MnIndy Video: Lawyers seek injunction to stop detentions of journalists at RNC events

The National Lawyers Guild and Communities United Against Police Brutality (CUAPB) filed an emergency motion late Saturday asking judge Mark Wernick to grant “injunctive relief to prevent police from seizing video equipment and cellular phones used to document their conduct.” The groups contend that police are illegally detaining journalists and confiscating equipment.

Strongarm police tactics are the sign of a weak political position… they think they're promoting order, but they're actually promoting dissidence. This “egregious form of conduct” (as the woman at the end of the video so eloquently put it) is par for the course in cities like St. Paul, Denver, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, Detroit, and others… it's just plain wrong. And we have the Bush legacy to thank for it.
By defending the rights of others, we defend our own future rights. This is the only right thing left.
