Buesgens arrested on suspected drunk driving

Rep. Mark Buesgens was arrested on Saturday night on suspicion of drunk driving and for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Buesgens was chair of Tom Emmer’s campaign for governor and was formerly his campaign manager. According to the Star Tribune, Buesgens left the campaign chair position last week. Emmer has dodged criticism by the DFL and left-leaning groups over a pair of decades-old DWIs, and his son has also become a target because of an underage drinking violation while he was working for the Emmer campaign.
WCCO reports that Buesgens was stopped after driving into a ditch. A field sobriety test led to suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and he was arrested. Officers found open liquor in Buesgens’ vehicle. Buesgens’ blood alcohol registered at a 0.16.

I wonder if he could be taking the rap for “Repeat Emmer”, who possibly didn’t want to become “Three-peat Emmer” and left the car? Maybe, maybe not, I’m sure the police will check all possibilities. Maybe “Repeat” has a good solid alibi, you know what they say, if you don’t have an alibi, you haven’t tried hard enough. It may be that Rep. Buesgens was really all alone in the car, well alone except for an open bottle of liquor. All we know for sure is that we can chalk up another victory for God and family values after this incident.

What if he wasn’t really alone in the car and he and Emmer were out for a bit of alcohol-fueled, Larry Craig style “personal” time.

Now, now it was a Republican so we have to give him a break. After all it is only the little people and Democrats who have to suffer from the public outrage these kind of things bring. Mark just needs to find Jesus again and all will be forgiven.

The tragedy is in the lack of surprise.
Drive economy into ditch.
Drive car into ditch.
Expect keys back immediately.
Now…where did he leave that personal responsibility?

Now, now, at this point in time there is no evidence that Emmer was in the car, past DWIs, an underage drinking son and an ex campaign manager obviously drunk does point to an abnorally cassual attitude toward alcohol abuse, poor parenting skills and bad choices in friends, and campaign staff, but at this juncture we must accept Emmer’s statement that he wasn’t in the car.
Its the same with the implication that the two may have gay leanings, yes its true that many many people who a viemently anti-gay, do later turn out to be gay, and yes Emmer is extremely anti-gay, but right now there is no evidence, beyond his extreme anti-gayness, that he is gay. At this time I, for one, am willing to accept Emmer’s denial of his gayness.

“Family values” (snickers). I love the fact that just before I heard about this on the news, there was an Emmer campaign ad talking about “family values” and why we must not allow gays to marry. LOL
