Bachmann dodges questions on anti-gay record
Monday, August 15, 2011 at 8:11 am
Rep. Michele Bachmann was grilled by the hosts of several Sunday morning talk shows about her views on gay and lesbian Americans. When pressed about her past statements about LGBT issues, she repeated “I am running for the presidency of the United States,” several times in lieu of answering the question. “I’m not anyone’s judge.”
On Meet the Press, host David Gregory played Bachmann’s now-famous quote from 2004 where she said, “Your involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement. And that is why it’s so dangerous. It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan to say this is gay. It’s anything but gay.”
Bachmann responded to her own quote by saying, “Well, I am running for the presidency of the united states. I’m not running to be anyone’s judge.”
Gregory pressed her. “But you have judged them.”
“I don’t judge them, I don’t judge them. I am running for presidency of the United States,” she said.
Gregory asked, “Is that the view of gay Americans that President Bachmann would have?”
Bachmann changed the subject: “My view on marriage is that marriage is between a man and a women. That’s what I stand for, but I ascribe honor and dignity to every person no matter what their background. They have honor and they have dignity.”
Gregory tried yet again to get an answer from Bachmann. “Do you think gay Americans hearing quotes like that from you would think that’s honor and dignity coming from you about their circumstances?”
“I’m not anyone’s judge,” she responded.
Gregory asked, “Do you think anyone hears that and thinks you haven’t made a judgment about gays and lesbians?”
“That’s all I can tell you is that I’m not judging.”
Again Gregory pressed her. “So your words should stand for themselves.”
Bachmann repeated, “I’m running fr the presidency of the United States. That’s what is important.”
Later, Gregory changed the subject slightly and Bachmann again balked on answering the question.
“Can a gay couple who adopts children be considered a family?”
Bachmann said, “When it comes to marriage and family, my opinion is that marriage is between a man and a woman. i think that’s been my view. All of these kind of questions are not really about what people are concerned about right now.”

ABC’s This Week contained a similar exchange.
TAPPER: One last question I wanted to ask about. You once characterized homosexuality as, quote, “personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement.” Do you believe that?
BACHMANN: Well, I am running to be the president of the United States. I am not running to be any person’s judge. And I give — I ascribe dignity and honor to all people, no matter who they are. And that’s how I view people.
TAPPER: So you would appoint an openly gay or lesbian person to your administration?
BACHMANN: I would look, first of all, will they uphold the Constitution of the United States? And, number two, are they competent to do what they need to do? And are they the best at who they are? That’s my criteria, nothing more.
And on CNN’s State of the Union host Candy Crowly asked if Bachmann would reinstate the Armed Forces’ ban on openly serving LGBT Americans.
“The ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy has worked very well,” Bachmann said. “I would be in consultation with our commanders, but I think, yes, I probably would” reinstate the ban.
Crowley also asked about Iowa and same-sex marriage.
“I think it’s more important that people have the right to weigh in on the laws they choose to live under,” Bachmann. “What I don’t like is judges legislating from the bench and as President of the United States, I will appoint judges who uphold the constitution and who don’t see themselves as a super legislature. That was the problem here in Iowa. That’s why people here in Iowa did not retain their three judges. They were very offended that three judges substituted their opinions for the will of the people.”
She added, “I think that sent a very loud and clear signal.”

If one follows MB’s line of logic about letting the voters decide on this issue then one has to ask:
What will you do if the voters of MN decide they’re fine with gay folks marrying?
That’s one scenario wing-nuts like MB can’t imagine but one that I hope comes true. We will have to put up with a lot of bleating about “Sodom and Gomorrah” but eventually they would begin to see that the folks they cast as “demons” are just your average everyday Americans who happen to be gay.

Michele Bachmann is a disturbed, attention-starved, ignorant, anti-American bigot who does not in any way, shape or form deserve to be President of the U.S.

The lame scream media plays the ‘gay card’ as if this lifestyle is the majority of American voters first choice. Of course the looney tune left will pull the ‘gay card, the race card, the poor card, the downtrodden worker card, the union card. all from a loaded deck, while bashing the political opposition with name calling and racially offensive rhetoric. The left’s biggest enemy? The truth.

Banderman,
Gays, people with racial identities, poor people, workers, union members: All these people allegedly playing “cards” go by another name in a representative democracy — Constituents. So tell us, which “card” do you represent?

Bachmann cannot take responsibility for anything she has said.
When you lie about people, about things, you have to remember what you said.
And running for political office, or holding any political office, she will be reminded about what she had said, every day.
She’s not even fit for the office of dog catcher.

Jeremy, have you ever even met a gay person? I would bet you work with at least one gay person, maybe even have one in your extended family just based on statistics. Some gay people don’t even realize they are gay until later in life and are married, have a family, pay taxes, hold a salaried job, and take part in their communities. I guess that doesn’t describe an “every day American.” And you can’t even say that it’s a conspiracy by “liberal fascists” to push this moral indecency because there are many, many gay republicans too. You are just a bigot and your opinions will be outweighed by the recent majority of Americans who think gays should be allowed to marry. Though, as an American you have every right to whine about gays in your trailer while you beat your barefoot pregnant wife out in bumf*ck, the world goes on..

She has enormous difficulty answering many of these questions honestly or at all. The turnover in her staff is a result of not being able to work with such a loose cannon in the toxic environment she thrives on – these are experienced staff that once supported her, now speaking on record about her reckless actions. Her extreme and tortured logic is alarming.

Banderman– there isn’t a “gay card” and there is no gay “lifestyle.” Just people, like you, who did not get to choose their sexuality, trying to live life in peace.People who pay taxes, and abide by the laws that deserve to have equal rights under the constitution that some people apparently take for granted and use for smear campaigns against your neighbors. If you can tell me when you chose your sexuality, I will think about not seeing you as a very confused and hateful individual.

Michele Bachmann, an idiot, is perpetually hoist on her own petard. She was the only woman who signed the NOM pledge, which calls for the signer to appoint only federal judges and attorneys general who won’t let gay people marry each other and who “strictly” interpret the Constitution according to its original meaning. Of course, originally the Constitution didn’t allow for appointing female judges or attorneys general – (and never mind black people) – so why in the world did this dummy sign that document? Why should anybody trust a moron who would sign such a stupid thing as the NOM pledge? And exactly why does this drooling fool Bachmann favor re-instating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell? Does she have inside information that the Joint Chiefs of Staff don’t have, showing that allowing out gay people to serve in the US military will compromise national security? If so, how certain is this jerky bigot of how great a threat gay people are to a country’s military? Israel’s military has out gay soldiers. Would a President Bachmann require Israel to have DADT policy in order for that country to continue receiving US support? Who knows with this stupid bigot? Who knows? A bigot is by definition vicious. For Bachmann to say she would reinstate DADT is a vicious attack against gay Americans.

If the American electorate is too blind and/or brainwashed to see that Bachmann simply avoids questions that she doesn’t want to answer–and that she’s certifiably loony–then this country will deserve the havoc and destruction that a Bachmann presidency would wreak upon this nation. Look into her eyes, people: it looks like the Village of the Damned or something in there! God help us, because a religious bigot like Bachmann sure won’t. (However, Marcus would make a great First Lady.)

Ron, you make me laugh. Thanks! I look at her expression and think STEPFORD WIFE.
She is a fake and massive fraud along with a proven track record of PATHOLOGICAL LIES. She just proved in the interview that she has no real substance to offer America or any list of true accomplishments to be POTUS. Candy was wonderful with her questioning and keeping to the issues.
It’s honestly an example of how flawed the system is that anyone like Bachmann has come this far, politically. The system is WAY too much like a popularity contest. C’mon people this isn’t AMERICAN IDOL rubbish. This is a position to work for the betterment of the MAJORITY of AMERICANS… not just the Big Business or wealthy.
Obama is doing fine with the train-wreck he inherited. Unless China or India has a massive extinction, America simply won’t go back to the way it was with economic growth. Those days are clearly slipping away.

Besides I have a 1.00 bet on it.

It is counterproductive for the gay community to create a powerful enemy when Bachmann has no animus at all against gays. Her step-sister is lesbian. However, Bachmann is unalterably opposed to having unelected judges imposing their will on States.
She also said she wouldn’t dismiss out of hand an openly gay or lesbian person as a member of a Bachmann administration, saying she would look for two things: Whether nominees would uphold the U.S. Constitution and whether they were competent.
At the Ames Iowa debate, Congresswoman Bachmann remained the little lady with a spine of titanium, whose unshakable principles defended her against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. The hostile media has done its utmost to bring her down, but to no avail. She has emerged unscathed, smiling triumphantly, seemingly frail but in fact fearless, with an almost martial strength, so that she is now a match for all her political foes–on the Right as well as on the Left.

“Any of you who have members of your family that are in the lifestyle—we have a member of our family that is. This is not funny. It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay. It’s anything but gay.”

For anyone that keeps up the idea of “family light” alternatives would do well to look at the immorality of this attitude will be the decay of the family. For until there is equality and civil justice done, my straight marriage will not mean the same.

No, Derek. She actually said Bachmann actually said she would look for THREE things, not two. Did you forget the third – that they had to have the same views as her? So, yes, I suppose a president Bachmann could appoint a gay person who believes that gays are part of Satan!

Bachmann on gays: “I don’t judge them … but God will when He sends those abominations to hell for all eternity!”
Comment posted August 16, 2011 @ 9:29 pm
First of all, to say Bachmann is “anti-gay” or has an “anti-gay” record is a smear attempt and is intellectually dishonest. She is not anti-gay, she is opposed to gay marriage, that is a huge difference. If one is anti-gay, that means they are opposed to guys period, like they feel they should be jailed or shot, like they do in Muslim countries. That is not what she’s about.
Secondly, the smear attempts by the far-left toward Michelle have gone overboard on the gay issue, as she merely believes what the vast majority of Americans believe (including King Obama himself), and that is that marriage should be between one man and one woman. The loud obnoxious gay activists, are a tiny minority, but with their willing shills in the left-wing (so-called mainstream) media, they have screamed loud enough to make this such an issue (when it is not). The people of this country don’t believe the definition or term “marriage” should be opened up to anyone/anything, just because loud activists start screaming.
Lastly, she is entitled to her opinion and she is entitled to more respece from the retarded left-wing such as David Gregory and idiots like him that continue to try to protect the president from his horrible record while making the Republican’s personal views out to be the sole important line of questioning.
Comment posted August 16, 2011 @ 9:35 pm
By the way, couple more things…all you left-wing posters are claiming she’s not answering the question, yet your bashing her for her answers. Talk about trying to have it both ways. She has said she believes marriage is between one man and one woman. ..that’s her answer, what more do you simple-minded, dumbed-down, mentally challenged excuses for people, want?
Lastly, if you”re upset about this perception you have of her not answering a question, how about turning your attention to President Obungles, who not only can NEVER answer a question, but he doesn’t even allow the question to be posed in the first place. You folks are the biggest bunch of hypocrits I’ve ever seen. Anyone defending Pres Obungles after what he’s done to this country is just completely assinine.

Your complete disrespect of President Obama is palpable (look it up). It makes me wonder if you seethe with contempt because of his policies or just because he is GWB. (Governing While Black). Keep up that living in denial thing—you’re in your own little world.

She did NOT answer the questions, and that question wasn’t if she believed that marriage is one woman one man or if she will support ss marriage. The questions were on her hate speech, on her ties to Hate actions. Which is a crime by the way in this country. Her ties to therapy that is not supported by any credited medical association in the country. Her one only line is that she isn’t running to be anyone’s judge. But her actions, speech and statements all have gone over the line of judging. Not to mention that she would only appoint judges that will judge along her lines of thinking which has been labeled as hate.
Perhaps you think that hate and prejudice is ok for a leader, but I do not.
Not to mention, one can never know what her actual answer is, since she is subservient to her husband. Who is the direct link to criminal actions.
Comment posted August 19, 2011 @ 10:53 am
Not only has she NOT answered the question, she speaks one way in the media and acts directly in the opposite way. She says she is only interested in economics and serious issues at hand, but there isn’t a religious summit she does not attend, not a anti-gay pledge she does not sign, or an ex-gay presentation she doesn’t help run.
If she is NON judging non of these things would be going on in her life. I do NOT see her heading up an economic summit, or a produce more job presentation, or sign a create more job pledge.

I agree with Marie, Actions speak louder than words, and this is something that applies to all people not just politicians. Look at what people do, and not what they say. MB actions do not match her words, I dont even know if that can be debated, but how many other elected officials fall into that category? Regardless of which side of the isle you support, Does your Rep falsely represent themselves as a fiscal politician, or a social politician?
