CNN: Bachmann favors news outlets that ‘transmit her views without question’

CNN’s profile of Rep. Michele Bachmann hit familiar notes: Bachmann’s claim that God told her to run for office, her entree into politics via a school board run, her family taking in nearly two dozen foster children. But the report’s recurring theme was that the Sixth Congressional District Republican favors news outlets that “won’t challenge what she has to say.”
Tracking Bachmann through the Minnesota State Fair, CNN’s Gary Tuchman interviews Democratic challenger Tarryl Clark, but has a hard time getting face-time with Bachmann.
“She says God called her to run for Congress, so rushing to the media outlets that transmit her views without question is a priority, but for members of the press who might have some harder questions? Different treatment — because Bachmann thinks some in the media are out to get her,” says Tuchman.
“Speed-walking in heels through political mud,” Bachmann is shown rushing between interviews with conservative media including KTLK’s Jason Lewis, Christian radio station KKMS and The Patriot.
CNN is shooed away by Bachmann’s handlers, but later she agrees to an interview, but only two questions. Clark gets some airtime, but the clip amounts to merely an introduction — plus a mention that, according to the Clark campaign’s internal poll numbers, she trails Bachmann by only a single-digit margin. [Update: MPR's Annie Baxter asked Clark's campaign about this survey; they said it was a July SurveyUSA poll, which showed Bachmann leading by nine points.]
“Before the day ends, she’ll do more interviews with those she trusts — people who won’t challenge what she has to say,” Tuchman says of Bachmann. “For Michele Bachmann, this is a righteous cause.”

Normally I’d point out how sad this dingbat is, but I think she did it all by herself.

I wonder if Clark would go on the Jason Lewis show. Actually, no I don’t.

Good question. I wonder if she’s been invited.

When a Democrat does it, it’s “censorship.” When a Republican does it, it’s “What do you think the Democrats would do?”

Michele Bachmann does not appear to respect, or perhaps even grasp, the role of the free press as an agent of democracy.
She is quite comfortable in the womb of conservative propaganda and clearly feels no need to acknowledge the world that challenges her perception of reality.
There is nothing more dangerous to society than a religious zealot, no greater threat to democracy than theocracy.

Geez I wonder what would make Michele think the media was out to get her. Surely it couldn’t be websites like this one.
Great point Dennis!
If the lawn signs in the 6th district are any indicator Clark doesn’t stand a chance.

When I was in the DFL pavilion at the state fair, I did get asked about the beer taxes by someone who found it troubling, but asked in such a way as he knew it made no s ens e and he felt dumb asking, but he couldn’t help it. I responded by saying Clark did impose a state fair beer tax, but only for teetotalers. That got a laugh, but more important, I let the questioner determine for himself in a way in which he could still feel intelligent that Bachmann’s charge was false. My point is that not only do DFLers need to diffuse Bachmann’s nonsense, but we can.

She doesn’t want any questions because she doesn’t know any answers. Why is “the press” out to “get” her? Because she is a clown? Why do people vote for an ignorant clown?

I don’t know how independent this newspaper is when they have a Michelle Bachmann ad on top. The racist, extreme right evil person.
