Alexandria teen’s death ruled suicide, friends say bullying was a factor

An Alexandria, Minn., teen’s death has been ruled a suicide following conflicting reports about about the cause of death. KSAX reports that Lance Lundsten died on Jan. 17 from a “mixed drug ingestion.” Fellow students have speculated that he was bullied at Jefferson High School over his sexual orientation and have organized the Jefferson Anti-Bully Coalition.

Lundsten’s death prompted several students in the district to speak to local media about their experiences at Jefferson; one, a gay 19-year old recent grad, contemplated suicide after incessant taunts in the school’s hallways and classrooms.

Reports of Lundsten’s suicide led to a spat between KSAX and the Alexandria Echo Press when law enforcement told KSAX one thing and Lundsten’s family told the Echo Press another.

The Jefferson Anti-Bully Coalition renewed calls for people to “keep Lance in your prayers.”

It’s not the teasing that is causing children to commit suicide; it’s experimenting with homosexuality that is killing them. All it takes is one experiment to get a strangle hold on a child’s soul, that is capable of a life of torment as their conscious continues to remind them of what they have done against God and their own body. Homosexuality is the source of depression that leads to suicide.

One experiment with homosexuality reduces your life expectancy by 20 years. Sexual perversion is very dangerous, especially with children.

The gay lobby does not want to help save the lives of children; they want to take even more, by forcing schools to openly endorse the practice and welcome more students to experiment with their lives.

The gay lobby is the killer in the room and they need to be banned from all public schools.

I would suggest we condemn any and all bullying based on race, gender, gender orientation, religion, or socio-economic status. But then I don’t believe the Judeo-Christian tradition is supported by the evidence. We need to value facts over fiction, reality over mythology, and kindness over ignorance. Resist the dark ages.

Praise Jebus, God hates frightened children, Amen.

Tim – yours is one of the most insensitive, uninformed, and genuinely hateful comments I have ever read. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

For those who aren’t yet aware, Tim is a Christianist troll who relentlessly posts incitatory (and tiresome) anti-LGBT nonsense all over this website – and is not worth responding to really.

Tim – Looks like you are in good form today. Do you find peace and happiness from educating the public on your beliefs? I’m sorry to read so many of your negative comments regarding sexuality – I hope this in no way reflects your own experience. There is no need to live in shame of one’s sexuality – and if this is something that is near to your heart, I hope you find people who can help you work through the anger and fear surrounding sexuality that seems to inform much of what you say. It is becoming very evident that it is not about politics but that it is personal for you. All be the best!

“Fellow students have speculated that he was bullied at Jefferson High School over his sexual orientation and have organized the Jefferson Anti-Bully Coalition.”

It gives me hope that many of this next generation are organizing these anti-bullying coalitions. My heart goes out to this child’s family as they deal with their loss.

@ Tim: Whoever, whatever you are—shame on you for heaping on words of hate at this tragic loss.

I am proud to read that fellow students have started a anti bully program. I am also warmed to see others starting to speak up about their experiences.

Its time that these children have equal rights and are not treated like second class citizens.

In a time not so long ago, we had the same issues with race. We had the extremists calling them evil and using the bible to justify their words.

I pray for the family.

Following up on what Lane said, it’s not just Tim. Do not feed the trolls. They want to push other people’s buttons, not discuss anything. Don’t let them hijack comment threads.

EricF and Lane – I agree – usually I’m so good about ignoring trolls, but I think I was due my respond-to-troll-comment quota. I should be good for another 4 months.

If we keep fighting for civil rights due to all Americans, the Trolls can continue to not support all people, but they will, have to, by law, accept all people.

We just need to speak up and support, we need not be intimidated by the limit and bigotry and hate.

We need to continue the fight for civility and social justice.

There are still people that do not think the races should “mix” that one religion should be heard over another, that one’s creed, thought, is better than another, and that one’s biological sexual orientation is wrong over another.

But there will be laws to support all.

@Tim – in a way, I stand with you, because like you, I too am a closeted gay / bisexual.
Before you preach about subjects you have no business talking about, maybe you should go back to school and major in the study of “True” depression & what effects it has on the human body.
Then, and only then – when you have a masters degree in the mental, social, & physialogical teachings of depression, will anyone really take you seriously.
keep your friends close, & your enemies closer. – I hope we can become really good friends, as I now consider you an enemy.
When the day for your penance, you my dear enemy – will burn in hell for spreading your negative blasphemy.
With much love and prosperity ♥
Chris ;)

Tim,
While your comments sound as though spoken with authority, they make no logical sense and , most importantly, are not from Christ. First of all, if your assertion is true about equating homosexuality with depression, then why are homosexuals referred to as “gay.”
Seriously, I know of many “happy” homosexuals who do not consider suicide and are happy in their lifestyle. Just as I know many happy divorced people, greedy people, liars, fornicators, etc. As for whether that type of lifestyle is what God intended for humanity, I will leave that up to Him. But I don’t think he intended us to be liars, gluttons, war-mongers, or haters of anyone, either. Jesus, after all, did not single out homosexuals, but did speak generally regarding divorce and sexual sin, but that could cover a whole lot of heterosexuals as well. Please face the fact that your own sin is just as bad as what you seem to see in homosexuals. Remember when Jesus warned against judging others? Remember when he said, “take the log out of your own eye, before you take the speck out of your brother’s?” Remember that we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Remember that if we sin in one area, we sin in ALL. In other words, none of us have the right to do anything but love others and serve others, according to Christ. Christ said the greatest commandment is to love God and to love other people as yourself. Please read the Gospels again and not listen to other people who may “tickle your ears” with what you want to hear, but they do not follow the Gospel according to Christ. In fact, if you read Matthew again, you will find that Christ actually says that if you call your brother stupid, it is the same as being guilty of murder! The only thing that true Christians can cling to is Christ and what He did on the Cross. And remember that He died that EVERYONE, that ALL SINNERS, might be saved. That includes you, me, and the homosexuals. One sin is not greater than any other. The question is…do you, as a sinner, know what Christ did for you? If you do, then stop attacking and start loving others as Christ commanded! YES, LOVE THE HOMOSEXUALS!!!

It’s good to see the students have organized an anti-bullying coalition, however why didn’t they stand up for him when he was alive? Same with the staff at the school. Bullying isn’t done in a vacuum and if he was bullied in class the teachers should have said something and tried to stop it.

Oh, and Tim, you’re a bigoted jerk and know nothing of why these children are committing suicide. Actually, you are part of the bullying problem.

It is not homosexuality that is killing people, it’s all the prejudice behavior from people like TIM. Maybe, thinking before you type or say things isn’t one of your traits..but it should be. Because in reality you are making yourself look ignorant and heartless. Depression is not caused from homosexual behavior, depression is caused by people bullying anyone that is different from you.
I only hope this God that you are talking about forgives you for your prejudice sins.

Hey, Tim, if one “experiment” with homosexuality reduces one’s life expectancy by 20 years, does that mean that every gay man or lesbian will drop dead after engaging in homosexual sex only four, maybe five times?
