Joe Arwood to challenge Klobuchar in 2012
Monday, August 22, 2011 at 12:53 pm
St. Bonifacius city council member Joe Arwood announced on Monday that he will soon file paperwork to challenge Sen. Amy Klobuchar for the U.S. Senate.
Arwood, a conservative, is seeking the Republican nomination and says he’ll hold a press conference in St. Bonifacius on Monday night. Arwood has little political experience, and he’s the second announced candidate in the race. Former state Rep. Dan Severson announced his campaign in May.
On Twitter, Arwood describes himself as a “Small government Constitutional conservative first time Senate Canidate [sic]. Running so that our freedom and prosperity can be resotred [sic].”
Arwood doesn’t yet have a campaign website, but he shares some of his views on Twitter. Here’s one example: “Why does the left never call for evil actors to pay their fair share? They only think CEO’s are evil. Liberal Hollywood pay up sucka!”
And another: “Pres Obama cleared his schedule for today. Hold on to your wallet”
In a press release from his campaign, Arwood described why he is running:
our Country is in trouble, and we need people with common sense solutions to be leaders. We the people need to take our Country back from the political class that has established obscene pay and perks for themselves, while at the same time kicking the economic and Social Security can down the road. We need to get the economy going again, people are hurting out there, and Government seems to be standing in the way, or at least on a collective break. Here we are in the middle of a huge unemployment crisis, while the President is on vacation, and Congress is on break. Why are we not in session discussing the possibilities of a simpler tax code that would close the loop holes, lower taxes for companies that want to invest here at home, rather than abroad? Why are we not looking at our regulations that are preventing us from being energy independent? Why are we not allowing struggling families to tap into their 401K, by removing the 10% penalty, to save their homes and the housing market as a whole?? This ‘uncommon Joe’ is ready to run towards the financial fire, put it out, roll up his sleeves to help get us going again.
Arwood has his work cut out for him if he hopes to beat the popular Klobuchar. In June, Public Policy Polling released survey results showing that Klobuchar would beat Severson by 28 points. In hypothetical matchups, Klobuchar also handily beat out Tim Pawlenty (by 12 points) and Michele Bachmann (by 20 points); neither are running. “Amy Klobuchar looks like a shoo-in at this point,” said PPP president Dean Debnam at the time.

Well, let’s put it this way: If he runs and raises a little money and spends a little money in the process, it’s good for the economy.

This repug clown sounds like a (dys)functional illiterate. I’m sure he’ll be a fine representative of the regressive mentality, and will doubtless prove himself to be a very interesting candidate for the Senate of the United States. Hey Joe, here’s a little free advice, for what it’s worth: buy a dictionary and/or learn to use spellcheck if you’re going to run for a national office.

Can someone, maybe some of you righties that comment here, please enumerate the “freedoms” we have lost the last four years that need to be restored. Thank you in advance for being specific and straight forward. I will even give you a sentence starter:
Since Obama has become president, we have lost the freedom to ___________.
Thank you for fighting to restore all the freedoms Obama has taken away.

Restore our prosperity? Like what we had in the 90s, before the Repubs took it away?

This guy running for US Senate is a joke. Not only is he seriously under-qualified, he only cares about the greater good when it benefits him. God help us if anyone takes him seriously. This is his latest whim on a laundry list of “things I want to do when I grow up”-Pastor UFC Fighter, firefighter, etc etc.

Jill I am glad you know me so well. Funny thing is I don’t know you. I wasn’t aware being a volunteer fire fighter was such a bad thing. Next time you need one it will most likely be a volunteer like I was. Keep in mind the vast majority of fire fighters in Minnesota are volunteers and it takes a ton of time. I gave up serving the people of St. Boni at the fire dept. to serve on the City Council.

Not a chance. We need an authentic candidate that “represents” this district to unseat Klobuchar.

We can add “reading comprehension” to the list of things Joe doesn’t do well.

Not likely to happen. Amy has been very solid in dealing with the concerns of the majority of Minnesota constituents. There is a reason why she is currently the most popular office holder in the state.

Well, for people who do not know Joe he is a very agressive and a enthusiastic person, I see nothing wrong with the positions he has held, seems to me he wants to be part of the commuinty and help people. Maybe he doesn’t have the millions to run for office like Amy, but also he doesn’t have to buy votes either (why does it take millions to run for office). I am not a Dem or Rep but maybe people should know the person before they make a decision, you may find some you like. Maybe thats wants wrong with this country, everyone jumps conclusions and knows everthing before they listen and know what they stand for. Go Joe!

Dear Readers,
I would first like to point out that the majority of you stating that Joe should use spell check, have misspelled words of your own. Secondly, I have met Joe and he is a man with a kind and genuine heart. He does not “only care about the greater good when it benefits him.” His actions and comments remain the same whether it be in his personal best interest or not.
One of the biggest problems today is that people tend to judge before they know whom they are judging.

Ok, so you want candidates to have a web site, before they tell anyone they are running. Mr Arwood announced his run, raised some money, and then launched a web site for his campaign….sounds like he is fiscally responsible.
Oh, and to answer some other questions/comments…
- Rusty – she doesn’t represent a district, she represents the entire state.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost the freedom to get student loans from private banks, now we only have one choice…the Federal Government.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost the freedom to choose our own health care provider and determine whether or not we even want health insurance.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost the freedom to not fund abortions through our tax dollars.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost the due process of law, since we just smoked an American in Yeman.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost the freedom to travel on an air plane without being scanned/x-rayed.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost search and seizure rights, now our driveways are not ours, they can search the vehicles on them without warrant.
- Since Obama has become president, we have lost our rights to our e-mails, they can be searched at anytime…
