Gingrich gets glitter-bombed by pro-gay protester

At a book signing in downtown Minneapolis on Tuesday, presidential candidate Newt Gingrich found himself covered in glitter. Gingrich was in town raising funds for the Minnesota Family Council along with fellow presidential contender Rep. Michele Bachmann. Prankster Nick Espinosa shouted, “Feel the rainbow, Newt,” as he poured glitter on the former Speaker of the House. “Stop the hate. Stop anti-gay politics. It’s dividing our country and it’s not fixing our economy,” Espinosa said.

It’s just one of several headline-grabbing stunts by Espinosa. Most famously, he dumped two thousand pennies on GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer last summer and challenged Emmer to a debate on immigration.

Here’s video of Tuesday’s incident:

Though Gingrich has been married three times, twice to women he cheated on previous wives with, he has criticized gay marriage and the LGBT movement. That prompted his sister, Candice who is a lesbian, to pen an open letter to him on Monday:

What really worries me is that you are always willing to use LGBT Americans as political weapons to further your ambitions. That’s really so ’90s, Newt. In this day and age, it’s embarrassing to watch you talk like that. You should be more afraid of the new political climate in America, because, there is no place for you in it.

In other words, stop being a hater, big bro.

Ok, ok, I admit it, I thought that was hillarious but in no way do I condone Espinosa’s actions. It is not helpful to your cause to physically “attack” your political enemies, no matter how innocent or funny it may be. The next person to try a stunt like this may include some substance that may actually harm the person and where will your movement be then?

It doesn’t surprise me that this blog supports this type of physical attack to further spread their hatred and lies against the truth. What a cowardly act. What a shame. This man must be deeply disturbed and should seek professional help, perhaps be put on watch by the FBI as people willing to commit these types of attacks usually get more and more bold.

What does not accomplish? It shows that the gay-lobby is the bully in the room. They are intolerant of anyone that agrees with nature in which male and female exist to form the definition of marriage since the beginning of time which can be found in every civilization. They are also intolerant of anyone that agrees with God as found in scripture, the creator of humanity and marriage. And because they are intolerant of God, it is God they truly hate. But what does hating God accomplish?

If God created man and man hates God, where does man go from there?

Carl,

I think you just gave Newt a new nickname. From now on I am going to try to get as many people as possible to refer to him as the “May Queen”.

Tim,

You sir, must have the mentality of a 2 year old, if not the education of one. Did you not read the story??? In no way did Andy support Nick’s actions. In no way did this blog support Nick’s actions. You sir have no validation in life other than your lies. Come back when you can form an argument like a big boy.

Tim, I love how you state the “truth” which you have read in a book, and assume is the truth because you choose to believe it. The bible is a book, written by men, and all events claimed to have happened, happened long before you were alive, so you can’t tell anyone that what your reading is the “truth” and that we are all wrong if we dint follow your truth. I read the “wizard of oz” but I don’t believe that the wicked witch is really flying around the munchkins somewhere over the rainbow… But if I did, I would not be angry cause everyone else in the world did not believe it. I think you need to chill, and realize everything is not so black and white!

Pssst… Saint Tim.

No one here, including the story’s author, has condoned the flinging of unwanted fairy dust. The extent religious zealots will go to rationalize their biases is staggering.

Newt Gingrich is almost as much of a laughing-stock as Donald Trump. But if the Republicans DO end up going off the deep end and nominating him for President, it will be very interesting to hear how he addresses Gay Americans in debates with Barack Obama.

He claims he is for “traditional marriage.” I want to ask him how allowing law-abiding, taxpaying Gay couples the same legal benefits that Straight couples have always taken for granted will affect anyone’s “traditional marriage.”

He says he supports the Defense of Marriage Act. I want to ask him how DOMA is possibly justifiable under the 14th Amendment and the “Full Faith & Credit” clause.

He says childen need a mother and a father. I want to ask him if he will prohibit single people and unmarried couples from adopting children, and whether he will deny marriage licenses to couples who either can’t or have no desire to have children.

He says marriage is “sacred.” I want to ask him when the United States became a theocracy … because it is not the purpose of government, nor of the Constitution, to make things “sacred.”

Carl and John I, don’t bother arguing with Tim. He’s one of these conservatives that goes into comment threads to hijack discussions by saying stupid things to change the subject and letting others waste their time responding. I suspect most of these guys don’t even come back to see if they got a response. The subject is the method of protest. Don’t waste time rebutting the notion writing about it constitutes approval.

First off, I agree with everyone here who denounces Espinosa’s pranks. In my view, they are childish and counterproductive. His actions can no more be attributed to Tim’s “gay-lobby” than the actions of Dr. Tiller’s murderer can be attributed to all Christians.

Second, if man created God and God hates man, where does God go from there?

I thought Mr. Gingrich handled it quite well. He praised living in a free country, right? He said, “It’s great living in a free country.” Meaning, in a country where freedom is not allowed, that would not have happened, ergo, “not great.” That is what he meant, right?

Tim’s probably right. Have you ever tried to get glitter out of your clothes? He might as well just throw that suit out. I’m sure Ol’ Newt will never recover from the horror of a ruined $1,000 suit. And, I mean, before you know it, this protester will start throwing piles of rose petals on people, then move on to cotton balls…who knows, he may even get his hands on some extremely dangerous duck feathers. Who will stand up and ensure that this glitter tossing MANIAC doesn’t assault another wealthy Washington insider? WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

This is so mature.
“Hey, I don’t agree with you so I’m going to harass you, disrupt your book signing, litter the location, and possibly ruin your suit!”
Yes. That really makes an intelligent point for gay marriage…

Alie – Where do you get off thinking that Newt’s suit is worth ONLY $1000? If you are going to post reckless comments like that, well, then I dont know what.

FWIW.

According to Gingrich’s press secretary Rick Tyler, Newt is a “Washington Outsider.” I mention this because religious zealots on these comment boards have begun referring to opponents of a religious state as Theocrats and opponents of the bullying of gay students as bullies themselves. Anti-Christ-like manipulations to be sure. The more honest these people are the more they will embarrass or even horrify their audience.

Praise Jebus, God hates a co-opted message, Amen.
