Wal-Mart, Salem radio dump Bradlee Dean
Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 2:43 pm
Wal-Mart and Salem Communications have severed ties with two entities run by pastor Bradlee Dean, who made headlines last week for a controversial prayer before the Minnesota House of Representatives. David Brauer reports that AM 1280 The Patriot, owned by Christian broadcaster Salem Communications, dropped Dean’s “Sons of Liberty” radio show, and Nick Pinto writes that Wal-Mart has told Dean’s ministry, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, that it can no longer fundraise in the parking lots of its Minnesota locations.
MinnPost’s Brauer notes that Dean was fired from AM 1280 before he gave his controversial speech before the House.
The station pulled Dean after he engaged in a six-minute song mocking African Americans and then likened President Obama to Osama bin Laden.
“For a minister to do that made no sense,” station manager Ron Stone told MinnPost.
Dean is in talks to move to Clear Channel owned KTLK, but that station says that Dean would have to make changes to his show.
City Pages’ Pinto spoke with Wal-Mart about the group’s fundraising activities in front of that retailer’s Minnesota locations, and Wal-Mart said that the ministry falsified information in its application to raise funds at the stores.
“They registered their request to solicit outside the store using a false name,” Walmart spokeswoman Ashley Hardie said. “As soon as we learned the group’s true identity, they were asked to leave.”
Word of Dean’s fundraising at Wal-Mart stores came to a head on Tuesday after Sally Jo Sorenson of Bluestem Prairie noticed them outside the Hutchinson Wal-Mart and attempted to ask ministry employees questions about their fundraising. The ministry refused to answer.

Leave it Bradlee Dean to try and recruit a bunch of Wal Mart shoppers.. Of course if I were trying to fish for the lowest forms of life on Earth I think the Wal Mart parking lot would be a great place to start.. Looks like Glen Beck needs a sailing partner to find the edge of our Flat Earth.. Go Bradlee Go !!

Now the BIG question is: Will Michele Bachmann dump Dean????
I’m on pins and needles just waiting to find out.
(I bet NO)

Ah, sun light. The great disinfectant.
Watch for more subtle and insidious forms of misinformation from the pro-amendment crowd now. Not a full display of their religious extremism nor a complete listing of their pseudo-science, because that would horrify Minnesotans, but just enough flag and cross to appeal to the uninformed.
Praise Jebus, God hates an honest messenger, Amen.

As of last Saturday, he still has his one-hour infomercial for “My War” on WUCW. If inclined, you can comment about that on their website or call them at 651-646-2300.

I am with you on that “No” bet..
Michele needs ALL of the nuts on the farm and Bradlee Dean is Mr. Peanut…

Minnesota needs to dump ALL of the extremist wingnuts including the MFC who has now been proven to push scientifically peer-repudiated KNOWN FALSEHOODS to purposefully misinform and demonize Minnesotans to further their own political agendas. This ISN’T Uganda folks. My bet is that Minnesotans don’t take kindly to being manipulated into turning on their fellow Minnesotans.

As the conservative movement becomes more extreme, businesses will increasingly be forced to choose between tax policy candidates and customers.
Currently, it is a battle between individual rights and liberties vs corporate interests and theocrats – but it is reaching the point where our very sovereignty is threatened by extreme conservatism.

I love your posts.. However TODAY’S Repubikan party hates science.. They could care less about Minnesotan’s especially if they’re gay or black or if they are liberal.. Today’s Nutball Fascisto Party thinks that GAWD HIMSELF has reached down from Heaven and PERSONALLY anointed them to spew HELLFIRE and Bia-Bull verses.. Using Gawds name for VANITY sake should be a sin… However today’s Republikan fruit loops have a happy marriage in Vanity and Gawd…..

It’s funny. I’m pretty sure LYING is way higher on the BIble’s lists of no-no’s than being gay. As in, it made the top ten no-no’s list. But that doesn’t seem to matter to the anti-gay Christians who lie endlessly in order to oppress gays.

Gex, their not christians, their dominionists, which is a “take over all things secular” cult. Beware Minnesota.

I’d never heard of dominionism until a few months ago, but after learning more about it, I feel it’s critical to educate the masses on the clear and present danger these whackjobs pose. 2 books I’d highly recommend are Jeff Sharlet’s “The Family:The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power” and “C-Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy”. Here’s a link to Jeff’s blog…http://jeffsharlet.blogspot.com/

MBS,
Dominionists are fare scarier than the Rapture types. The Dominionists want the laws changed to reflect their nutty ideas about “proper” Chrisian society. Look up a guy name Rousas John Rushdooney and be prepared to be scared.

That would be “far” scarier. Proofread, Scott, proofread.

I doubt Walmart can stop them, but I give them credit for trying. But not much credit. It’s not like this “preacher”‘s views were secret.
As for striking his “prayer” from the record, what’s the point of a record if it can be manipulated?

I complained both verbally and in writing to Walmart in Pine City three years ago and they were still there. I expressed my dislike for their organization then. To allow them to continue shows either their lack of research by Walmart management or their agreeing to what they preached. This echos our great legislator that invited Dean to do the prayer. I doubt it was lack of knowledge but agreement.

Just to head off the “Free Speech” folks who don’t understand the constitution at all, this is not a free speech issue. The constitution does not guarantee your right to a radio show or parking lot space at Wal Mart. The government cannot infringe on your right to babble hate, but a privately owned radio station or a privately owned retail store can certainly tell you to stfu and get off their property.

I think these folks better be wary of who they are calling pedophiles and poop-eaters of their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, neighbors, faith communities and friends here in Minnesota based on ideological quackery of CERTIFIED HATE GROUPS (FRC/AFA) and PEER_REPUDIATED 40 y/o distortions and mythology from the Freudian kook Paul Cameron. Let’s include those that echo and rewrite his twisted garbage and spread KNOWN FALSEHOODS about an entire class of people.
Minnesotans don’t like being manipulated and lied to, or about.

@ Bob N- WalMart can keep them off their property, which is a step in the right direction. It is one thing to have Scouts selling candy or cookies in front of the stores or groups raising money for disaster relief, but to have a hate group masquerading as a “church”, I would hope that all WalMarts would give them the boot!

Donn, since Walmart – Pine City chose not to follow through with your complaints, why not shame the store into finally taking action by writing a polite, but informative letter to the editor of the Pine City Pioneer focusing on Bradlee Dean seguing into the store’s inaction … Don’t hesitate to enlist the help of a staff member at Outfront MN in revising/editing that letter before sending it to the editor – which is what I did with my letter on what Gay Pride is that got published a few years ago. Keep that “movable middle” in mind at all times; they are ultimately the ones with the real power!

Bradlee Dean is now using this money to run a paid television program on WUCW – CW a local network in the Twin Cities. AKA The Twin Cities – TV To Talk About (that is for sure). The program appears to be aimed at children and features music videos. They request money and provide links to get more information about their extreme views. You can contact WUCW directly to let them know how foolish and offensive they are being by failing to vet their programming.
Mailing Address:
The CW Twin Cities – WUCW
1640 Como Ave.
St. Paul, MN 55108
Phone & Fax Numbers:
Phone: 651-646-2300
Fax: 651-646-122
You can also call Comcast at 1-800-COMCAST. When I contacted them they refused to even contact WUCW so they apparently are supporting the programming by failing to get involved. WUCW has a history of failing to vet their programming.

Liberals always ban things they do not like. They want to control everyone’s behavior and thoughts. Does it really matter to you what kind of light bulbs I use because you believe in a discredited “science”? Ed Schultz calls Laura Ingram a slut and that socialist pig gets a slap on the hand. Sorry liberals that your beloved Soviet Union collapsed. Get over it and let people live their life as they want.

Greg,
Not quite sure which planet you’re on. However WWTC dropped Bradlee Dean. It wes their, meaning Salem Communications, decision. While WUCW is welcome to take whatever programming they want, we are also welcome to let them know what we think about it.
As far as Ed Schultz goes, he appologized and took himself off the air for a week. Which is way more than Rush Limbaugh ever did for his cheap shot at Chelsea Clinton on his short lived TV show. Schultz is very controlled in his use of language, unlike Michael Savage or Mark Levin.
And sorry but climate change is quite the reality along with peak oil. Calling us names won’t change either fact.

Greg wrote, “Get over it and let people live their life (sic) as they want.”
Funny, one could say the same thing with respect to the myriad forms of social control pushed by our conservative legislature. And “discredited science?” Not even close. Or does Greg believe the fairy tales of youth? Luckily his type is going extinct, hopefully they won’t take us with them.
Praise Jebus, God hates difficult subjects, Amen.

Bradlee Dean and his entire congregation need to be investigated for fraud. They lied about what the donations were going towards, and while it is great that WalMart dropped them, that is NOT enough!
They are an extremist hate group that needs to be taken down!

Bradlee Dean was not dumped by either one of them. Where are you people getting your stories from?

I watched the video by Sally Jo Sorenson of Bluestem Prairie. It is a little spooky that I happen to be parked in my truck in the Wal Mart parking lot of Hutchinson MN. It feels a little weird being at the site where an older woman harassed a young man. I think she was attempting to make some one look ridiculous, or maybe malicious, maybe even a little unkind and threatening and possibly even a little unsafe or unstable.
I think it is safe to say she succeeded in making SOMEONE look that way.
You can watch it and decide who it was.

Sally Jo Sorenson of Bluestem Prairie, You told the young man you were doing a story on ministry, and that he was being interviewed for the press. Could you please post a link to your story on ministry here so that I can find it and read it. Thank you.
