Poll: One in five Americans thinks defunct ACORN will steal next election

Public Policy Polling has proven, once again, that one in five Americans will signal their belief for just about anything. The group’s poll today notes that 20% of Americans think that ACORN will steal the election for Democrats, and 40% aren’t sure. (The other 40% are pretty sure this won’t be the case). All this, despite that fact that ACORN is now a defunct organization.

But this is not simply a laughing matter, notes Dave Weigel at Slate:

More seriously, we’re about to go into the first election since 2004 where the Democrats won’t do very well. It is also the first election since the 1970s when ACORN won’t really exist. In 2004, 2006 and 2008, when things were either touch-and-go or terrible for Republicans, voters read lots of election-time stories about an organization called ACORN that was filing lots of bogus voter registrations. This year, Republicans will win, and I bet the myth of ACORN only grows — that a stubborn number of Americans will think that Democrats only won the 2006 and 2008 elections because of fraud, and that James O’Keefe saved us from it.

Soooo, we’re supposed to believe that all those ACORN thugs were let go and they all went out and got real jobs? Not buyin’ it.

Here’s what they do: After registering thousands of bogus voters, they take busloads of people to polling places where they are simply asked by the voting judges to give their name. No identification is required. After voting at that polling place, they then take the same people to another polling place to do the same thing.

During the 2008 election, some inner city districts in Philadelphia claimed turnout equal to the entire adult population of the district, and at least one in Detroit claimed over 100% turnout. During the Franken-Coleman recount, at least one democrat-leaning district submitted more votes than they had residents.

Barack Obama was a key player in ACORN in Chicago. He trained its local leaders, represented the organization in court, and worked to funnel funds to the organization. The 2008 Obama campaign also donated $800,000 to an ACORN affiliate. If anyone thinks they’ve been defunded you don’t know how the Left works in this country.

Right, Dennis. And don’t forget the dead people. You’d think Jesus is a democrook the way the dearly departed vote. Of course Jesus doesn’t like killing babies, so we know that’s not true.

“Soooo, we’re supposed to believe that all those ACORN thugs were let go and they all went out and got real jobs? Not buyin”

Look it’s the “1 in 5 ” themselves!

“During the Franken-Coleman recount, at least one democrat-leaning district submitted more votes than they had residents”

Can you name it? Do you also think the sun orbits the earth and dinosaurs lived in ancient Egypt?

“the 2008 Obama campaign also donated $800,000 to an ACORN affiliate. If anyone thinks they’ve been defunded you don’t know how the Left works in this country.”

I understand that non-existent organizations don’t exist. I understand that the right operates on the principle of the “Big lie” and that all the crap you’ve written is utterly insane. Facts won’t get in your way though!

Dennis and Jimmy: You are mind-bogglingly stupid.

What troubles me, Gary, about commenters like Dennis and Jimmy, is not that they are stupid, since I don’t think they are. I think they are quite smart and are quite full of themselves about it. They think they are smarter than you or me or many of the millions of other people who are clueless about what is going on in this country.

What’s really troubling is that they have hardened their hearts to the tremendous good that ACORN has done for poor and homeless people, even making us aware of the problem. They have hardened their hearts against the homeless and the poor and unfortunate. Many homeless are mentally ill people or poor unfortunates who’ve taken a kick in the teeth from the world. Dennis and Jimmy are people who got theirs and cannot see what they owe to the grace of God. For them, mocking and bearing false witness against groups like ACORN is a socially acceptable way of mocking the poor, homeless and mentally ill and gloating about their own good fortune.
