State Sen. Michele Bachmann (R-Stillwater) holds a very narrow lead over Democratic activist Patty Wetterling, according to a new Majority Watch poll.

Bachmann holds a lead of only 1%, taking 48% of the vote in the poll.  Wetterling receives 47%.  The sixth district is one of only two seats in the country rated by Majority Watch as “tied,” and not leaning toward either candidate.  The poll shows a narrowing of the race from one taken earlier in the month at the height of the Mark Foley scandal.  In that poll, Wetterling led Bachmann, 49% to 46%.  However, the shift in polling is within the margin of error and may not be statistically meaningful.

In August, Bachmann held a 53% to 42% lead.

This race, like the race in the first congressional district, will likely come down to turnout on election day.  Both candidates are well within striking distance of victory, and the next week will tell the tale.

The poll was conducted October 24 through 26, surveying 1,056 likely voters.  The poll has a margin of error of 3.01%.
