Bachmann criticizes Obama for siding with Wisconsin public workers
Friday, February 18, 2011 at 3:18 pm
In a Friday afternoon interview with Fox News, Rep. Michele Bachmann took on the White House for siding with tens of thousands Wisconsinites who are protesting a proposed repeal of bargaining rights for the state’s public employees. Bachmann called President Obama’s support “shocking” and said the protests remind her of those in Greece last year. She also said teachers who called in sick to protest are doing it “so they can make more money.”
On Thursday, Obama addressed the ongoing protests in the Badger State:
“Some of what I’ve heard coming out of Wisconsin, where you’re just making it harder for public employees to collectively bargain generally seems like more of an assault on unions. And I think it’s very important for us to understand that public employees, they’re our neighbors, they’re our friends. These are folks who are teachers and they’re firefighters and they’re social workers and they’re police officers.
“They make a lot of sacrifices and make a big contribution. And I think it’s important not to vilify them or to suggest that somehow all these budget problems are due to public employees.”
Talking Points Memo provides this transcript of Bachmann’s Fox appearance:
“They have the support of the White House. But I don’t believe that they have the support of the people of Wisconsin. Again, remember what we’re talking about. These are public servants — they serve the people of Wisconsin.
In Greece, for instance, in the streets, what we saw were beneficiaries of government checks, who took to the streets because the retirement age was going to be raised from 61 to 63. In this instance, Eric Bolling was on earlier showing that this is simply, a contribution is being asked on the part of public servants, to pay for part of their health insurance. Not even the full part that their private sector counterparts pay for, and part of their pension. This is something that happens everyday in the private sector.”
So now we are at the tipping point. This debate needed to come, it’s good that it came. What’s shocking is that the White House is weighing in, taking sides, and bringing in a campaign apparatus to set this up.
If we look back to what President Reagan did, President Reagan fired the air traffic controllers. We’re now on day three of Wisconsin teachers leaving their post, and leaving the children that they are tasked to serve, and not teaching them, so that they can go out and protest, so they can make more money.
This is beyond conscionable, and I’m urging Governor Walker and the legislators to hang tough, because I believe the people are with the governor and with the legislature.”

I thought Republicans were in favor of people making as much money as they can. After all, Bachmann’s never turned down a pay raise, a foster child remuneration, or a farm subsidy check.

Once again, just spitting out something that will be against the other party.
The idea of this amount of control that Wisc is trying to get OVER the people, is exactly the OPPOSITE of what the Right is always spouting.
once again you can’t have it both ways, you can’t have less politics with more control. you can’t have smaller government with more policies.
Get a clue!

I haven’t been to this website in quite sometime,I had a nervous breakdown when that idiot from the sixth congressional district ,(you know the crazy person)was re-elected.Boy,you people in Minnesota are getting real close to rivaling South Carolina as a nutjob state.Maybe you should have congress re-evaluate the boundries.

Government employees should be banned from belonging to a labor union because it’s a corrupt conflict of interest.
The taxpayers pay the alleged public servants, who then pay union dues to their union bosses, who then buy democrat politicians with campaign contributions, who then vote to increase the pay and benefits of the unionist government employees.
The vicious circle has driven most states and municipalities close to bankruptcy and the corrupt system of mutual back scratching between democrat politicians, goverment employees and their corrupt unions must stop now.

Comrade Dennis, you forget: capitalists who pay billions in campaign contributions and other bribes to our Republican comrades to get important tax breaks and licenses and franchises from the government. Be careful not to upset the great balance in favor of our “capitalist” comrades who are also engaged in the class struggle!

Bachmann said: “These are public servants — they serve the people of Wisconsin.”
Doesn’t she really mean these people and all the workers of American should be the slaves of corporate American?
Wisconsin HAD a budget surplus until Walker screwed that all up. Also note, he did not go after the unions representing the police and firefighters because they SUPPORTED him in his bid for the governor. I think we’re seeing the start of a nation wide revolt and it’s not going to stop with Wisconsin.

The U.S. is long overdue for a national strike, and while this is happening we could haul the liars in congress out of their cushy offices, and tell them WHAT WE WANT.Of course most of them would run away due to the cowardice factor

Republican politicians bought by big business, crafting legislations for and voting for the big business agenda.
“A number of the big business interests standing with Walker are beneficiaries of his administration’s tax giveaways. But the greatest ally to Walker is the dirty energy company Koch Industries. In response to the growing protests in Madison, Koch fronts are busing in Tea Party protesters to support Walker and his union-busting campaign… Koch-financed Americans for Prosperity are financing a pro-Walker protest scheduled tomorrow (Saturday).”

You mental midgets are missing my point. Private citizens (and companies) have a constitutional right to petition their goverment, and I’m not paying their salaries to do so, their customers are.
Public employees are paid with taxpayer money and then are using that taxpayer money to buy politicians to get them more taxpayer money. For those of you who had to go to government schools, that’s known as a conflict of interest, not to mention corrupt.

And quit using the term “workers”
Communist China has “workers.” The old soviet union had “workers.” Cuba has “workers.” It’s a Marxist term.
We have employees, merchants, entrepreneurs. Workers only exist in communist countries.

Hey, Dennis. Public employees are private citizens too. They have consitiutional rights just like you. I guess you don’t see public employees as citizens or even people. But corporations, like your employer (insurance, right?) they are “citizens and people….that is really warped.

I’d appreciate some examples from the last 10 years.
On the other side (for example big pharma and insurance) there’s Medicare D with no negotiation allowed for drug prices, and the members of Congress bought/elected to protest their interest against the health care act.

Dennis (which ever random right wing blogger using the name Dennis you are today)
Does it hurt to be as stupid as you are….isn’t Michele Bachmann a public servant? Don’t we pay her salary? So what gives her the right to spew out lies for her own iditot self interest.
Also, Dennis, after me posting this numerous times, I have called you out repeatdly and still have gotten an answer, so I will repost both and you can pick one to answer:
-Name 1, just 1 civil liberty or right we have lost since Obama entered the White House
-You said the May clinic hallways looked like the UN, my question posed to you was back up your fat ass idiot statement by telling all of us the last time, if ever, you were aat the Mayo clinic to support your statement. Were you maybe there to see if Michele Bachamnn visits there psych ward on a regualr basis?

Bopper—-love your posts, lots of good points, however I have to point out, the foreclosure thing….if you don’t make a payment, the collateral (the home) in this case gets taken back. At that point I think becoming a renter vs a homeowner is probably the least of the problems (emplyment, health ins, etc..)
Sorry, this is what makes the lending world go round.
Please note I am not taking a shot at you I just wanted you to know my view point and while I think the robo signing thing should be investigated, it doesn’t change the fact a mortgage is a contract and if you don’t make the payments the lender will take the collatarel back.

Speaking of contracts its obvious the Wisc gov and Michelle only honor them when its convenient. Liked the Greek straw man from our girl in a whirl. The governors misdirection is pretty ballsy really. He acts as if everyone will believe every word that comes out of his mouth – without question. Here’s a quote for the governor – Politicians are like talking dogs in the circus. The fact that they exist at all is unendingly interesting, but now sane person would listen to anything they say…

Your thoughts on work are pretty telling, Dennis. So it’s about subservience to a boss (employees), selling things (merchants) or making money (entreprenuers)? Is there no value in work itself and a job well done?
Comment posted February 19, 2011 @ 11:33 am
Dear God
The right wing is setting the agenda. God help us. The “left” or should I say pseudo left Democratic Party and their apologists continue to let them do so.
This article is a perfect example. Focusing on Michelle Bachman and her thoughts, instead of what ordinary workers are doing in Wisconsin. Why give a crap what that nut job says or thinks. Same thing goes for that other right wing fruitloop Dennis says or thinks. Neither of these idiots have any facts to back any of their thoughts or beliefs.
CHAD
On your comments about what rights have we lost since Obama took office. The answer is none. However, the deeper question is, how many rights that we have lost has been regained since Obama took office is the same. None. In fact if anything the loss of rights and lack of accountability of those in power has been reinforced and deepened.
Although it could be argued that there are some losses. For example, the FBI are targeting peace activists in Minnesota (the Anti-War Committee and Women Against Military Madness) with Grand Jury investigations and infiltration. Under the very direct orders of Attorney General Eric Holder and the personal authorization of president Obama.
Not to mention the brutality heaped on long time peace and justice activist and former CIA analyst Ray McGovern for simply standing up and turning his back on Hillary Clinton, as she gave a speech on the brutality of protesters in Egypt.
These are a continuation of Cointel Pro (it did not go away, despite what has been said) so it is not really new.
However, these attempts to suppress dissent were not done by Bush and Company.

——————————————————————————-
Well, let’s remove “public employees” and fill in that blank with:
- corporations that do business with state and federal government
- drug companies, insurance companies, clinics, hospitals, etc. who are paid by medicare, medicade, VA, and any other programs
- farmers who receive government subsidies
- businesses that get gov grants, subsidies, and low tax deals
-politicians who give money to other candidates
We seem to agree that money can buy influence. That is the corrupt part. Get contributions out of campaigns. Workers – in unions or not – do not have the resources to “outbid” corporations.
Still waiting to hear about the sweetheart deals unions got from government in the last 10 – 12 years. Dems didn’t even push the Employee Free Choice Act in the last 2 years.

Chad- I agree that foreclosure is legal and right when a contract is broken. I was referring to the robo-signing and many other cases, such as when mortgages are sold many times without the home buyer being the payment should go to someone new. People who made payments – to the wrong place – have lost homes. People applying for refininacing and getting the runaround until it is too late. The dishonest lenders.

So Bachmann is upset because Obama supports legal collective bargaining. As a disabled veteran, I cannot understand why anyone would support her.
Comment posted February 20, 2011 @ 6:41 pm
Because the rest of us veterans support patriots like Bachmann, not politicians who just buy your vote by promising to give you things paid for by someone else.
We thought we defeated collectivism and the mandatory mediocrity it represents when we destroyed the soviet union. I guess you weren’t there.

Bachman is a moron and needs to go away. Walker is making a solid case to be considered as stupid as Bachman.
I have yet to hear one good reason to support Gov. Walker’s plan. I think it is a personal vendetta, nothing more. He will severely damage the economy of wisconsin for years to come. Walker is a single term governor if he doesn’t get recalled by the citizens of his state.

Walker was elected on his promise to do exactly what he is doing. The majority of the people of Wisconsin agree with him. Why do you think the cowardly dems ran away rather than have to vote? Because they’re in a no win situation because they know the people are with Walker against the collectivists who think the taxpayers owe them a lavish pay and benefits package for being in a meaningless job.
.
Comment posted February 21, 2011 @ 7:34 am
Dennis, honey, you should be up in arms against Bachmann; after all, she is receiving a lavish pay and benefits package courtesy of taxpayers including you for being in a meaningless job given she is doing anything but actually represent the 6th Congressional District of which you are probably not her constituent given Dennis Tester’s St. Paul address just off Summit Avenue which you freely divulged in a comment elsewhere.
I think it is very cowardly and infantile of the Wisconsin Republicans not to allow those across the aisle to participate in the political process, that those Democrat senators who are in hiding are being very brave in standing up to Governor Walker’s blatant union busting.

If it weren’t for Unions, people would be…
-working for piss poor wages(at the mercy of the employer)
-more than 40 hours a week
-no Sick time
-work 7 days a week
-lousy if any, benifits
-no paid vacation time
-in unsafe working conditions
-with no respect
and so forth.
So Dennis and others who believe Michele Bachmann’s every word…QUIT YOUR BITCHING!!!!

I stand with the workers of Wisconsin. Those who stand against the rights of workers, stand against humanity. BE REMINDED that Walker CREATED a budget deficit to be given the EXCUSE to engage in culture war – there was NO deficit in Wisconsin until Scott Walker CREATED one through kickbacks and illegitimate tax breaks to his corporate masters.

Organized labor’s numbers are shrinking year by year and for good reason. People don’t want to be tied to a marxist model where everyone gets the same pay and benefits regardless of competency which.
It results in job performance that matches the lowest common denominator, it rewards those who perform at minimum and it punishes those who try to excel.
You collectivists can organize and collectively bargain with any employer who’s willing to settle for substandard labor. But not on my dime. The taxpayers want and deserve public employees who are not tied to a union contract that sets a floor for acceptable performance and not a ceiling.
Most thinking people realize that having public employees who can collectively bargain their pay and benefits with politicians who then rely on their support come election time is a conflict of interest, corrupt, and probably unconstitutional.
Comment posted February 22, 2011 @ 10:27 am
It’s not just Governors like Scott Walker that want to BUST up the Unions, it’s other GOP Governors who want to do the same. They are quick to blame the workers for their state’s ills. That’s not going to happen.
Just as Admiral Yamamoto said after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, “What I have done is wake a sleeping tiger.”
Unions, Public or otherwise, are not going to take demands from paid off Leaders lying down. The Koch Brothers have their fingers in this mess. Donating over $40,000 to Scot Walker’s campaign to do their bidding, as these Billionaire Brothers have done all over the country. They pocket their Tax Cuts and Special privildges by laying off workers to add to their self worth!
Chris Christie and John Kasich are going to find out the hard way that Unions are not going to be bullied.
