Video: Bachmann aims for straw poll in new ad

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann released an ad today that focuses on building her support for the Iowa Straw Poll in mid-August.

The ad highlights Bachmann’s strong opposition to raising the debt ceiling, which passed Congress this week.

“I voted against raising the debt limit because it’s time to balance the budget and pay down the debt,” Bachmann says in the video. “I mean it, and you can believe it.”

The ad, which will run statewide starting today, ends with a request to join Bachmann in Ames for the straw poll on Aug. 13.

Bachmann has recently soared in polls of likely Republican caucus-goers, even taking the lead over Romney in Iowa. But the Iowa Straw Poll is often viewed as a test of organization to see whether campaigns are actually able to mobilize and transport voters to Ames. Bachmann faces former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Ron Paul, who have both poured money and resources into their straw poll efforts.

The Fix blog at the Washington Post gives Bachmann a 3-1 chance to win the state, as our sister site the Iowa Independent pointed out.

I oppose Michele Bachmann. Her past voting record indicates she is nothing more than a “big government” Republican. She voted for the TARP bailout. She has only changed her position to get in line with the Tea Party. She won’t do what she proposes because she won’t consider cuts to military, which is the only thing that a President can do immediately. Our military adventurism has gone too far and is part of the spending problem. I am voting Ron Paul.

MB IS A TIME AND TRUE PROVEN PATHOLOGICAL LIAR

1. Exaggerates things that are ridiculous.
2. One-upping. Whatever you do, this person can do it better. You will never top them in their own mind, because they have a concerted need to be better than everyone else. This also applies to being right. If you try to confront an individual like this, no matter how lovingly and well-intentioned you might be – this will probably not be effective. It’s threatening their fantasy of themselves, so they would rather argue with you and bring out the sharp knives than admit that there’s anything wrong with them.
3. They “construct” a reality around themselves. They don’t value the truth, especially if they don’t see it as hurting anyone. If you call them on a lie and they are backed into a corner, they will act very defensively and say ugly things (most likely but depends on personality), but they may eventually start to act like, “Well, what’s the difference? You’re making a big deal out of nothing!” (again, to refocus the conversation to your wrongdoing instead of theirs).
4. Because these people don’t value honesty, a lot of times they will not value loyalty. So watch what you tell them. They will not only tell others, but they will embellish to make you look worse. Their loyalty is fleeting, and because they are insecure people, they will find solace in confiding to whomever is in their favor at the moment.
5. They may be somewhat of a hypochondriac. This can come in especially useful when caught in a lie, for example, they can claim that they have been sick, or that there’s some mysteriously “illness” that has them all stressed out. It’s another excuse tool for their behavior.
6. Obviously, they will contradict what they say. This will become very clear over time. They usually aren’t smart enough to keep track of so many lies (who would be?).

Minnisota Rep Michele Bachman and her Tea Party Group is willing to destroy our Country to get a republican President in office.
The Unemployment has been increased by the bought and paid for republican Govenors. Now they refuse to refund the FFA,
They hels our country hostage like terrioests to get their way.
Please note China downgraded our rating due mainly to their lack of faith in our Government after they watched the republicans getting their way by using Terriorest tactics.
Watch for the Republican Taliban to emerge if they are not stopped. These right wing people that clain to be christians make me ill. The bible states clearly we are to help the poor and ill not the wealthy.
The greatest insult is having a Congressman that refuses to support his children making decisions for our country makes me so angery ,I raised 4 children working 2 and 3 jobs at atime due to a deadbeat that refused to support his children,
These people are living off our tax money but we that are retired after working hard planning on Social Security wonder every day will next months check arrive and will we still have our medicare.
This must be stopped
