Video: Archbishop Neinstedt says people should vote on gay marriage
Monday, September 27, 2010 at 9:30 am
In a video accompanying Minnesota bishops’ anti-gay marriage campaign, Archbishop John Neinstedt says that “the time has come for the voters to be presented directly with an amendment to our state constitution.” The bishop’s video will be distributed to more than a million Minnesota Catholics in the coming weeks along with a DVD produced by the Knights of Columbus. Just in time for the November elections, the DVD distribution coincides with a similar ad campaign paid for by the National Organization for Marriage and the Minnesota Family Council.
“So called same-sex marriage would certainly be a declaration by the government that we have abandoned the idea that children need a mom and a dad,” said Neinstedt. “A question as important as the future of this great social institution should not be decided by a ruling elite. ”
Here are Neinstedt’s full remarks:

“So called same-sex marriage would certainly be a declaration by the government that we have abandoned the idea that children need a mom and a dad.”
This is only true if the sole purpose of marriage is to raise children, which many people believe it is not.

So much for proposing rather than imposing Archbishop Neinstedt. . . You’d like to see a vote (where the majority gets to quash out any minorities) because you’re betting that your side will win. If you really want “people themselves” to make this decision then let each person make their own decision. A ruling majority is just as oppressive as a ruling elite.

Perhaps we should vote on whether the Catholic Church should retain its tax-exempt status while pushing an obviously political agenda.

If this isn’t a political message, I don’t know what is since Neinstedt makes mention of this being an issue for “every Minnesotan” at least a couple of times.
I’m really hoping people contact every member of the MN House and Senate and scream to high heaven the Catholic Church needs their 501 c 3 status revoked. It’s pretty easy to do since all the email addresses of both House and Senate are conveniently listed in nice, easy to use tables on the State’s website. If nothing else, it will show them a whole bunch of folks take the separation of church and state seriously.
I wonder how Neinstedt would explain snails? Most of them are hermaphrodites.

If the majority got to decide whether the minority gets rights, Protestants still might not allow Catholic churches.

Of the three major party candidates for governor, only Emmer has declared himself in favorof denying gay and lesbian people the right to marriage. Of the minor party candidates, I am not aware of any taking an anti-gay marriage position.
If Emmer is the only candidate that meets the voting requirements as the archbishop instructs Minnesota Catholics, it appears the archbishop has tacitly endorsed a candidate. This is clear violation of the terms of the archdiocese 501 (c) 3. There needs to be a public investigation as to whether the archdiocese has overstepped its boundaries, with appropriate tax penalties is this is the case.

Catholics were hoping for a “Good-shepherd,” instead they got a German Shepherd. What a hate-filled man he is! Pathetic…

As Archbishop John Neinstedt says, same-sex marriage is very dangous and will likely lead to the decline in both civil society and most importantly in a time of recession – economic desaster.
If anyone really wanted to know how gay marriage will hurt the state and the institution of marriage, just look at what happen in the UK.
Once the institution of marriage was opened up to same-sex, the number of marriages dropped considerably because the value of a marriage covenant no longer means anything.
The result in the drop in marriages has drastically increased the number of dysfunctional families, which has caused many children grow up without a mother and/or a father. This has put a tremendous financial burden on the nation, while the children suffer as many studies have shown that the best environment for children is a two parent family with both a father and a mother. The children of this generation will be at a major disadvantage, which will lead to lower education and a lower standard of living.
Maggie Gallagher wrote an entire book about this issue, The Case for Marriage: Why Married People Are Happier, Healthier, and Better Off Financially.

Last week, 10 states filed a gay marriage opposition brief to a federal appeals court in California.
“The amicus brief sent Friday to the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals said that the Constitution does not require marriage to include same-sex couples. The 39-page brief also said that states, not federal courts, have final say in whether to allow same-sex marriages.” And by in large, voters in every state are against same-sex marriage.

The public has become aware of the dangers of same-sex marriage. Archbishop John Neinstedt continues to do a great job in educating the public.

Oh yes!! Good old Maggie!! I believe she and Michele Bachmann share similar DNA and probably crawled out of the same swamp somewhere in the distant past. Just a theory, but it sure makes a whole lot of sense to me. Now Maggie on the other hand has a whole lot of trouble making any sense whatsoever.
Three of her more memorable quotes:
“Public schools when they teach about marriage are going to teach your children and grandchildren that your views about marriage are discarded relics of ancient bigotry.”
“Black American knows better than anyone else the high price children pay for the sexual agendas of adults.”
and probably my fav:
“Gay marriage advocates hope to use the law to reshape the culture in the exactly the same way that the law was used to reshape the culture of the old raciest south.”

In addition to voting on tax exempt status for the Catholic church, and even voting on whether the Catholic church should even be allowed in the U.S. (after all, its a minority faith and is run by secretive foreigners), let’s vote on a couple more things:
-A minimum distance that a Catholic Church must be apart from a school. You know, we work so hard to make sure these kids get born, seems like a sin to let them get molested.
-Require that priests not be allowed to be alone with anyone under the age of 18.
Hey, Archbishop, this voting thing is great fun! Thanks for the idea.

There is a principle that has been articulated in American law: The rights of a minority are not to be put to a majority vote. This principle was first expressed during the African-American Civil Rights struggle, because it became obvious that the White people who held political power would not voluntarily extend the basic rights of civil participation to the African-Americans they held in de facto bondage for decades after the Civil War supposedly ended the question of slavery.
The vicious Christian prelates who own the hearts of the majority who quake in fear of a made-up Hell are confident in their ability to oppress, rape and murder without consequence.

What every child needs is a loving home whether it be a single parent, mother and father, 2 mothers, 2 fathers, foster parents, adoptive parents, grandparents, or other relatives. Who says that children need both parents…that’s just stupid! My son and daughter are being raised by me, a single mother. Their father chose not be involved in their lives and that’s his loss. For me to stay married to a man who doesn’t love his family just because you all think that children need both parents is a load of crap! My kids attend a Catholic school, athletic, well behaved, smart, humble, thoughtful and caring…all being raised by just a mom!

Yes – I also think we should bring it up for vote whether people of different races should be able to marry each other…and everyone should have a say on the issue – and the Catholic Church needs to make a political statement, since there is no separation of church and state. There is a real issue when the majority votes for the rights of the minority. Come on, Nienstedt – you’re an American. Look at history – every time something like this has been done, it’s been wrong. You can start with slavery. Then look at black voting rights. Then look at blacks and whites not being able to be married. I’m sure the list could go on…
