Bachmann ‘freezes’ Navy Vets donation amid fraud accusations
Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 8:36 am
The Pioneer Press reports that the campaign of Rep. Michele Bachmann is freezing funds donated by Bobby Thompson, the founder of the United States Navy Veterans Association, a group that’s under investigation in a half dozen states. Authorities believe that Thompson may have funneled donations intended for veterans to Republican candidates around the country.
“We will be freezing the money pending the results of the investigations,” Bachmann’s campaign manager Gina Countryman told the Pioneer Press. “Congresswoman Bachmann believes people are innocent until proven guilty. However, she wants to ensure her campaign is above reproach and maintains the highest of ethical standards.”
The Minnesota Independent asked Countryman last week what Bachmann planned to do with the donations, but a request for comment was not returned.
Other candidates and committees have taken money from Thompson including the Republican Party of Minnesota, the Minnesota House Republican Campaign Committee and David Carlson, a Minnesota Senate candidate in Eagan.
None responded to a Minnesota Independent inquiry last week.

So I guess Obama’s off the hook as a terrorist for a while. Whew. I’m glad THAT’s over with.

Come On Michele!! You don’t have a problem taking cash from BP and Exxon.. What’s the matter with taking money from yet another fraudulent entity??

heh. Ironically, the politician who received the most money ever from BP was none other than Barack Obama.
“During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.”

The only way Bachmann could ensure her campaign is above reproach and maintains the highest of ethical standards is to quit running and apologize for all the lies and libels.

Face it, Michele Bachmann won in 2008 when every democrat running for office in Minnesota won, even Stuart Smalley for chrissakes, because of the huge democrat turnout to elect the Messiah.
Those people won’t be showing up this time because the messiah isn’t on the ballot so if anything, Bachmann will win by a larger margin.

Oh, but corporate campaign contributions are “free speech” doncha know? They’re not bribes or anything and they don’t do anything to influence the policy decisions of elected leaders.

So what does freezing the funds mean? We won’t spend the funds so that when the investigations are completed and show the organization is a fraud, they give them back, or donate to a legitimate charity?

So, according to conservatives, the President is both in BP’s pocket and out to it. There’s great brains at work here.

This is an easy keep-it-above-board tactic by a campaign that has raised millions in contributions already. they won’t miss this relative pittance of a contribution. and it avoids what ever slime – if any – that oozes from misuse of charitable contributions to veterans.
But the larger picture is, Michele Bachmann can’t wait to be in the majority so she can tie up government with endless investigations of all the “nonsense” she sees going on. She has announced as much recently.
By contrast, candidate for Mn 6th Rep. Tarryl Clark, will work for Minnesota families if elected, making progress on their concerns and issues. What a refreshing change.
Much rather that than the private partisan vendetta politics without end promised if Michele Bachmann retains the Mn 6th rep. office

So Dennis just because donations are given to politicians on bothsides has no foundation unless you act towards those compaines with favortism. I believe Bachman did just that and in the process insulted the President of the United States. Pure malice and tongue twisting by the typical policitican who has embarrassed the state of Minnesota more then once.
