The thrust of the McCain campaign’s plan for gaffe-proofing its standard-bearer is to make sure his only unscripted press exposure is with local newspapers and TV stations. (And, where Sarah Palin is concerned, to warn all comers that “respect and deference” are due.)
It’s a plan that’s served them well, but occasionally it backfires. As in this clip of a McCain interview by Rob Caldwell of WCSH-TV in Portland, Maine, the local NBC affiliate. If a network news hand got so rough with McCain, there would be censure and possibly demotion in his/her future. [Via Americablog]

Great Interview!
I know McCain must have been counting down the seconds until he could tell Rob he'll never work in this business again. Is there any way I can send him an e-mail telling thank you for being a journalist? I'm from GA, but I know when to give credit where credit is due.

It's hard to believe McCain is a national candidate. What a pitiful performance.

There's enough footage here to make a new Obama campaign commercial every day until election day.
Thanks, Grampy!
And, thank Caribou Barbie for me, too.

So glad to see this get passed around. I saw it here in Portland, and thought the reporter did a great job.
