Mark Dayton advocates marriage equality for same-sex couples

“I stand with you,” was the message Gov. Mark Dayton had for LGBT advocates on Thursday afternoon at OutFront Minnesota’s LGBT Lobby Day at the Minnesota Capitol. Dayton was the first sitting governor to address the annual rally, which has been held for more than a decade. Dayton said he will block any efforts to curtail LGBT equality.

On same-sex marriage, Dayton said, “I believe that day will come.”

Though the governor will not be able to block a planned constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions, he said that people should be free to marry the man or woman they love.

On school bullying, Dayton said, “I will resist as best I conceivably can to any attempt to take away rights and protections” for LGBT youth.

Here’s video of Dayton’s remarks via Bluestem Prairie:

Are you kidding? God will punish us for this. Summers will become hotter, winters colder and severe weather more common. Entire towns will be destroyed by tornadoes and flooding. Animals will go extinct, agricultural regions will shift north and water tables will drop. Our very economy will collapse into a struggle of rich vs. poor! All because Minnesota tolerated same sex marriage. You just watch.

Praise Jebus, God hates logical consequences, Amen.

@PQ – Skepticism is justified, and we’ve got to keep politicians’ feet to the fire.

But cynicism isn’t justified. Progress is slow as hell, but it’s happening.

@progressively queer: are you serious? Marriage equality isn’t going to win most votes and he’s saying it in public, knowing it will be covered by media. Name a single other governor who had done this…

All of those governors are doing what they believe in as they either dont care about the consequeces or they dont think it is the wedge issue it used to be. Times have changed and you will see increased public support for equal marriage! Great work Mr. Dayton it takes courage to stand up for peoples rights!

This is not a religious issue. This is a CIVIL RIGHTS issue. This whole enterprise is simply to hoodwink the public. The five authors of this bill all are on the committee to get their budgets in alignment and the clock is ticking down to a few final days. Dayton knows this and has quietly scolded them on this.
But Mouse Dayton needs to ROAR! SUPPORT US DAYTON!
