Bachmann outlines budget cuts
Monday, January 03, 2011 at 12:42 pm
Rep. Michele Bachmann sat down with WCCO’s Esme Murphy on Sunday following a Face the Nation appearance in which she proclaimed that she lives “in the real world.” Asked where she would trim the federal budget, Bachmann said she wants to cut federal employees, stop stimulus spending and freeze unnamed federal accounts which have $20 billion.
Pressed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper in November about her plans for cutting the budget, Bachmann could offer no specifics, instead erroneously claiming that President Obama’s trip to India, which she said represented “over-the-top spending,” cost $200 million per day. On WCCO, she had more concrete, although still vague, plans.
Murphy asked, “Where would you slash? I mean if you could just go one two three what would be your top priorities?”
“I think mistakes were made in passing the stimulus in the first place and also in the TARP bailout” — which was signed into law by George W. Bush in 2008 — “so we do have quite a bit of money still left unspent stimulus funds. We shouldn’t spend that,” Bachmann said. “We have other accounts that have $20 billion in them that we haven’t spent we shouldn’t spend that. We need to take the federal employees that were added, an additional 10 percent, and we need to cut back on there as well.”
She added, “I don’t like the idea of just across the board cuts because some budgets might need to be increased.”

So Bachmann wants to get rid of the TSA, “the federal employees that were added”? I think this may be the first time I’ve ever agreed with Michele Bachmann.

By all means increase the number of unemployed as your first priority.
How about going after unpaid corporate taxes / loopholes?
How about not handing out wads of cash in Iraq & Afghanistan and using our money to build things like waterparks there? There is wasteful spending if they would look for it.

Any unsopent Stimulus monies are needed for infrastructure projects. The US is lagging 20 years behind much of Europe and Asia as far as infrastructure is concerned.
The sad state of our Roads, Bridges, Electrical Grids, Dams, Rivers, rail transportation, Underground sewer systems, are all falling behind. A sound infastructure means jobs, jobs, jobs!!!
If Bachmann wants to see spending cuts, then look at the bloated Pentagon budget! Why are we fighting 2 wars at a cost of $200 Million a day?? Why are there US troops in places no longer considered a threat to our National Security?? Why is the US still subsidizing other country’s Military? Why are we also subsidizing Corporations, when they are making record profits, that are shipping jobs overseas???
If there are areas of spending that needs to be looked at, it is these!!! Leave Social Security, Medicare, and Unemployment benifits alone that put money back into the Economy via spending.

Republicans are wrong when they think they got a mandate. Latest polls show majority of Americans want to “tax the rich 1st”, THEY ARE SOOO WRONG ON THIS
and that poll shows 2nd place at only 20% wanting to cut defense, AGAIN reps don’t seem to have a clue.

Let’s start with the untold amounts that are funneled into her ‘family farm’. Then we can cut her health care, paid by the government that she so hates. Maybe a cut in pay for her and all her cronies in congress- most of them are either millionaires or on the take. Let’s see how serious she is about cutting spending if it affects her and her ilk. Then we can talk about cutting spending that affects the less privledged in this country.

Hey, Michelle, lets start with the subsidies to farmers, then move on to federal aid to local govenments, and, states. Why don’t you volunteer to find the sort of cuts you want to make, out of the federal dollars spent in the 6th district? If you vote to gut the new health care bill, are you going to volunteer to give up your government health care? This woman, is an embarassment to all of us in Minnesota, i would like to see her volunteer to give up all of the federal funds that flow into her district. In fact, i only with Obama would find a way to make cuts in federal payments to all of the districts which have elected dimwits like Bachmann, if they want a freeze on government spending, let it start with them…………….

Yea, she is from the real world, the real world bubble of conservatism that thinks global warming should be regulated according to the bible which says that supposedly the world will not be ended by flood so says god or so says the lawmaker shitsky or something like that who read from the bible in a meeting and he concluded if it’s in the bible and god said then it’s obviously true; slicklits, or whatever his name is, you know the guy on the global warming committee, the committee that Repubs want to do away with. She lives in the made up non science world of FOX not news and right wing radio, where there is a conspiracy around every corner and only they have the inside scoop. Wow what a deluded group of of sheep.
Her world has in it Great historians like David Barton, who likes to just make sh*t up, and talking snakes, talking burning bushes, where it is possible to walk on water, where FOX not news Hannity is considered to be a Constitutional scholar; like tax cuts, we all know that money taken out of your right pocket stays there even though you just took it out(Republican math), I guess through sleight of hand is how it is done. She believes that a trip to India by the President costs $200 million a day(which by the time it got around to Beck) was $200 billion a day; and requires taking an entourage of 3000 people who are going to stay at the Taj Mahal; and lt’s not forget 20% off the Navy is going too.
As has been said of one of her cohorts and definitely applies to her, too: That woman is an idiot.
Fellow countrymen, fellow citizens, Minnesotans, what have you done? Where is Taryl Clark when you need her?
