Bachmann again tops Iowa caucus poll, Pawlenty stagnant

Yet another Iowa poll of likely caucus-goers has shown Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann with a small lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The poll, which was done by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research between July 5-7, is the second in a row to detail Bachmann’s ascent to the top of the Republican pack in the state.

Results among likely Republican caucus-goers:

*This portion of the poll has a 5.7 percent margin of error.

The poll also shows Romney with a very small 3-percent lead over President Barack Obama among all the state’s voters, although the margin of error for that question is more than Romney’s lead. A matchup between Bachmann and Obama gave the president a slight edge of 5 percent over the Minnesota congresswoman.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty continued to stagnate in the single digits, although he remains in distant third place.

In the survey, Iowa voters across the political spectrum said the most important issue for the next president will be to strengthen the economy and create jobs.
