According to Coldsnap Legal Collective, an organization that has been providing legal assistance to protesters who will be at the Republican National Convention, there is a raid in progress at 951 Iglehart Avenue in St. Paul, where about 20 cops are waiting for a warrant to enter a house reportedly occupied by half a dozen or so videographers planning to document what happens in the streets at RNC.
This brings to at least five the number of preemptive raids by a joint force from the MPD and Ramsey County Sheriff’s office on local protesters and/or videographers in the past 24 hours.
The other four, with links to MnIndy’s coverage from earlier today: 2301 23rd Avenue South in Minneapolis; 3240 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis; the “convergence space” on Smith Avenue in St. Paul; and 3500 Harriet Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Does anyone else think that maybe the reason for these raids, this ridiculous turn-around-on-a-dime-into-thousands-of-other-protestors-walking-the-other-direction protest march route, and the generally paranoid cloud that has descended on the Twin Cities… does anyone else think that maybe this is all to ensure that a riot does happen. This will legitimize the “security threats,” the millions of wasted government dollars, and the candidate to boot… frankly the pieces seem to be falling just right for a massive anti-free speech media blitz, to which I hardly look forward.

In honor of the Republican Convention, did someone repeal the 1st Amendment? I thought not. So are Minneapolis and St. Paul, and Ramsey County, prepared to ante up the millions of dollars that they will undoubtedly have to pay, in due course, for these constitutional violations and false arrests? Ah, I thought not.

Oh my Toto….
It is amazing that the RNC GOP Stormtroopers, the local County Mounty Sheriff and the Bush Good Old DHS Boys CAN FIND find a bunch of potentially LAWFUL RNC protestors and vidiographers in 60 seconds flat but this same GANG of reTHUGlicans are UNABLE to locate the criminal Osama bin Laden in 6 YEARS.

It would appear from the thoroughness of these raid, the Cheney people that done several things; (1) placed moles in these groups to keep tabs on people they believe are a danger to the administation, (2) did face recognition at previous protests and matched faces at the airports, train and bus stations, and last kept long term survalence on some of these folks.

To Yo Daddy and Minn Man…
You two are just jack booted fascist brown shirts and do not deserve the freedoms that this country has to offer, if you are so willing to wipe your ass with the constitution, Who made you Judge Jury and Executioner? So in your little statements there, you would be perfectly happy with a government like China. Why don't you go live there, rather than trying to make America in China's image? I am pretty sure you are supporting China by buying cheap shit at stores like Wal-Mart. Your words speak volumes of how un-American your world view is.
They are breaking down down the doors of Indy-reporters, supressing stories about the protests. Very Nazi, very Stalin-istic, very China-like. Just because they are telling a story that you do not want to hear, does not mean that they deserve to be shot in the face for it. Is that what you would have done to the participants in the Boston Tea Party?
