Attorney General Mike Hatch has seen his lead over incumbent Gov. Tim Pawlenty narrow, according to a Star Tribune Minnesota Tracking Poll.

Hatch, a Democrat, leads Republican Pawlenty by 2%, 42% to 40%.  Other candidates receive 10% of the vote, and 8% of voters are undecided.  Hatch’s lead is within the poll’s margin of error of 3.7%.The narrowing lead for Hatch comes on the heels of the most trying days of the campaign, with the Hatch campaign dealing with gaffes from both candidates on the ticket.

Hatch’s lead is down from 5% in the previous Minnesota poll.

The tracking poll was conducted Saturday and Sunday, and surveyed 740 likely voters.
