Palin personifies the American democratic ideal that "My opinion is more valuable than your knowledge and expertise." People don't want leaders who are better than themselves, they want leaders who are most like themselves. This makes them feel in control and worthy by proxy. Those who voted for Bush the cowboy and NASCAR dude will vote for Palin the pregnant hockey mom who juggled a job, hormonal teens and church bake sales.
