Bachmann on Iran: U.S. needs to do more than talk
Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 9:51 am
Speaking at a conservative symposium on Iran at the National Press Club Wednesday, Rep. Michele Bachmann called Iran “a danger to every nation in the world” and said “we know that they [Iran] already have a nuclear capability.” She said Iran has “crossed the line” and that the United States “needs to do more than the simple engagement strategy of talking.” She did not elaborate on what that new strategy might entail.
The symposium was hosted by Freedom Watch, a lobbying group that supported George W. Bush’s War on Terror and the Iraq War. The group drew criticism for ads that linked the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center to Iraq instead of Al Qaeda.
The event’s purpose was to “help convince the new Congress, with the House of Representatives now in Republican hands, independent Democrats, and other entities, to push harder for U.S. and western intervention to remove this dangerous radical Islamic regime before it is too late.”
Bachmann said, “Their dictator, Mr. Ahmadinejad, has announced to the world their intention to bomb Israel. He directs his insulting comments to the cameras right here to our American media, right here on American soil. How long will our current administration ignore the in-our-face preview of what is to come?”
A reporter questioned Bachmann on what she sees as the differences between the current administration’s and Bush’s on Iran policy.
“The opportunity we have today, in 2010, is to extend our hand to the dissidents in Iran to show a strong U.S. presence,” she said. “What we have seen from the administration on the issue of engaging with Iran and from previous administrations that have engaged with Iran and we haven’t seen productivity in those engagements.”
She continued, “Now we know that Iran appears to have crossed the line and with that crossing of the line, it’s imperative that the U.S. makes it’s opinion known to the world. When there were dissents in Iran, at a very crucial time who could have used our help particularly in the elections, we were absent from that opportunity and I think any opportunity we have going forward we need to do more than the simple engagement strategy of talking because what we have seen are nothing but insults coming out of the regime.”
Finally, she said, “They are thumbing their nose at the United States right now and insulting us in every possible way that they can. So, I think it’s imperative that we appreciate the risks that not only the United States is looking at but the destabilizing effect on the world.”
Other speakers at the event included “former CIA Director James Woolsey, former CIA double ‘agent’ Reza Kahlili, whose recent book, “A Time to Betray” details his time as an American spy inside the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, former U.N. Ambassador Alan Keyes, former Reagan administration national security advisor, Frank Gaffney, investigative journalist and Iran specialist Ken Timmerman, human rights activist and former Miss Canada Miss World runner-up, Nazanin Afshin-Jam, founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, Larry Klayman and U.S. Senators and Congressmen.”

“NOTHING CAN DEPRIVE IRAN OF ITS INALIENABLE RIGHT FOR NUCLEAR ENERGY.”
BUT, YOU CAN KEEP TRYING BY ALL MEANS TO SABOTAGE IT SUCH AS SANCTIONS, VIRUS, ALL KINDS OF MEDIA PARANOID PROPAGANDA LIES LIKE WMD IN IRAQ, IRAN IS A THREAT OR YOU NAME IT LIKE THE WAY THE BIBLE WRITTEN.
UN CHARTER VII ARTICLE 51:
Provides for the right of countries to engage in military action in self-defense, including collective self-defense (i.e. under an alliance) FOR IRAN

Wondering how Iran endangers Uruguay and Sri Lanka, to name just two. Someone should warn them, they may miss the connection as well.

Bachmann is one of Israel’s top inside lobbyist spies. They also gave generously to her campaign.
I wonder if she knows Israel has “socialist health insurance”?

or that Israel “murders pre-born children”?

Would her supporters agree with Bachmann and her support of Israel if they knew their tax dollars were going to support a Godless, socialist country like this?

“Ok, here is what I don’ get.
It’s not ok with God if a 16 year old girl does not want to carry a rapists baby to term.
BUT, God thinks it is ok to torture hundreds, kill thousands, displace millions and exterminate the human race?”

Talk is cheap.
How does she plan to pay for military action?
President Obama has strengthened international support for the sanctions and focused them more on the regime and less on the general population.
Ahmadinejad has been running at the mouth because he is feeling the pressure. He is trying to get support to undermine the sanctions.
The Iranian government does not like us, but the Iranian people do.
China has invested in Iran as an emerging market they want to take advantage of.
We do not buy oil from Iran, but some of our allies do.
Thanks to Bush43, we do not have the military or economic resources to invade Iran no matter what the provocation. We could only destroy from a distance, and to do that we would need more international support than the republicans could ever hope to rally. Their continued undermining of Obama44 makes it unlikely that the Democrats could get enough support either.
If we were to attack Iran, it would have to be with overwhelming international support. At a minimum, an attack would destabilize the mid-east and drive up oil prices – starting a new recession. At that point, the rest of the world could decide they really don’t need our leadership all that much anymore. It could unite Iran against us and possibly provoke a genuine religious war. We could lose the support of China, which would hurt us economically and politically. We could lose the support of Russia, which could hurt us economically and would exacerbate the nuclear weapons problem.
Republicans seem far more interested in acquiring and exercising domestic political power than in controlling nuclear weapons and other acts of responsible behavior.

One thing sure to destroy the credibility of an Iranian dissident is to receive visible support from either pro-Israel US conservative Christians or the US government.

Sri lanka, yeah. Also Nauru and Molossia.
Doesn’t Mz. Bombast feel “enheartened” that Iran is a threat to N Korea?
“Bachmann on Iran: U.S. needs to do more than talk”
no doubt she’ll soon call for bombing “those socialists in the US House of Reps., while we have the window of opportunity”
“How does she plan to pay for military action?”
obviously, by cutting capital gains taxes, enacting Tort Reform LCVI, protecting marriage, and banning fluoridated condoms! only a socialist would need to ask!

Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons!
Michelle knows the stakes at hand here and so do I.
Eyeryone need to consider this issue while viewing the big picture. Achmedenejad is a loose canon who has taken a walk off the map of reality.
