Parents Action League shuts down website, cites intolerance

The Parents Action League, a group of Anoka-Hennepin School District parents opposed to LGBT safety programs in district schools, shut down its website on Friday following a report by the Minnesota Independent. The group’s organizing has occurred against a grim backdrop: three suicides by district LGBT students in the past year.

The group took down all information on its website on Friday and posted the message:

This site is under construction until further notice.

We have never been inundated with so much hate and disdain for a differing viewpoint than that of the pro-gay movement. Our group has NEVER written anything hateful on our site or to any member of the GET [Gay Equity Team] group with whom we strongly disagree. Apparently, tolerance, kindness and decency are only to be extended to the pro-gay viewpoint – talk about your bullying!

PAL had previously said on its website that it advocates for reparative therapy for homosexuals and supported efforts by Exodus International to bring the Day of Truth to schools in the district. The Day of Truth teaches Christian students to be outspoken about homosexuality as a sin. It also strongly advocated for the “neutrality policy,” a school district measure that prevents teachers from discussing sexual orientation and which advocates say ties the hands of school staff when addressing anti-gay bullying.

Would that due to their own intolerance?

Sorry, that last comment should have said “Would that be due to their own intolerance?”

Talk about preaching tolerance, kindness and decency unless you are gay!

UFF DA!

Wow, aside from the fact that their entire website and mission was hate-based, their argument is weak.

Glad the site is down. Hopefully they realize the error of their ways and stop the organization.

One must be intolerant of intolerance in any form. Three LGBT youth suicides is three too many.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among young people, and LGBTQ youth are 4-times more likely to attempt or complete suicide than their straight peers. If you want to prevent suicides in your school and community, you absolutely must address the needs of LGBTQ youth.

I’m with Curt on this one. Shutting down a website is nothing compared to shutting down a teenager’s life.

Oh please. The “intolerance” they were faced with = disagreement and rebuttals. The intolerance they foster and defend led to three dead kids. Not exactly a moral equivalence there.

They shut down the web site because they got hate mail? Right.

Why should they be the victims of intolerance merely for trying to screw up other people’s lives?

Whiners. Nobody likes to be told that they are to homosexuality what the KKK is to race. The truth hurts, haters.

You can tell how honorable their position is by their secrecy. It’s the online equivalent of a pointy white hood.

The audacity. This victim pose is typical of right-wing reactionary haters. The blood of Justin Aaberg and the thousands before him who decided it would be easier to die than to endure your intolerance is on your hands. Shame on you.

The persecution and victim complex of the Christian Taliban is truly astounding. They think anything is covered by religious freedom. They think they can get away with anything, up to hate speech and incitement of violence. And when they don’t get their way, they play victim.

“They don’t want to allow our kids the freedom to attack and bully other kids to death … you can’t even comprehend the intolerance against US” – Parents Action League

A key point in this conversation is that Parents Action League put up the site anonymously. Try to find any information about an individual associated with PAL (unfortunate acronym). They advocated a message of hate, but weren’t willing to put their names on that message. That is cowardice of the worst kind.

What nasty people. Of course, I discovered their site was gone because I went over there to give them a piece of my mind.

Maybe they didn’t like being murderers, or accessories to murder – since allowing kids to kill themselves for being different is pretty much enabling murder to happen.

I feel so bad for those kids, their friends, and their families.

I’ll put my name on it.

I don’t think anybody should be bullied or harassed. However, I am the subject of a lot of harassment. So for all you pansies out there, get over yourself and take it GLBT.

I would not want my children in contact with any GLBTs. I think in Cali they have schools for those kids. That is way the way to go. Group them together. Let them grow up and be strong, but don’t let them affect the reproducing portion of the population.

It’s just not a very useful trait. Nature selects the strongest. I don’t want my children to be affected by those with weak traits.

Love is one of the strongest traits. So I know how important it is to accept GLBTs. However, can they please accept me too, and the fact that I don’t want to be around them, and I don’t want my children to be around the either?

Many of you will ask if I am afraid of my children becoming GLBTs because they are in contact with GLBTs. Yes, that is true. Children copy things easily. For example, if my child’s friend is always whining to his parents, my child comes home and whines to me. It’s not happening. My children can request anything they like in a positive polite tone. The problem with sexuality, is that it happens in private, where it should. As parents, we have very little control over that. I’m not the parent who will not teach and guide my children. When they’ve grown, they are on their own. There is only a small window of opportunity to set them on the right path. That’s definitely not homosexual.

If they end up homosexual, a criminal, a sex worker, etc., that’s too bad. Though, I want to know that I did my best to help them be successful in this life.

Must I carry on? Yes, homosexuals are for the most part not successful in this life if even because the majority of humanity is heterosexual. The stats other have stated about teenage suicide only prove my point.

Thank you for listening to a different opinion. And no I don’t live in the US of A.

I wonder if PAL realized that a recent court case that affirmed names must be made public on petitions or moves to bring an item to public vote, may have applied to these folks if they decide to move forward with submitting a petition to the school board. If you truly believe in something and I mean TRULY believe something, you should say so publicly. Otherwise, you are a coward and who really cares what a coward thinks?

@Simon (non US resident)

1. you do not live in the US. This does not concern you.
2. no one gives any credibility to your hate filled, spiteful comment.
3. you raise your kid any way you wish. If you want them to be ignorant of gays then so be it. It may very well your child committing suicide next. I pray not.
4. Are you a liar? You said you don’t believe anyone should be bullied, then called us “pansies” which is bullying.
5. Science lesson 101 for Simon- Gays can reproduce same as you. (clutching pearls!)
6. Gay kids that endure hardship of bullies are stronger than your weak kids that you shelter from learning life’s experiences.
7. Simon is a wolf in sheep clothing. You cannot claim to love while you are spewing hate. Your own words crucify you.
8. Lesson 102 for Simon- Kids do not ‘learn’ to be gay. They are born that way.
9. Lesson 103 for Simon- homosexuals are no less successful that heterosexuals. Matter of fact, studies show that non-biological parents that are gay make better foster parents that straight non-biological parents. (gasp!)
10. Since you do not live in the US you must live in one of the evil axis countries that want to execute gays. Uganda? Iran? Korea? Red China? Syria?

Notice I put my real name on this comment? I also live in the US, I am gay and I am a parent with a very intelligent, happy, well adjusted honor roll kid. He makes more money than any other kid his age in this area. And he is straight and LOVES his fathers… BOTH of them!

God Bless You and your family Simon. You are going to need it.

WOW!!! And PAL is “wondering” why there was so much villification and hate directed towars them??? I am surprised the GLBT people and their supporters didn’t hunt them down and preach their own hate and vitriol back to them. People today will not put up with this American christian Taliban approach any longer… the times and social mores have changed dramatically, and the old genie will no longer return to the bottle!!! Get used to it, PAL! You are vastly outnumbered now and that number will only grow!
Blessings! Peace!!

Simon, gay’s are actually on average much more successful than straight individuals.

Parent’s Association: Perhaps the reason that you got so much hate was because you are like murderers.

P.S. I’m straight.

Simon

The numbers and studies show that Gay parents can be BETTER at parenting. They are often parents through adoption. Through that process, they are tested, looked at, and evaluated for financial and mental stability. One that a straight person never has to do. Through the course of being present and purposeful parenting is what makes a good parent. Giving the opportunities and equal rights and social justice to all is what makes a country strong and morally strong.

Science and the medical world has proven that it is a born trait not something that is “learned”. This biological trait is no different than being white black, or with green or brown eyes. It is a biological trait. And like any other trait there is a spectrum. Open a science book, read, learn.

As for not allowing your children to be around other glbt people, sorry they are there, here and everywhere. They are fathers, mothers, sisters and daughters.

I am Straight, I have no gay person in my family at this particular time. I am a mom, of two. I live a conservative life. I stay home with my children. I am married and have been married for a couple of decades now. I waited for many years after marriage to have children. We do not have tons of financial wealth but we have a strong bond.

I feel pity for you and your children.

They shut the site down because a member of the organization harrassed a young gay kid into committing suicide telling him he was going to hell.

What’s funny is that the Bible only says “gays will not inherit the Kingdom of God” in the same sentence that it says “gluttons” (fat people) will not inherit the Kingdom of God

Which means that 60-70% of the evangelical churchgoing population are as bad as gays in God’s eyes, according to the Bible anyway – but since when do Evil-gelicals read the Bible? They always have to have an atheist point the facts out to them, since they’re usually to busy beating it to child porn to be bothered with trivialities such as Bible reading – that’s where atheists have to come in.

BTW, notice how these guys espouse hate as a hobby, then whine like girly men when they get a taste of their own crap. Reminds me somewhat of Nazi Germany – because if you read Mein Kampf, you’ll notice that Hitler thought he was the one who was persecuted.
