They said they tought their son to respect the law, yet he was going against authority, and there was violence from other people there the cops don't know who is good and who is bad these parents did a lousy job, and this kid should have used common sense and just wrote letters or some other form of protest if he wanted to get his point out.

People are ignorant if they think just because someone is protesting that gives them the right to break the law, and trying to make the cops the bad guys for doing their jobs. Not all the cops are bad guys just because a few beat this kid down, those cops should be punished but he also shouldn't have even been there, again poor parenting letting your kid go to something that could be dangerous.

I have come to the conclusion that we as a nation are a mini-police state. To be a cop is almost a license to violate someone's rights and even engage in wanton violence. When I look at protests such as at Pittsburgh, I am reminded very much of the police violence against protestors in, Tehran, Iran.

Really people. He was an ordinary kid. keep fighting do what you can.
my brother was involved of all of this.
he is the most kind hearted kid there is.
yet, the police found it important to charge him with felony riot.
all because he had a lucky crystal in his pocket that the police accused him of "carrying a stone that could indeed break a window"
yeah right.

Comical... Robbins Kaplan Miller and Ciresi I'd be real surprised if these clowns even sniffed at this. These lawyers aren't interested in some 17 y/o punks sob story... There's no money in it. They are trial lawyers Krissy... Now if they could file a class action suit maybe, but that won't happen because it would be against the government, the very hand that feeds them indirectly when they sue large corporations and common sense is ignored. In case you didn't know it, scumbag Ciresi is one of the richest Minnesotans. His wealth came primarily from the award in the tobacco case.
You also need to re-read the Contstitution. It has little to do with your comments or the sad sack punk.

Ms. Smith-Tourville,

Take your photos and your hospital report and your statement of the event and your son's statement and all the other evidence you can gather (does your son have the "remember 9/11" t-shirt? Bring it, blood stains and all--as if the Iraq debacle had anything to do with Osama bin Laden and 9/11....) and contact the law firm, Robbins Kaplan Miller and Ciresi in downtown Minneapolis. They are the best at exposing and fighting grave injustice. What happened to your son is outrageous and a disgrace to the Republic, the Constitution and the Founders of this great nation. The barking dogs who have criticized you above sing a different tune quick when police decide to kick their teeth in.

Good luck. Keep fighting. We don't need another McCarthy era. Funny how many people forget that the Patriots were the rebels fighting British oppression. The Patriots were not toadies to the oppression but heroes who resisted it. Praising those who act like the very British we rose up to defeat is so un-American--and ironic...the mark of a population that doesn't know and doesn't care what justice and reason are.

Maybe keeping your juvenile son home instead of allowing him to participate in mob action would be a start. Except you're just as much a pacifist as the punk is. Too bad no-ones really spoke out on what it was like on the other side. A lot of the cops were pretty fearful of what could happen, thus the heavy handed tactics. So when you have groups of people and asshole organizations such as MoveOn and the RNC welcoming committee recruiting people to come to St.Paul and start destroying public and private property, the cops are gonna be on edge. Protestors making shields out of metal and driving sprikes through them. Gee, wonder what that's for. Each and every one of those assholes just needs the living piss kicked out of them. Hey Mom, did you tell sonny to peacefully march? Probably not. And of course here's a picture of little Johnny (and either a truant or dropout) sitting in the middle of the street. What an absolute joke.

To all of you wondering if he had been doing anything to incite the police abuse...

No... incredibly unlikely. I was with the group that he was in for most of Monday... I remember multiple occasions when I saw him peacefully, quietly standing near the line of riot police. At times he would shake the bells in his hand... as other people had instruments or ways to make music, part of our attempts to reclaim the streets.

While you might say he looks like a punk, you might say he had been with the 'anarchists' prior to his arrest, and you might even say he was stupid for protesting, I respectfully, whole-heartedly disagree. He was one of those human beings that you distinctly remember... for his gentleness, for his good intentions, for his lack of fear. This was a boy--17 years-old!!!--who was not afraid of the police. He is an example of Nonviolence, and of a sort of Direct Action... even though he was not intended to get arrested, but merely targeted.

While I cannot speak for him, I will defend his actions--or his lack of action--where he quietly stood by the police, indicating that he was not afraid of the pepper-spray or tear gas or batons, and he had come to St. Paul to protest an unwarranted occupation of Iraq. He was not protesting by breaking windows or yelling. He was willing to sacrifice his own health and well-being, and risk arrest, to make a quiet, yet bold statement.

So for all you who post attacks on internet message boards after having spent no time organizing or taking a stand on the streets, I ask you:
If that is not standing up for what you believe in, and that is not a respectable act of non-violent self sacrifice, then what is?

Pro-cop scum who enjoy uniformed filth beating the shit out of unarmed people...nice. That's what I've come to expect from this USA ratfucker land, full of "law and order" filth who think treating their "own" people like Iraqis is acceptable. Show these badass pigs that even the toughest scumbags sometimes get raped, tortured and shot. You think their bosses will give a damn? Hell no. The government hates its own cops just as much as it hates anyone else. Cops are chumps.
