Bachmann suggests Obama is buying votes with funds from discrimination settlement
Wednesday, October 06, 2010 at 8:46 am
Rep. Michele Bachmann “sincerely” wants to know: Is President Obama trying to buy votes in minority communities using funds from a class-action settlement against the U.S. Department of Agriculture over discrimination against African American farmers?
Bachmann posed the question in an appearance on the radio show of Andrew Breitbart, a tea party activist who forced the resignation of Shirley Sherrod from her job at the USDA by distributing a video of Sherrod that was selectively edited to make her look like a racist. Sherrod was a recipient of some of the class-action funds after state and federal government declined agriculture grants to a community farm she and her husband ran. The case, Pigford v. Glickman resulted in almost $1 billion in payments due to discrimination.
On Breitbart’s show, Bachmann accused the settlement against the USDA of fraudulently distributing the money to people who didn’t face discrimination (an accusation that has been hotly disputed), but then went on to lament that other communities might file a class-action lawsuit for discrimination as a result.
“There’s calls to give out more, quote, discrimination money to Native Americans who claim they were discriminated against by the USDA, but it doesn’t end there. They want to also have a class of, quote, women farmers who were discriminated against and another class of, quote, Hispanic farmers who were discriminated against,” she said.
Bachmann then accused the Obama administration of buying votes. “There a real question, a sincere question that: Was this really about vote buying? Because before election cycles, that’s when the demand comes to pay out these claims in order to get support.”
“And our president, Barack Obama, filed a piece legislation to fund this Pigford case when he was running for president,” she said. “And at that time we saw the black community in the southern part of the United States turn to Barack Obama rather than Hillary Clinton. There’s a lot of implications here.”

A quibble – Breitbart disseminated the Sherrod video, but I believe he claims not to be the one who selectively edited it.

Good point. I tweaked the language to indicate Breitbart’s main role, as far as we know, was in distributing the video.

This is such classic Michele Bachmann! Absolutely CLASSIC! How many time has she used that line “sincerely wants to know”? She does it all the time when she was to plant the seed of deception or misconduct or whatever. Of course she never states these accusations outright because she never has the proof. She just LOVES to imply. That’s as far as she can go and she knows it. Unfortunately for her anyone with a few functioning brain cells knows exactly what she’s doing.
With that said, it appears her supporters have very few functioning brain cells. This crap works for them and they buy it hook, line and sinker. Can’t we just give the 6th District to Wisconsin or somebody and just be done with these idiots and her?

I’m just wondering if it’s true that Michele Bachmann has had an abortion?

Why don’t you find out the number of claimants in Pigford I & II and then figure out how many black farmers there were in the United States during the period in which the discrimination took place. It’s at that point that you have zero argument, Mr. Birkey. If you want more information it’s only a Google search away. Don’t be lazy. The Democrats will not attempt to publicly answer to the charges of widespread fraud. Insiders say it’s 75-97% fraud. It’s certainly well over 50%. When you are talking about billions of dollars that starts to add up and even fair-minded ‘progressives’ will be astounded and aghast at how flamboyantly corrupt Pigford became. The biggest losers were the original litigants, the black farmers who wanted to stop ‘land loss’. Greedy class action attorneys (hi, Al Pires!) rigged the system so that it became more of a money play for non-farmers, than a land-play for foreclosed upon black farms. And the mostly Caucasian class action attorneys got wildly rich in the process. As to the vote buying aspects. That, too, is Google accessible public information. Get Lexis-Nexis and there’s a treasure trove of data and quotes and letters between interested parties. Even better, there is a fantastic Pigford historian. I won’t spoil the fun and give his name. But he was in the reparations movement from the beginning and he really gives the goods on what happened from the beginning to the end. And there’s some spectacular quotes from him that lay out how certain politicians would benefit from Pigford. Sad chapter in American history… exploited for partisan gain. And the black farmers who were discriminated against were again treated like second class citizens. But you progressive alt weeklies are in on the racket. You won’t look into the truth. You’ll just give your pals in a certain party, and their the patrons, the trial lawyers in the center of this $2.75 billion-and-counting mess, a massive pass.

Could you sum up for us what Andy’s “argument” in this story is, Andrew?

Andrew Breitbart isn’t going to answer you, Paul – he and James O’Keefe are busy getting dressed up as pig farmers to go undercover and expose this scam.

Andy has no argument to be sure, but what’s the point of doing a write up that gives a platform to two serial racist, nut job liars who have some “concern” about 1) “poor black farmers” and 2) corruption? Like the comment from “Andrew Breitbart”, all this amounts to is a series of insinuations and smears without any facts to support it. The only people who will believe this crapola are the ones who have already drunk the same kool-aid.

While we conservatives are always pointed out as racist and hateful by the left, it always amazes me that regardless of the blog or website I read, it far more common for those on the left to leave shrill, rude, immature and foul comments.
Do your research on this one, lefties. Those who were discriminated against certainly deserve compansation. The problem is that urban blacks were recruited to file claims by class action attorneys and federal government employees once the attorneys and employees felt confident settlement payments would be paid with no verification. The fraud in this debacle is incredible.
Grow up leftist children and do some true research.

Funny, my experience is the opposite. Also, what’s up with anonymous Greg calling his opponents children? Not very grown up now, is it?

Paying off a settlement is not buying votes – unless you are a republican talking about a democrat or a minority, apparently.
I’m still waiting for that GOP-to-English dictionary.

Administration of the class action lawsuit is NOT conducted by Obama or even anyone appointed by Obama, it is conducted by the Court. It is the Court’s responsibility to determine whether claims are valid. Whether you like or hate class action lawsuits, it is NOT a matter of political party. You should know that “Andrew”… its only a Google search away.
FYI — Several senators of both parties sponsored the bill to fully fund the claims.
Like always, Bachmann shows an amazing lack of knowledge of legal and legislative processes for someone who is both an attorney and a member of Congress.

It’s very sad that libs who love to play the discrimination card won’t accept the ‘possibility’ that some fraud exists here…how could anybody argue against an investigation unless they’re afraid of what they may find. It the claims are legit then the payouts should take place…if not then this is robbing the taxpayers of their hard earned money. It’s no wonder that their is a tital wave of political mistrust sweeping the country…go ahead Libs, keep being so arrogant and unwilling to do your homework…I think the upcoming electon results will serve as a wake up call…as a conservative citizen…i feel the same about the republicans…if they blow the trust then they’ll be voted out too…it’s time for term limits…

Sad Country: “IF” the Republicans blow the trust?? Apparently the majority of Americans determined that they had, and voted them out in the last election. Now they deserve another chance?

Michele “Conspiracy” Bachmann. Until Obama got the nomination for the Presidential ticket, we never heard from her. But as soon as a black man (half white, by the way!) gets to sit behind the desk in the Oval Office, she can’t spew conspiracy theories or cry about socialist agenda’s fast enough!
Crazy bat lady from hell!

To SAD COUNTRY: maybe if Bachmann actually backed up her crazy claims with some proof. Just because she says something (and she says A LOT of “something”), doesn’t make it true. Her claims are ALWAYS proven to be false and imaginary. She has no dignity, no decency or ethics. She’s just a lying republican hack!
If ONE thing is ever found to be true that she claims, you would have an argument against “liberals”.
By the way…”liberal” and “progressive” are NOT dirty words.

Ms Bachmann is the perfect example of a human being in desperate need of a working brain…the one she has now is malfunctioning…

One of my favorite Bachmann rants was about the census. Remember this one?
Bachmann: “Take this into consideration. If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the census bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations, at the request of President Roosevelt, and that’s how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps. I’m not saying that’s what the Administration is planning to do. But I am saying that private, personal information that was given to the census bureau in the 1940s was used against Americans to round them up and put the Japanese in internment camps.”
Forget for a minute this is just the usual Bachmann-style rant without substance, ( I must admit however, this is probably one of her more twisted ones.) She couldn’t even get the dates right. WW2 ended in 1945. Sorry, but I find no mention in American history of Japanese Americans being sent to internment camps after the war ended.
