Minnesota’s Future, a relatively new independent expenditure committee run by Republican activist Jeff Larson, released a television ad targeting DFL candidate for governor Mark Dayton on Thursday. Titled “Worst,” the ad focuses on Dayton’s record in the U.S. Senate and criticizes his plan to raise taxes on the top 10 percent of earners. Dayton’s campaign reacted immediately, calling the ad “lies.” The ad buy, according to Minnesota Public Radio: $686,490.

Dayton’s communication director Katherine Tinucci released this statement:

“This is just lies, lies and more lies from people who won’t identify themselves. Mark has made it absolutely clear that his plan to close Minnesota’s budget hole and to invest in education will raise taxes only on the richest Minnesotans. This attack is especially ironic since it’s Mark’s plan that will prevent property tax increases. And Mark promised in 2003 to vote against any email tax in the U.S. Senate and has never suggested it in this campaign. Mark is determined to put an end to the middle class carrying the tax burden in Minnesota–it’s time everyone paid their fair share.”

No! No! No!

This ad is NOT by “Minnesota Future”, the 527 group registered with the IRS this month by Jeff Larson of FLS Connect, the infamous benefactor of Norm Coleman’s cut-rate Washington apartment.

As the disclaimer clearly states at the end, it is by “Minnesota’s Future” of Circle Pines, MN, a group that GOP activist Chris Tiedeman and former Bachmann campaign treasurer Joe Kroogsma registered with the MN Campaign Finance Board back in 2007 (hardly “relatively new”!) Go to http://www.minnesotasfuture.com for more info on this group, which thus far appears to have no connection with Jeff Larson.

The obvious similarity of names does not excuse the fact that at least three blogs have gotten them mixed up! Mind the details, like that pesky apostrophe ‘s’ in the ad’s disclaimer! (One blog even initially credited the ad to MN Forward, the pro-Emmer group funded by the controversial contributions from Target, Best Buy, and others…!)

Makes me wonder if Jeff Larson’s choice of names for his 527 group was an intentional effort to cloud the issue, because if it was, it seems to have worked beautifully!

Just great – AFTER I post my comment, you change the heading and article from “Minnesota Future” to “Minnesota’s Future”, without any indication of a correction or update – making my comment look stupid! But you still haven’t shown where the connection is between Jeff Larson and the “Minnesota’s Future” group of Circle Pines, MN!

And BTW: “Minnesota’s Future” is not “relatively new”, having been registered with the MN Campaign Finance Board in 2007.
