Family Council calls Pat Kessler ‘misleading’
Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 7:38 am
A television ad by the National Organization for Marriage and the Minnesota Family Council (MFC) in support of GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer was called “highly misleading, but it’s not completely false” by WCCO’s Reality Check with Pat Kessler on Tuesday. But the Minnesota Family Council shot back at Kessler on Wednesday calling him “misleading.”
Kessler took issue with the MFC’s assertion that DFLer Mark Dayton and Independence party candidate Tom Horner don’t want voters to vote on gay marriage.
“The ad accurately describes which candidates for governor support gay marriage. But it’s beside the point. The governor has no role,” he said. “When a constitutional amendment is approved by the legislature, it bypasses the governor and goes directly to voters.”
Kessler calls the ad misleading for that reason. Kessler also notes that MFC inappropriately invokes the image of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to support its case, a fact that MFC does not dispute.
But MFC said on Wednesday that Kessler is misleading.
“In fact, the governor play a huge ‘role’ as he/she has the power to veto any bill that would legalize same-sex marriage – and there are five bills to legalize same-sex marriage waiting to be passed in the 2011 session,” the group says.
Here’s MFC’s “fact-check” of Kessler’s fact-check.
But the ad in question doesn’t mention legislative action on same-sex marriage. It only discusses allowing voters to vote on gay marriage and uses the example of Massachusetts which allowed gay marriage through the courts not by action or inaction by then-Gov. Mitt Romney or the Massachusetts Legislature. That Dayton and Horner support gay marriage in general doesn’t have a bearing on whether Minnesotans will vote on the issue. It would appear that Kessler was correct in calling the ad misleading.
Here’s the ad:

@Disgusted America – This ad does not demonize homosexuals. Everyone is individually responsible to God for sinning against him. It would be too easy to blame the demons.
Homosexuality is a condition primarily caused by an unstable family structure and/or sexual abuse. Therefore it is highly unlikely that any of Tom Emmer’s kids would ever get involved in homosexuality and I hope they are never drawn into any type of dangerous sexual lifestyle.
If Tom Emmer’s kids ever get involved in any type of sexual perversion, if will surely reduce their life span and tragically effect their entire life. Every type of sexual perversion results in a loss, personally, financially, emotionally, relationally, mental and physical health. Every statistic and research study confirms what the Lord told us thousands of years ago.
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you.” – Deuteronomy 30:15:16
The promotion of same-sex marriage in MN can only lead in one direction, death and destruction. Families, businesses, governments, churches, education will all be negatively affected.
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness” – Isaiah 5:20
The “fear the Lord” is the beginning of wisdom. God cannot be mocked because His Words are true, regardless of the culture or what we talk ourselves into thinking is true. You cannot change what is true by forming a consensus that disagrees with it.
If Minnesota wants to elect a wise governor, than we should elect someone that realizes Gods Word stands against ours to prove that our ways are completely foolish. Why take a foolish path that leads to destruction, when we have another choice? We need a governor who fears of the Lord more than anything else.

Tim Your comment about the origins of a persons sexual orientation (in this cases gay peoples) is so far removed from the reality of all current research on the subject as to be an out right lie. As is your statement of the chances of one of Tom Emmers children being gay. In fact any of the boys who have older brothers, have a much greater chance of being gay than the older brother. Perhaps you need to learn to use google and then you can see what the scientific community (you know the one’s who do research) believe, as opposed to what some religious people believe.
The rest of your post is your religious beliefs that you have not right to try an impose on others.

Dear Tim,
I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective on homosexuality. I would like to offer you a counter view on life as I know it.
I have been in love with and faithful to the same woman for almost 14 years. I have been with her since I was 23. She was my first, and I intend for her to be my last. I have never been sexually assaulted. My parents divorced when I was young, but I could not have grown up in a more loving and nurturing atmosphere with both parents, my maternal grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins always available to me.
I was raised in the Catholic church. I found myself quite unnerved by the social realities that were oft attacked during sermons; I stopped attending at the age of 16. I had a very hard time reconciling the demonization of some with the loving God that I believed in. How could a God that sent his son to us to die for our sins have all of this hatred and judgment. It took me years to figure out that I was right. God is loving. God is not to be feared but is a guide for us in living our lives.
I don’t steal. I don’t cheat. I give back to the world in ways that I can. I keep an open heart and mind as I believe God wants me to. I try to talk to God everyday. When I don’t, I feel it in my attitude and see it in my actions. Tim, I bet that you and I are not so different. We both believe in a power greater than us. We just perceive our Gods differently.
Tim, I wish you well in life. I hope that you come to know someone that is gay or lesbian on a personal level. Remember that we each have sins to atone for in our lives, but that is between each of us and God, not between you and I. I leave you with a quote from one of my favorite songs: “Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but he is strong.”
In Peace,
C H-C.

Tim – what color is the sun in your world? Can you even see the sun through your blinders?
Comment posted September 30, 2010 @ 2:20 pm
Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don’t choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. If you can, sorry, but you are not heterosexual, you are bi-sexual. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that homosexuality is not a choice. Sexual orientation is generally a biological trait that is determined pre-natally, although there is no one certain thing that explains all of the cases. “Nurture” may have some effect, but for the most part it is biological.
And it should also be noted that:
“It is worth noting that many medical and scientific organizations do believe it is impossible to change a person’s sexual orientation and this is displayed in a statement by American Academy of Pediatrics, American Counseling Association, American Association of School Administrators, American Federation of Teachers, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, American School Health Association, Interfaith Alliance Foundation, National Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Social Workers, and National Education Association.”
Comment posted September 30, 2010 @ 2:20 pm
The National Library of Medicine pubs confirm that sexual orientation is natural, biologically induced in the first trimester of pregnancy, morally neutral, immutable, neither contagious nor learned, bearing no relation to an individuals ability to form deep and lasting relationships, to parent children, to work or to contribute to society.
From the American Psychological Association: homosexuality is normal; homosexual relationships are normal.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Asociation and American Psychiatric Asociation have endorsed civil marriage for same-sex couples because marriage strengthens mental and physical health and longevity of couples, and provides greater legal and financial security for children, parents and seniors.
America’s premier child/mental health associations endorse marriage equality.

This was taken from another poster that shows why we need to legalize gay marriage. If you don’t feel for this person after reading it, you simply aren’t human.
“I am not sure what our President thinks of this dicission but coming from a poor family and knowing what discrimination is all about I would assume he would not care if “Gays” have equal rights. The whole reason why they are asking for rights to be considered married is from the same reason why I would be for it. My own life partner commited suicide in our home with a gun to his heart. After a 28 year union I was deprived to even go his funeral. We had two plots next to each other. But because we did not have a marriage cirtificate “(Legal Document)” of our union his mother had him cremated and his ashes taken back to Missouri where we came from. That is only one example how painful it is. His suicide tramatized me so much and her disregard for my feelings only added to my heartach. That happened on March 21 of 2007 and I still cannot type this without crying for the trauma I have to endure each day. Oh did I mention I am in an electric wheelchair for life? Yes I am and it is very diffacult to find another mate when you are 58 and in a wheelchair. “

Any argument about Civil Rights of American citizens that uses biblical quotes is on its face a false argument. We are talking about the rights of citizens to be married in a civil ceremony for governmental purposes, not about anything covered in a theocracy.
There is no rational nor Constitutional reason to forbid same sex marriage. Deal with it you whited sepulchers.

@Amuseinc – If quotes from the most popular book in the world with the longest historical record in human history are not valid in this discussion, then any quote from anything else would also be of no value. Therefore all research on this subject is invalid and only personal opinion and feeling are relative, which are subject to change on a daily or hourly base. Why would you stake your life on so little?
And if bible quotes are not important, then why do people like shadow_man try so hard to find twisted references to discredit what the scripture clearly states? You are saying that shadow_man is a complete fool.
There are mountains of rational and Constitutional reasons to forbid same-sex marriage. Take for example the book “Secular Sabotage”, which clearly shows how these misguided ideas are destroying the very fabric of America.

Tim
People with your twisted mentality have passed through these pages many times in the past. These arguments have been beaten into the ground so hard that China’s elevation has risen a mile. The reason that shadow_man has referenced the bible is because he knows that you will fall back on miquotations that have been twisted to fit your “morals” of hatred. Also the bible is not the word of god. It is the word of man. The ten commandments could be said to be god’s word but according to the story, Moses destroyed them when he came down from the mountain. Well if they were destroyed after only one person saw them how do we know what the commandments truly were? Just because something is old doesn’t make it truthful. Beowulf is older than the bible you read and we don’t take that story as truth. We will not allow this great country of ours to turn into a theocracy like Iran is. Here people have the freedom to engage in any lifestyle they wish to as long as it doesn’t take away the basic rights of others. If you do not like this, then please, leave this country and never come back.
Comment posted September 30, 2010 @ 5:05 pm
@John – I’m glad you mentioned Iran. You know my argument is a good one when others try to use it. Legalizing same-sex marriage is the beginning of converting our nation into a theocracy like Iran, which does not have religious freedom.
I agree with you, we want to preserve our nation’s freedoms and do not want to start religious persecution by legalizing same-sex marriage.
The problem is that radical homosexual activists don’t want same-sex marriage legalized for the same reason that many peaceful homosexuals do. That is just the story line that they use to gain public support.
The real goal is to criminalize anyone and any organization that does not share their religions convictions about homosexuality. This is the danger because they will destroy the nation in the process and they know it and they don’t care as evidence by the comments on this blog.

Why are we trying to justify whether or not Jesus was against homosexuals or if the Bible Doesn’t condemn them. The Bible condemns the behaviour, not the person. The Scriptures say a person is already condemned unless he surrenders to God through His Son. Any thing that prevents us from being what God has called us to be is to be according to His Word puts us in bondage.
The problem I have is the political side of the Homosexual agenda, if someone doesn’t embrace the Gay lifestyle, they are Homo-phobic and that’s a hate crime- so now what someone thinks becomes a crime. The Bible give man the RIGHT to reject God and not believe, but warns of the consequence. In this country I have the right to what I believe and you have the right to your beliefs. We need to grow up and realize we are free to live according to our world view without oppression.
Mariage is one of the foundations of society, without families having children, there will be no country. Protect traditional marriage for that reason, not because of the ‘Homosexual Sin’ everyone one of us sins and will continue to. I say a gay couple should be able write a legal contract to insure visitation rights, inhertance of property and anything else they want contract for. The tax laws should be changed to protect their legal union. These changes could also protect 2 eldely siblings living together.
The people have the right to decide what is acceptable state by state not a Federal Judge.
The real issue is we all have the right to marry some one of the opposite sex, whether black, white or whatever. if Gay marriage is allowed, then we must to be fair, we must allow polygomy. There is no right to marriage of any kind.
No need to call each other names. Live and Let Live.

Fear.
You fear a God.
You fear period.
Love, happiness, equality and social justice is the key to a peaceful society
Indoctrination is a form of slavery, and the constitution saves us from that. You can worship any God you choose do not make me choose it!

Tim: Ahh, making more statements without evidence i see :) See i’ve proven that homosexuality is not a sin. But i also state that if you want to use the Bible to justify your prejudices, and use it in todays laws, you have to do 2 things:
1) Prove that God exists
2) Prove that it’s the Christian God
Also, from your last post, it is pretty evident you are trying to troll, but let me show you why trolling fails on this subject :)
For those of you that don’t know what a troll is, they basically are posters that take a side on any sensitive topic (religion, sexuality, etc) and post to rile up and anger other posters for their own satisfaction and fun. They usually dance around a central idea while ignoring all evidence (since their primary motive is to incite anger, not prove anything). Other troll behavior includes twisting your words out of context, name-calling, lying, or doing anything that may get a rise out of you.
The best way to own a troll is to get under their skin or ignore them. When a troll realizes he can’t incite anger in people and or get a rise out of them, it irks him. They keep trying, but its fun watching them in desperation as they throw everything at you trying to get any kind of rise. They lose even more, because for each troll, it gives the pro gay marriage side the chance to spread facts and information about homosexuality, to get rid of ignorance. It’s a win/win situation for us.
Remember, trolls can’t win unless they incite anger. Merely getting responses is not a successful troll, since anyone can do that. What makes trolling unique is the ability to incite anger, and without doing that, they become useless. So to all posters here, do prove them wrong with facts, but do not let them incite anger.

The Bible doesn’t condemn homosexuality. Here’s a few links which prove how anti-gay people are taking verses out of context to make it appear like a sin, when it’s really not. The same thing was done to condone slavery and racism in the past as well.

All of the verses typically mentioned, Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans, were not addressing homosexuality, but the common idolatrous practices which involved homosexual sex among many other things.
It would help if you knew what the culture was like back then. In those times, male-male intercourse was a result of idol worship. Back then, it was a common practice of cult priests and priestesses to submit to sexual acts with either gender as part of the worship of their deities. Therefore, such acts were considered sinful and debauchery. It would be the same if it were hetero people involved in cultic sex, prostitution or sexual abuse of minors.
Now I’m pretty sure that two guys engaging in sex these days are NOT idol worshipers. In fact, 99% of the time, it is a physical act of love; just like any hetero couples.

Shadow man is a good name because it fits the description of a false teacher. God says that those that twist scripture to mislead others serve high crimes against God. There crime against God will demand a great punishment.
Also, the existence of false teachers among the radical homosexual activists is evidence that the homosexual lobby has become a cult. A religious cult based on worshiping the created rather than the Creator.
“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord. “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:1-2)
And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame, which shall not be forgotten. (Jeremiah 23:40)
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!” (Matthew 18:6-7)

I’m confused when someone calling him or herself a Christian seems filled with hatred and fear. The good nuns taught us the “Good News” – that’s the meaning of Gospel – Jesus came to teach the replacement of that kind of hate-filled culture. He reached out to those hurting and outcast by his contemporary society. We are warned never to judge, but only do what each one can do to build the kingdom. Tim, I will pray for you and that you can learn to accept all peoples and see the way each of us in made in the Image and Likeness of God. As a citizen of the USA I am thankful I am able to exercise my beliefs and stand for each person having the same right – even if I don’t agree with them, I usually can learn something from them.

To all those who say that being homosexual is a choice, you don’t have a clue. A homosexual has as much choice in the matter as a pedophile or rapist does. It is in their DNA–there is nothing they can do to stop it. Just like God made the homosexual–he made the pedophile, criminal, and the atheist. Although, some people don’t believe that there is a Creator and all life just happened by chance, we should understand that two men having anal intercourse is love, but a man who sleeps with his step-daughter is in the wrong? Just ask Woody Allen. Although no one seems to have a problem with the guy who has three wives (and is courting another [as seen a "Sister Wives]) we can’t seem to get over it if some girl wants to sleep with (and possibly marry) her brother. What’s wrong with us people? And why shouldn’t one judge be able to overule the votes of 8 million people in California? Thank “goodness” for the people on the left who are able to judge Christians and shame them into submission so that one day we can get rid of the stupid archaic “marriage” thing that has been the bedrock of societies for thousand’s of years and replace it with some sort of free-for-all to anyone that wants to get married. And to all of you that are going to say that my idea’s are crazy–you should be more tolerant and understanding because this is either how God made me or how my DNA is programmed. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am off to go bang my brother’s wife! (Judge not!)

Tim and Larold, your god does not trump anyone else’s god, relationship with or without him. The important thing to understand here is, belief doesn’t matter in this instance. No one’s belief, pro or con, matters in the slightest. Those who hate gays can believe it’s a chosen lifestyle all they want, but that doesn’t change the scientific evidence, which increasingly points to genetic factors (the most savvy of our opponents now admit to “a predisposition” toward homosexuality — but they’re quick to compare this “predisposition” to alcoholism (or rapists or pedophiles) and declare that no one really needs to suffer from its effects if they don’t want to). Your beliefs don’t make a thing true, and they’re certainly no basis for public policy. That’s the route the Ku Klux Klan and the Taliban take — they’re convinced their beliefs trump reason or science or the common good, and they dedicate themselves to imposing their personal, subjective worldview on everyone else. This is very specifically what the U.S. Constitution was crafted to prevent.

My American issued birth certificates certifies that I am a human American just like every other human American. My birth certificate that proves my citizenship, and as an American citizen the United States Constitution gives me my rights. As an American citizen my rights must be unconditional and never require the approval, acceptance, agreement, understanding, tolerance, respect or permission of any other American to have the exact same rights you have.
The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in 1972 that religious wedding ceremonies confer no marriage rights. Only the state-issued signed, witnessed and filed marriage license confers the 1138 federal and state rights of marriage. Currently gay and lesbian Americans are supporting the heterosexist married lifestyle while we and our children are denied these rights, because theocRATS believe that their bronze age final Leviticus solution to the homosexual problem bible should be the law in America. Religion is not on my birth certificate and the word heterosexual does not appear in the United States Constitution.
Just because you think the bronze age god sent an angel to screw a virgin who popped out a bastard son of the bronze age god baby daddy, and you think the Jews killed him and you believe he died for your sins and the sins of the hundreds of millions of Christians who enslaved, tortured and massacred hundreds of millions of people on every continent for 2010 years, and continue denying human rights to people who are not heterosexual in the name of the bastard son of the bronze age god baby daddy does not mean you are right.
Heterosupremacist tyrannical theocRAT crusade against human rights will end when Americans whose brains have evolved past the bronze age to the 21st century take responsibility for equality for all Americans.
