Chick-fil-A to bring chicken sandwiches, anti-gay track record to Minneapolis

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reported on Friday that Chick-fil-A, a southern-style chicken sandwich franchise, is planning on expanding its reach into the Twin Cities market by 2013. Chick-fil-A has come under scrutiny and some protest for donating considerable resources to anti-gay causes, including to organizations labeled hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Company spokeswoman Brenda Morrow confirmed to the Journal that the company is making plans for an expansion into the Twin Cities. “Minneapolis is slated as one of our major markets for growth for where we’d like to see Chick-fil-A go,” she said. “We don’t anticipate anything for this year or next year.”
Since 2003, Chick-fil-A has given more than $1 million to anti-gay groups including the Family Research Council and the Alliance Defense Fund, according to a report by Equality Matters. The report also noted that Chick-fil-A terminates employees the restaurant chain views as “sinful,” has partnered with Focus on the Family, and its charitable foundation, WinShape, holds programs to “promote a biblical standard of marriage.”
WinShape has also thrown financial support to the National Organization for Marriage, a group that has been very active in the campaign in Minnesota to amend the state constitution to bar same-sex marriage.
Chick-fil-A has dodged questions about its ties to anti-gay groups. In a statement the company said, “Our Chick-fil-A Operators and their employees try very hard every day to go the extra mile in serving ALL of our customers with honor, dignity and respect.”
Students at at least six colleges and universities have launched efforts to get the restaurant chain removed from campus.

“…Students…have lunched efforts…” LOL! Fun typo!
P.S. Chik-fil-A has been here for quite a while. They have a store at the student union at the University.

They’ll go the extra mile every day to get your money. Then they’ll use that money to make sure you’re a second class citizen forever – all in the name of “god.” Lovely. Now that’s a religion I want to be part of.

Minnesota isn’t in any short supply of poor quality fast food places to keep Minnesotans over weight, sluggish and a health liability to companies. No wonder jobs are going overseas.

Minimum wage jobs vs civil rights. It is an offense against democracy that the question even arises.
We need to stop treating artificial persons like actual citizens.

Zera… just curious as to who the ‘artificial persons’ are in your mind? Do you realize that robots are being developed right now to be sold to take over minimum wage jobs?

Way to go Chick-fil-A, for having the guts to stick up for what’s right. Always admired their lack of corporate greed for not opening on Sunday. I’ll plan to eat there more often.

There’s already a Chik-Fil-A in Coffman at the U of M… It’s gross. Tried it once.

“Since 2003, Chick-fil-A has given more than $1 million to anti-gay groups including the Family Research Council and the Alliance Defense Fund,” Bigots and unhealthy food – what’s not to dislike?
Joe, go ahead and eat there, you deserve your fate.

I hadn’t heard of Chick-fil-A’s anti-gay stance before this. The only time I had heard of the company was through their underwriting of “Arthur” on PBS.
You may recall the fury a few years back when a spin-off of “Arthur” profiled a family with two mothers.

I think the Southern Poverty Law Center should come under protest and scrutiny for being bullies. Businesses have the right to support whatever causes they believe in NOT just the ones The Southern Poverty Law Center approves.

I promise I won’t give Chik-Fil-A my filthy queer money.

“Businesses have the right to support whatever causes they believe . . .” Absolutely. Similarly, I have the right to withhold my support from businesses that support causes in which I do not believe.
No one said the right to speak out comes without consequences.

I am so proud of Chick-fil-A and what they stand for. They stick to their guns, and stand for Biblical truth… and great chicken. I know a lot of people who would LOVE to see them expand to Minnesota! Great news.

cool… wonder if they’ll support the kind of “gay marriage” that Michelle and Marcus have… LOL Honestly, if Michelle was your sister, would you let her marry that closet case… or is he just “ex”gay?

Why do I have the feeling some of Betty Rubble’s forebears thought lynchings were good clean family fun?

So a company with a good product wants to come to Minnesota, open some stores and employ people and you want to stand in the way because the owners have a different point of view on gay marriage? I was actually neutral on gay marriage, but if you’re going to try and establish litmus tests for businesses and law firms, like you did with Target and King & Spalding I can quickly move to the “against” column. People need jobs and companies looking to expand in Minnesota is a good thing. After Barney Frank screwed up the economy with the housing collapse the least you people could do when others are trying to invest in the economy is shut the $%^## up.

Eric makes a nice attempt to sound sort of middle of the road and then utterly blows by making a flat out false claim in his last sentence.
I am also curious if he would have no issues with businesses run by the KKK coming to MN as long as they provide jobs.

Sean, KKK would only give it out to the white, so lets get real here…. HELLO!
