Video: Sen. Hall on Minneapolis and integration funding
Friday, April 01, 2011 at 3:07 pm
The DFL has released a video of this week’s statement by Burnsville Republican Sen. Dan Hall on school integration. “I watched Minneapolis get destroyed, so I not only didn’t want my kids in the school system,” he said. “I took them out of Minneapolis because they ruined our neighborhoods with integration and [de]segregation.” Hall made his remarks during debate about a move by Minnesota Republicans to repeal school integration laws, specifically a decades-long program that aims to diversify schools in the Twin Cities metro area and Duluth.
The video concludes with the text, “When the vote was taken, every Republican agreed with Sen. Hall and voted to cut desegregation funds.”

This man pretty much explains why I moved OUT of Burnsville. Was getting tired of other residents spitting — metaphorically and quite literally — at my rather tan spouse.

So, he reads his hatred from notes? And isn’t it sort of his problem if he graduated with a sixth grade reading level? My son, who attends a Minneapolis Public School, is a 3rd grader who reads at 8th grade level. Learning starts, and is encouraged, at home, no matter the skin color of the child.
I challenge this man to set foot in a public school, meet the teachers, kids, and parents, and then try to make this ridiculous statement.

Another racist fool. I’m sure as hell glad he did move out of Minneapolis and took his bigoted ass elsewhere!

…but God hardened Dan “The pharaoh” Hall’s heart.
Praise Jebus, God hates poor people, Amen.

This man is a disgusting and vulgar relic! He needs to go away, he serves no purpose other than a hate beacon. Integration was an EXCELLENT thing.. I look back at idiots like him, and feel SHAME and embarrassment….!

I am a product of a small town Public School education, and I am proud of that fact… Perhaps the quality of education would be improved, if the republicans and their minions-the large corporations- would stop the cutbacks of teachers, and aid to education. If you are upset at the quality of education, look no further than yourself.!

What do you expect from the Grand Oppression Party? It has become a “southern whites only party” that constantly rails and whines about being disadvantaged by non-whites. This is the only reason that they promote school vouchers; so that they can continue with segregated schools.

It’s all about cowardice. The terror this lily-white coward feels when he looks at scary dark-skinned people gets rationalized into bigoted statements like this, and legitimized by wrapping it in a suit. My kids all went to South High, a notion that would probably make this cracker wet his pants, and as a result they have no fear of people of color. On the other hand, they’re terrified of bigots like this guy.

Clearly, he graduated with both a 6th grade reading level and maturity. He’s a man who has not even earned the title yet. The “Screw the Poor” button literature from his election campaign has turned from a disgusting negative attack on Dan Hall to a disgustingly honest portrayal of Dan Hall.

The sad thing is that Senator Hall will not face any consequences for his statement. Before any right-wing trolls jump on me as calling for the “speech police,” I’m talking about political consequences. His constituents are, if they are paying attentikon at all, nodding their heads in silent agreement. He is speaking for them and they aren’t afraid to admit it.
His defenderrs will also point to his “best friends are minorities” as proof that he is not a racist. There are too many comebacks to that one.

1. As an English Teacher I am appalled that he blames his reading ability on de-segregation. What are the chances that his 6th grade reading ability is the fault of an untreated learning disability? The chances are very high that an unrecognized learning disability is to blame for his inability to read beyond a 6th grade reading level, – not integration with his “minority friends.” I truly hope that his mentality has not rubbed off on his 8 kids. Learning disabilities are often hereditary, and more common among boys/men. I truly hope that he does not judge or punish his kids… who probably received a lot more well-funded schooling to ensure that any learning disabilities would be less noticeable.
Someone really needs to encourage him to take the possibility of a learning disability seriously before he uses his undiagnosed challenges to defund urban and integrated schools.

Learning disability? It sounds to me like this man is a straightforward idiot.

I am a constitutent of Senator Hall. I am watching. I am not “nodding my head in agreement.” He is not speaking for me or for many others in Senate District 40. It is unfortunate that the rich diversityof the district does not amaze and intrigue this man of little vision. I challenge him to walk the halls of any school in Bloomington or Burnsvilee and see students of all races and ethnic backgrounds engaged in learning in our fine public schools. These young people know, respect and appreciate each other. They are growing up in an inclusive atmosphere and will not be bound by the bigotry of the past…
