Bachmann takes in ‘ex-gay’ presentation at Iowa church

MSNBC reports that Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus attended a church service in Des Moines, Iowa, over the weekend that included an ex-gay presentation. Bachmann, who built her political career in Minnesota fighting against rights for LGBT people, has blown off reporters’ questions about her views on LGBT rights and about evidence that her husband’s counseling clinic which performs “ex-gay” therapy.
The Bachmanns attended a church service at Point of Grace Church on Sunday which featured a presentation by Pastor Jeff Mullen.
Reading verses from the Bible to support his case, Mullen said, “We inherently know that homosexual behavior is immoral and unnatural.”
“God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,” Mullen said, reading from the book of Romans.
Mullen’s sermon concluded with video testimonial from a man named Adam Hood, who claims to have been gay before experiencing a conversation with God. “I am so happy God has given me natural affection for a woman,” Hood said in the video, adding that his wife is nine months pregnant.
“We need to have compassion for people that are bound by that sin,” Hood added. “And it is a sin. Call a spade a spade.”
But Bachmann has been avoiding her long record of opposing LGBT rights.
“I’m not involved in light, frivolous matters,” Bachmann told reporters last week when asked about marriage rights for same-sex couples. “I’m not involved in fringe or side issues. I’m involved in serious issues.”
Bachmann has repeatedly declined to discuss the issue of “ex-gay” therapy or opposition to same-sex marriage. On the latter, Bachmann was a champion during her time in the Minnesota Senate, calling it an “earthquake issue” and likening the legalization of same-sex marriage to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Bachmann’s have also dodged reporters questions about whether their counseling clinic performs therapy intended to change gay people straight through the power of Jesus Christ.

Big Hair Bad Makeup Bachmann is no longer involved with frivolous matters. Good news if it were true. We’ll see if she embraces the life of her step-sister.

Michelle Bachman wants to be presidenty of the free world…and yet she wants to take away rights from citizens. Her thinking is along the lines of Hitler..pure hatred..She is NO Christian..in short just evil..I am ashamed that she is a Republican.

It’s a clear and classic case of how humans take a religion and then weaponize it to create a fear-based “Us Against Them” attitude. These are also the practices that CULTS use on their victims-memebers.
Bigots love to cling to doctrine that makes them think they are superior than other people. Then you get megalomaniac fanatics like Bachmann who lie their way into government to try and force these outdated, tired religious laws into government laws. The sad thing is that most Christian’s are good people who aren’t interested in forcing other peaceful people into religion. Another sad thing is that Christian’s don’t realize that the current Bible has been revised like over 20 times and isn’t totally in line with the original Hebrew version… that doesn’t even have the world ‘Homosexual’ in it.

Wow. The Bachmanns are so crazy anti-gay, it really makes me wonder. You have to wonder about people who have “gay” on the mind 24/7. I think there are real things that actually effect the lives of the other 98 percent of us, Michele. You and Marcus are way too wrapped up in this whole gay thing. (Psssst: {whispering} one might assume you and Marcus are self-hating homosexuals. It’s about the only thing that explains your obsessions.)

Maybe she could benefit from some “ex-Representative” therapy.

Several members of the congregation were not happy, when, in front of their friends and neighbors, Marcus tried to give them one his business cards following the sermon.

Michele Bachmann and her husband are both very far out. Not good for the U.S. She is running on her own “gay agenda” platform. We are closing schools, laying people off. Family’s are being foreclosed on and being put out in the streets. And all this Republican running for President and her husband can do is talk about is “praying away the gay”. It is a good money maker for her, but we have bigger things to do, and I am hopping God has to. If you or your church has the gay agenda on your mind, all the time you may need to set down and talk with someone. We need to start looking at what is best for the country. Not our own religion’s views, that blow in the wind.

She knows her virulent anti-gay attacks will not play well with most Americans. She is running from these gay issues as fast as she can. The media and voters can not let her get away with this. She is a bald face liar once again. If she were given the chance this issue and abortion would quickly rise to the top of her list.

I guess when all those gays aren’t busy being “married” and “having stable relationships”, then they’ll be out there, working hard to create jobs.
Right?

“[O]ne might assume you and Marcus are self-hating homosexuals.”
Wasn’t there a profile of Rep. Bachmann a few years back in which she said Marcus picks out her wardrobe for her?

@Jonathan Hackman I hope its thoughts like yours that change the GOP. I might never agree with the economics and political system as a true GOP but I crave the day where we can debate the real issues, and not what people do in their bedrooms. And especially the day that comes where religious indoctrination is not the private special interest agenda.

“God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,”
Well, looks like the Republicans and Tea Baggers are in pretty deep sh#% with God. Isn’t that what they’ve been doing all these past years?

The ad hominem attacks against Bachmann by the media jackals have boomeranged against the Left and hugely helped Bachmann.

Whenever the press attacks Bachmann, she “gets a flood of support and money. She becomes ‘Every Woman,’ a misunderstood Tea Party mother of five facing down an elitist, arrogant, Obama-leaning press corps.” The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.
8/2/11 Rasmussen Poll: Romney 44% vs. Bachmann 42% in a two-way race.

Hang on to that thought, Charles. Come back and visit when Ms Weirdo is back behind the bushes wringing her hands in exasperation. Perhaps then you can console her and Marcus.

Most of Bachmann’s positions have a disturbing logic or frightening reason. She is a Christian extremist who willfully ignores our Constitution while inserting its hostile and angry agenda. I suspect her wake up call when present itself in due time.

@ Charles, you’re stats of the Holy Roller vote show us what? That the loyal Bushies are undecided on who will take dominion over the government mountain??? Zzzzz
Michelle Bachmann has been attacking people, history and the Constitution for years. Par for the course though is your accusation of ad hominem attacks, her victimization but then you rifle off at least 3 in one lil paragraph.
That, is projecting. It is typical and pathetic. Every woman my ass.
