roseville Cops started parking across the street every night.. I KNOW that the owners are a bunch of Beck Style Troll Baggers.. Of course Ol Mex’s Republican owners are going to be friendly to Tommy “The Fat Neck” Emmer.. Next Wednesday huh? Should I put the eggs on the porch now or Monday??

Emmer’s wasting his time. Anyone who has to work for minimum wage isn’t a candidate for voting republican anyway.

To err is human. To cling to those errors and repeat them endlessly is republican.

I’m sure the servers at the meeting will be carefully screened. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that they are given prepared questions to ask (“Mr. Emmer, how can I roll over and play dead so corporate interests can have free rein in Minnesota?”).

http://www.ServersAgainstEmmer.com has a great idea. Leave a little voting “tip” for your server with your tip next time you eat out:

“Wage Suppression and Slavery,” really? Ol’ Mexico isn’t a big chain of restaurants, it’s a small business that supports a lot of people. No one is bigger than anyone there and the cops don’t park across the street every night. I KNOW. It’s one thing to disagree with Emmer’s comments, it’s another thing altogether to blame Ol Mex and its employees.
By the way, with your concern for police vehicles at night, I can only assume you like to push the envelope when it comes to drinking and driving. I think a lot of people would have issue with that. But that’s not convenient for you is it? Who cares then, right? I bet you’re in a union too. A bunch of independent thought going on there. Am I wrong?

O’Mexico owner is a big player in the tea party movement. Emmer got one of his friends to give him a publicity stunt.

I hope this guy just croaks one night so I never have to look at his pathetic face again in public office. come step into small town restaurants and bars across the rest of Minnesota and see how much they make…..just another rich politician with too much money. Where is it you get your Campaign DOLLARS from Mr Emmers? Well I want you to know you aren’t getting a PENNY of mine. I hope you never get elected for anything again in your life.

Love ya!

Just be gay Mr. Emmers!

^^^Happiness is the Key to enjoying life. Just don’t take from those workers that don’t even make close to that so to fill your greedy hands^^^
