I Wonder why as the chief law enforcement officer for Ramsey County, Sheriff Bob Fletcher allowed Blackwater contractors to unlawfully round up people peacefully sitting in a public park, and why St Paul’s Police Chief John Harrington also allowed it? I was a clear violation of the people's first amendment rights. I also cannot help but wonder why the use of deadly force was authorized as a last resort to protect them from non-violent protestors to ‘protect themselves’ was authorized? I also wonder why nobody has asked the question, “Why were Blackwater Contractors used? And Why was their presence never questioned by the media?”

It sounds like the journalists who were "just showing up for work" got the same treatment as the protesters--even those who peacefully assembled to protest. It is a grave situation that highlights how tenuous our personal rights really are, even in this country.

Thank you for writing about this. This is something that needs to be common knowledge. If I am not mistaken, a felony charge can keep you from being able to vote, right? Dark days, indeed. This really needs to stop.

Guess we best get used to it. Haha. In florida they arrest children for trying to bring a bottle of water to a woman being starved to death. Not to mention a host of other idiotic arrests. And this was supported by ultra liberals who have power and are corrupt.

"As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of the change in the air--however slight--lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness." William O. Douglas

Well William D., I'm afraid we're well past "twilight" here. It's the midnight hour and then some. ..yet something is changing among these media independants who stand up and demand justice and I honor them with a most unquiet applause.

Chris Coleman must be targeted for defeat in the next mayoral election in St. Paul. His office thinks the city did a great job hosting the RNC. Yeah, right. The reporting here on MN Independent over the past week--and in particular this piece--shows that's bullshit. Dump the Colemans--Norm AND Chris!
