Cravaack says he’ll only serve four terms, not optimistic about two

Rep.-elect Chip Cravaack told the Duluth News Tribune that he will not serve more than four terms in Congress and says he’s concerned he might only get one. Cravaack is the first Republican to represent the 8th Congressional District since World War II and made term limits a part of his campaign. His predecessor, Rep. James Oberstar, held the seat for 36 years.
The Tribune asked Cravaack how long he intended to stay in Congress.
Cravaack responded, “I’ve always said I’d prefer not to serve more than three terms, and I won’t serve more than four.”
Cravaack’s website touts his commitment to term limits. “I am a strong proponent of term limits. Term limits, I believe, will alleviate the affects of lobbyists and special interest groups that seem to have taken over from the will of the people and the representatives we send to Congress.”
Cravaack also added that it’s going to be difficult to be re-elected in a historic DFL stronghold.
“I realize this is a very highly Democratic area,” he said. “I also realize there’s a lot of people that really don’t like me being here in this seat. But hopefully they’ll judge me by my actions rather than what’s behind my name, an ‘R.’ Because I will be working very hard for the people of the 8th.”
Last week, Cravaack was tapped to serve on the House transportation committee, the same committee where Oberstar served as chair for four years.

It’s too bad AsCraack is serving even one term. Voters in the Eighth District will be sorry they elected this rubberstamp rebublican once they see him in action.

There are a lot of new jobs in mining and shipping in the 8th district that are coming down the pipe .. These jobs are a direct result of Oberstars legislation.. Unfortunately
‘Chip’ is walking into a good situation.. He can take credit for all of the jobs he created .. Hopefully the 8th is smart enough to see through ‘Chip’ and his Bullsh1t… Give him one term!!

Are any of these new jobs the results of possible earmarks still in the works? Remember earmarks are dead by Tea Party/Republican decree. Cravaack could never support them if that’s the case.

Cravaack recognizes he’s in a no-win situation. If he sticks to his principles of smaller, less intrusive government, the labor unions who have relied on government pork will oppose him, and if he caves to the “government is our nanny” crowd, he’ll lose the support of the conservative people who put him there.
He’s right to not buy any green bananas.

That old “government is our nanny” canard is … well … old especially given the tendency of Republicans and their like to intrude into the lives of same-gender couples and women’s reproductive rights among other issues. Give that recycled talking point a rest, Dennis.

@Lane >>You are so right on dude.. When it comes to Education and Jobs Republicans consider it “Pork” .. When it comes to Vagina’s and Queers THEN WE NEED TO EXPAND GOVERNMENT TO STOP THIS TREACHERY.. Lol These little Republican dwarfs are irritating…

So the 8th gets a do nothing like Bachmann only with no skirts… or at least in public no skirts. This guy sounds like he is an empty suit dithering about how often he will win elections. May I suggest he sit down, shut up and get to work for Minnesota. Or would that be asking too much?
I can’t believe this tool got elected or that those nice roads you drive around on up North are not important to the voters.

gee – do we have some sore losers here. Give the guy a break – he hasn’t even been sworn in yet. I can tell by the lovely rhetoric the class people posting here. Classic representation of Dems?

Yeah, what Sandy W said.
Youse sore losers, and youse people who use the lovely rhetoric- whatever that is–youse have bad attitudes and show what a bunch of losers you Democrats are. Unlike us Murikans who accept the negro kenyan as Presdent and want government out of our medicare and bring guns to political events and shout down Congress people. So there!! You could learn a lot from us. Take that, you lovely rhetoric spewers!! Too bad youse not as classy as us white Christian Murakins.
And GOD BLESS MURICA!!!! Take that!!!!!!!!

Judging from most of the comments here, it is easy to understand why Northeastern Minnesota votes primarily Democratic Party. As long as most of the people up here think this way, the area will remain utterly dependent upon government and otherwise economically backward and stagnant. Cravaack won a great victory and I’m sure will work hard to help all of his constituents (even those above who apparently prefer to remain addicted to nanny state welfare schemes the Democrats have provided them for decades). People who want to see some real and positive change here will have to hope that the rising generations have a lot more common sense and self respect than their elders apparently do.

Lets see where Chip is heading with this idea of his. First he stays in the Navy long enough to get trained at taxpayers expense to fly. Then he goes to work for a big airline. After getting a bogus, sleep apniea really, retirement from the airline, he goes to work for the taxpayers just long enough to get government health care for him and his family, and, a nice retirement package to boot. After all the disability payments, and, government funded pensions and health care, he will probably go to work as a lobbyist. Sounds, like the Chipster, knows how to play the system to me.

I wonder how Chip’s tea-bagging supporters will feel about his pick for Cheif of Staff:
- Rep.-elect Chip Cravaack (R-MN) selected corporate lobbyist Rod Grams as his chief of staff. Grams works for a lobbying firm called Hecht, Spencer, and Associates where he represents 3M, Norfolk Southern and the Financial Services Roundtable, the trade association for the country’s largest banks.
Aren’t tea-baggers supposed to be against Loggiests and bailing out banks? Isn’t putting one of them in as cheif kind of a slap in the face? Or don’t they really mean all those things they’be been saying. (I choose this last one.)

Marcus, I believe Different Tim chose to respond to Sandy W’s gee whiz comment in a sarcastic way.
