Herman Cain claims Ellison supports Sharia law
Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at 12:55 pm
Potential presidential contender Herman Cain told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham that he wouldn’t allow Muslims to serve in his administration and that, because Rep. Keith Ellison took his oath of office on the Qur’an instead of the Bible, he supports Sharia law above the Constitution. Cain, a Republican, said that American law is based on the Bible.
“I want people in my administration that are committed to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States,” said Cain. “I don’t want any inkling of anybody in my administration who would put Sharia law over American law. I have not found a Muslim that has said that they will denounce Sharia law, you know, in order to support the Constitution of the United States.”
Cain, who was the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza and former chair of the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, formed an exploratory committee for the Republican nomination in 2012.
Ingraham asked Cain, “So Keith Ellison you think would be more in favor of Sharia law than the Declaration of Independence?”
Cain said, “Didn’t he take his oat on the Qur’an instead of the Bible? Am I wrong in that?”
“I think you are correct in that,” she said. (To be precise, it was a copy of the Qur’an owned by Thomas Jefferson.)
Cain continued, “This is my point. If you take an oath on the Qur’an, that means you support Sharia law. I support American law. Our laws were derived from principles that are biblically based. Maybe not said in the same words that are in the Bible, but our laws are derived from principles based upon the Bible. This is why I’m not going to back down or pander to anyone who wants to call me xenophobic or a bigot simply because I said no. I don’t want anybody in my administration that I’m going to have to be looking over my shoulder to figure out if they are going to try to do something against the principles that I believe in which are also the principles that the majority, the overwhelming majority of the American people believe.”

So Mr. Cain evokes the same Constitutional protection for himself (freedom of religion, 1st Amendment to the US Constitution) that he would violate for others. Theocracy or Democracy Mr. Cain. You can’t legitimately promote both.
Praise Jebus, God hates complicated subjects, Amen.

Paranoia.
Remember the last campaign where the repubs were going to save us from the terrorists crawling out of every dark hole.
It seems they really got to this guy.

Every time I see his name I have to ask, “Who the hell is Herman Cain?”

Apparently, Mr. Cain didn’t learn much about the Constitution while making pizzas. The Constitution provides that there shall be no religious test for eligibility to serve in the federal government – which Mr. Cain would violate by refusing to appoint Muslims. He also has, at most, a dim idea about what is meant by “Sharia.” As I recall, the know-nothings said that Kennedy, as a Catholic, would be obligated to obey the Pope instead of the Constitution. Now, he notion is that no Muslim could ever obey the Constitution or US law. So, 50 years later, ignorance still reigns.

“I want people in my administration that are committed to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States,” said Cain. “I don’t want any inkling of anybody in my administration who would put The Holy Bible over American law. I have not found a social conservative that has said that they will denounce Christian fundamentalist doctrine, you know, in order to support the Constitution of the United States.”
Cain continued, “This is my point. If you take an oath on the Qur’an, that means you support Sharia law.”
No, actually, it does not. It means that he swore on his Sacred Text that he would “support this Constitution”. Ellison swearing an oath on the Bible would have the same surety as Cain swearing an oath on the Qur’an.
“Our laws were derived from principles that are biblically based. Maybe not said in the same words that are in the Bible, but our laws are derived from principles based upon the Bible.” There is no truth in this, but I have no doubt that he has convinced himself of it nonetheless. The sin of pride can be a dreadful thing. Certainly not something you want in a leader.

I’m shocked!
Who knew Cain was well known enough to be laughed at?
Swearing on a qur’an bad, swearing on a bible good — not that we’re trying to impose our religion on anyone.

Why are you bashing cain for this. This is not a real reason to condemn him. If he perfers a christian over a muslim then more power to him. At least he is honest, thats more than you can say about Obama. Even if this were a racist remark, he has more experience with business and community than Obama. You Democrats keep pulling the race card, because it has no effect. Why don’t you try critisizing him for his policies! Oh Wait….. You don’t know his policies because none of you heard of him. I am sure none of you are aware that he supports Fair Tax which happens to be the last hope for our economy. Why don’t you unedjuated liberal Go read somthing other than a media headline you migh learn somthing. The problem with democrats are that they act on emotion like most women I know. To them logic and reason has nothing to do with politics. Any real american knows the in’s and out’s of both parties, and both parties have run up our deficit. enough said!

The Quran says “Convert or kill all infidels” no matter how you interpret it. Islam is the least peacful of any religion. So of course I don’t want a muslim running our government. And ya’ll are offended by this? This comment should be considered a good thing.

@Too Honest: I am sick and tired of duplicity in our politicians, those sycophants who without real conviction, pander to the politically correct “flavors of the month.” I whole heartedly agree with you.
Herman Cain is real, and honest. Agree or disagree with his ideas, it is refreshing to hear someone say what they mean and mean what they say.

As a leader, I would think that one would have to choose the appointees that are the most qualified, regardless of gender or race. That being said, anyone who is devout enough to take the oath of office on a Koran (spell it however you want) could never be the most qualified- because he would support only fellow Muslims.
I guess I agree with Mr. McCain.

@ Doc John
your logic then follows that anyone that would take oath over the bible would only support Christians, therefore all Jew’s, Muslims, and Non Christians would be put in a dangerous spot.
Ok I agree with you then John, Christians are dangerous!

@ Marie
No, not quite. The Bible does not demand that you either convert or kill all infidels (i.e. Non Christians) while the Koran does. The Bible actually teaches temperance and acceptance- even to those that oppose you.
So, I stand by my statement…

I suppose if he also said, “let’s gas all the Jews!’” you’d also find him refreshingly honest? Honestly expressing bigotry and hatred does not make you an honest person; it simply demonstrates that you are unashamed of your bigotry.
Would it have made any sense at all for Ellison, a Muslim, to swear on a Christian Bible? When people swear on the Bible, it’s not because they advocate everything in it (or even an indication that they’ve read it, as most people, “Christians” included, evidently have not). It’s simply a symbolic gesture that they are speaking the truth, as they would before God. That’s exactly what Ellison did when he swore on the Quran. Swearing on the Bible would have been a meaningless and dishonest gesture.
So, in my view, Ellison is an honest, righteous man, while Cain is the opposite.
