The following statement was issued by the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department in regards to last nights raid on the RNC Welcoming Committee’s convergence space in downtown St. Paul:
On August 29, 2008 at 9:15 pm the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the St. Paul Police Department, executed a search warrant at 627 Smith Ave So. Numerous items were recovered. No persons were arrested. The search warrant was a part of an ongoing investigation regarding serious criminal acts.
Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher stated, “This investigation pertains to actions of the RNC Welcoming Committee. The “Welcoming Committee” is a criminal enterprise made up of 35 self- described anarchists who are intent on committing criminal acts before and during the Republican National Convention. These acts include tactics to blockade and disable delegate buses, breaching venue security and injuring police officers. They have recruited assistance in their criminal conspiracy from other anarchists groups throughout the country. Through their plans and actions they have exhibited a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others.”

Here in Denver there was much talk by authorities that there were plans to use such items during protests at the DNC. Wether folks planning to protest had such items in the plaes they were staying I can not say one way or another.
HOWEVER, I can say with certainty, since I was a “Legal Observer” at all the major protests here in Denver, that none of the items listed as confiscated by the police in Minneapolis ever came into play during the demonstrations.
What we have here is police charging people and confiscating legal possesions in violation of the constitution. At the very least police should have at least waited untill such items “hit the streets” which may have indicated some sort of intent to actually use the confiscated items. Instead what the police haev done is clearly violated a wide variety of consitutional protections based on speculation and opened up the possiblilty of huge law suits.
2, 4, 6, 8 Minneapolis is a POLICE STATE!

Vague, unprovable assertions on possible criminal behavior that these kids *might* perform. None of that is important, though. The lack of arrests, coupled with the computer, pamphlet, and other intellectual materials confiscation shows this to be harrassment, plain and simple. The operant word is “anarchists”. Anything that challenges the established order is often called “anarchist”, whether it is or not. Using this label as a political blank check to excuse the crime of harrassment is disgusting.
Political anarchism is a valid belief. It does not imply violent revolution. It's basically libertarianism, except that it goes perhaps a step further into “liberty” than a political party that runs for elections could consider without risking absurdity.
I suppose it's good to know that belief in political anarchism is now considered a crime. I suppose this makes me an outlaw, a label I never particularly wanted to wear.
Or is it just associating with other anarchists that constitutes a crime?
DenverRon, I've seen enough police action video from Denver. You Democrats may not be #1 on the fascist scale, but you definitely try harder. And what, you think these poor kids are going to be able to challenge this kind of behavior, using the very legal system that issued those warrants in the first place? How naive… It is for these kinds of issues that these people (and I) *self-describe* themselves “anarchists” in the first place.

Intimidation by Neocon police state, basically harmless actions by men with guns. Bethere on the 1st and join us in protesting the war, the Military Indutrial Complex, and these gestapo tactics themselves; peacefully, and with no intention of caving in to police intimidation.

The Ramsey County Sheriff is the criminal …. raiding citizens homes. Serious criminal acts my ass …. that's all the lying police have to say for an excuse. This is Republican NeoCon anti-Constitutional tactics.
If these organizations were planing disobedience it's because our country is falling into tyranny and a police state is being erected right before our eyes. These are rumblings of the beginnings of what will be an ugly uprising.
As in Iraq where a country is being occupied and enslaved …. our own country is also being occupied and invaded by criminals and elite corporatists who have taken over and who on 911 attacked us and blamed it on terrorists without any evidence.

This isn't about Democrats or Republicans …. this is about power and the corporate banking and oil elite. There were police actions in Denver last week that were just as bad if not worse and this is nothing compared to what is about to happen.
The elite have been grooming the population to accept these actions and the police are being schooled to suspect anyone who even mentions the US Constitution. There are permanent camps being built in the US to house anyone they see as a threat .
These are the real players behind 911. Our rights have been systematically reduced and destroyed. Our privacy and rights to a fair trial are being undermined to make way for absolute tyranny and suppression of the underclass which they have also systematically bankrupted.
THis is war waged in America by the shadow elite and handled by the criminal traitors in the WHite House. They are monitoring our words and movements not because they fear terrorists. They are the terrorists and they attacked us on 911.
What they fear is us. What they are preparing for is total control over us … smashing us completely. This could never have been accomplished if it were not for their actions on 911. Everything goes back to that event. Wake up everybody.

This is an outrage! The fact that corporate media hasn't picked up on this isn't surprising…but I do not take my rights as a citizen as lightly as the St. Paul Police Department! This needs to be on the national spotlight – look at how oppressive the government will become to keep you quiet! We are too scared to protest on the streets, and now we have to be scared of protesting over the Internet? ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Wake up America! This is tyranny!
