In a 240-172 vote, the House passed yesterday a bill that would give Americans who live in rural areas loans to make their homes more energy efficient.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in a statement on the bill, said:

By passing the Rural Energy Savings Program Act, we are supporting local workers and strengthening demand for products made in America – such as insulation and windows – because when we ‘make it in America,’ we create jobs and lead the world economy.

According to Pelosi’s office, the bill would create 40,000 construction, manufacturing and retail jobs a year.

Do these out-of-touch politicians really think that in this economy, rural people are interested in getting a loan to weatherize their homes?

Pelosi is like a teenager that took the parents’ credit card and knows it will be cancelled soon.

Dennis,

You didn’t actually make an argument. What is your specific disagreement with this plan? Have you looked at the bill? Do you know the statistics on the needs and desires of rural people?

Or, as is easy to surmise, do you just like making comments about things you know nothing about?

If you weren’t on a site with “Minnesota” in title, your question would make me think you had no conception of the cost of heating in a cold state. Yes, I bet a lot of rural people with high heat bills will like help weatherizing their homes. Are you afraid they’ll think the Democrats and the government aren’t so bad?

You rubes are missing the point. This actually passes for a “jobs bill” in Nancy Pelosi’s adled brain.

Thousands of people have been dreaming of installing new insulation for their rural home and now thanks to the federal government, they can BORROW the money needed to do so. Because, of course, they couldn’t borrow money before for this vital home improvement project. But now they can. Why, we don’t know.

Pelosi’s going to be out of power in a few months so she’s gone on a spending spree like all government people do at the end of the year, buying stupid stuff just because if they don’t the opportunity will pass. It’s a cultural thing common to democrats and bureaucrats, if I’m not being redundant.

Dennis,

So, you haven’t answered the question yet: is this bill fulfilling any need? Yes or no? And aside from your gut reaction to this bill, what specifically don’t you like about it? You seem to be a card carrying member of the don’t-need-any-evidence for my beliefs crowd.
