Catholics, NOM register PACs for marriage amendment battle

The Minnesota Catholic Conference, the policy wing of Minnesota’s Catholic bishops, and the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) have registered political action funds (PACs) with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board. The two funds join the Minnesota Family Council Marriage Protection Fund in hopes of raising money to convince voters to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

The PACs will allow the groups to raise money for political activity surrounding the 2012 ballot initiative. NOM’s PAC is registered in Washington, D.C., under the name of the group’s president Brian Brown. The Minnesota Catholic Conference was registered by that group’s head, Jason Adkins.

In addition to NOM, MCC and MFC, the Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign has registered a fund to defeat the amendment.

Other groups have registered ballot initiative campaigns, including It’s Personal to Me Campaign, a north Minneapolis group; Minnesota For Marriage, a coalition of MCC, MFC and NOM; Minnesotans United for All Families, the main coalition in opposition to the amendment; OutFront Minnesota Marriage Equality, the state’s largest LGBT advocacy organization; and Republicans Against the Minnesota Marriage Amendment.

All of these funds could be going to help the poor in these very hard times. Shame on you folks who profess to love Jesus and then spend all of your time stirring up hate against your gay brothers and sisters.

There is vital medical research that needs funding, but can’t get it, or in the following case, almost didn’t get it:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44090512/ns/health-cancer/t/new-leukemia-treatment-exceeds-wildest-expectations/

There are kids going hungry tonight in the state.

Wives are being beaten by their husbands but have nowhere to go to escape.

Thousands a day die in developing countries due to preventable and treatable illness.

Etc., Etc.

And these organizations feel it necessary to form a PAC to enshrine discrimination against gays and lesbians into the law.

What a sickening inversion of values.

Seriously? Talk about hate and anger and war. These people are NOT CHRISTIAN PEOPLE. Period. They lie, they cheat, they screw whoever they want just for fame and power. Please listen to what they say and then check their record and their facts with you local library or google even.

Just waiting for the Minnesota Catholic Conference to register a PAC to get the age of consent lowered so that the priests can continue having their way with children with no consequences. I love the hypocrisy of religion. It’s not OK for two men to or two women to form a stable bond, but it is OK to shield pedophile priests from the law by sending them elsewhere – where they can harm more kids. Frankly, I cannot understand why any reasonable person would remain Catholic. Jon the Episcopal church where their clergy are allowed to marry and they don’t abuse kids and they don’t generally spend their followers money trying to enshrine hate in our government.

Oh yeah, one last thing; as long as churches insist on participating in politics, they need to pay taxes just like everyone else. Non profits should stay out of politics.

The Catholic Church continues to be the largest charitable non-governmental institution in the United States. But the U.S. is only 20% Catholic. Where is the money coming from the other 80%?

I have to laugh at your comments James. They are funny! Very fired up really! It is sad that priests get to beat around the child’s bush! Sickening. And there are plenty of tax dollars going to anti-gay organizations! It is pathetic!

I am not familiar enough with PACs to say much more on this subject.

The poor, hungry, homeless, jobless and ill keep growing in staggering numbers during this global economic crisis. Natural disasters disrupt millions and millions of lives along with their communities. We are in decade long wars and this is what some leaders in the Catholic church give priority? The wasted years and finances fighting to persecute Gay Americans by linking arms with other hate groups is ugly business.

My god, why do people get it confused so easily? They’re not promoting hate on the people, but hate on the sin! Hating the sin and the sinner are two completely different thigns with completely different results. Hating people won’t help us get anywhere but to our own demise. Hating sin can help create a better future for the children. Excuse them if they have enough sense to realize that this gay marriage law threatens the true meaning of marriage that’s already hanging from a thread, more diseases (or the increase of diseased people), and the innocence of our children, and their children’s children. Excuse them for trying to stop the true upcoming danger invisibly tacted to this gay marriage law from happening. If you think America’s in bad shape now, with the economy and all, you ain’t seen nothin yet. The people who already passed the law just said ‘I’m willing to risk the innocence of our children, the meaning of marriage we’ve already toyed with decades ago, and an increase in diseases for the sake of promoting sin and sending people to hell.’ Instead of wasting money on promoting gay marriage and risking sending other innocent people to hell, or getting dieseases, or poisoning a child’s innocent mind, we could’ve spent it to help the poor, but since some people decided to waste our money carelessly, we’re stuck with this horrible economy and budget cuts, unemployment, all of that jazz. You asked for it, but it’s not like others did too.
The Catholics here merely want to send a message that this nonsense needs to stop, that you’ve mistaken marriage for madness by placing ‘same-sex’ beside marriage and saying ‘there’. You have no idea what you’ve just done to your nation by fooling around with the real meaning of marriage, that tradition has been working for us for centuries and you’re wiling to toy around with what’s already been working and make a mockery out of our ancestors’ image of a great nation. Do you even recognize the meanign of marriage anymore? Not just bonding people but those words near the end of getting married that we cling onto? ‘
Do you not realize that gays have gotten into our system? Gay teachers can teach children to be in favor of homosexuality and gay marriage in school, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t need some stranger telling my children crap that I definitely don’t agree with! They can arugue about it with their adult friends, but they better not poison a child’s mind like that! They can be pastors lying in Jesus’s name that homosexuality is ‘okay’ when clearly the Bible says it’s wrong. Those pedophile pastors are highly likely not even Christian! Theyre false prophets! They could be an atheist or agnostic also(Look it up and see for yourself. It has happened).
Why do you think Sodom burned down? The citizens wanted to have sex with the same gender, YOUNG and old! The bible doesn’t say you go to hell for being gay, but for the sexual activity, something I notice that some people get totally confused. It’s sex between two men that can spread diseases. Why do you think God sends those people to hell? They spread sickness unto the nation, even the innocent ones that didn’t deserve it! And as we speak, a gay teacher might be at school, teaching their Kindergarden children that homosexuality is normal, and risking yet another child to go to hell for their own selfish sake. If the child wants to promote gay marriage, let them grow up and figure it out for themselves, instead of messing with their minds when they’re young and naive!
So tell me now: Are you wiling to drive that same fate into our children? Are you willing to ruin the innocence of our children for the sake of this so-called ‘gay rights’ that will do more damage to the society than good? Are you wiling to face the many problems that will follow from allowing this law to pass? Before jumpign up and saying ‘PASS IT’, ythink about the good and the bad, from all angles, not just religious reasons. I could exclude my religious reasons why I’m against it and STILL have a big reason to be against it.
The reason: I love little children too much to let others poison their innocent minds before they can even realize what’s right and what’s wrong. I envy that pure and happy spirit, they’re smiles of innocent joy. It makes my heart warm inside, and I can’t help but smile at every little boy and girl I see. I wouldn’t dare promote such a sick law that’ll ruin that purity within a child that I admire, and if you cared about our nation, you’d realize what you’ve just done by letting 7 states already pass the law and poison the minds of our future generations in those areas. And really, since when did govt need to butt into ancient tradition and what’s truly moral with a marriage anyways? Way to ruin the sanity and meaning of the word marriage, govt. You’ve truly soiled i to the ground by now.
And think of this for a moment: If homosexuality was ‘okay’ , then there wouldn’t be many people in the world like now, would there? Gays can’t reproduce, which leaves a big hole in any chances of them ever finding love within the same gender. Love may not be about sex, but without the true bonding of bodies that only sex between a man and a woman can experience, (not oral, anal, or toys, which can’t truly bond bodies together), the chances of their relationship being strong enough to be considered love is impossible. Marriage is a strong bond between body and soul, and without gays being able to bond physically(if they can even bond by soul also), it’s not love, therefore gay marriage is contradictory, and can only be considered lust. Believe it or not, we’re doing gays a favor also by banning gay marriage. At least they won’t make a big mistake by marrying the same sex, believing it’s love when it’s not even close, and to end up discouraged and feeling regret when the damage has already been done by committing to a person they didn’t truly love., or sticking with a so-called ‘love’ that was in blind actuality lust. And to be honest, I don’t believe in gayness altogether. I belive in hetereo and bi, but never being attracted to the same sex ONLY. I bet a girl has been atracted to at least one guy once in their life, and the same with a guy and a girl. Or that you’re a girl that likes guys but can’t seem to find that one guy for you, or a guy that likes girl and can’t find that one girl.
I believe that the whole homosexual rise of events in history came from the point of comparing themselves to African Americans, especially during MLKJ, which led to the rise in demand for equal rights just like how blacks earned equal rights. They’ve brainwashed themselves into believing they’re fighting just liek theAfrican Americans, that they’re no different, but race and sexual orientation are ENTIRELY different. Race isn’t a choice, while sexual orientation is. How many ex-gays are out there? Now how many ex-blacks? Exactly! By being gay, you’re CHOOSING to be teased and discriminated, therefore the fact that you don’t have your rights is merely because you CHOOSE to be without rights, however, race is entirely different because you were born with your color, born with that ethncity. It couldn’t be changed. People now have trieds to make gayness ‘okay’ by comparing it to race as if both aren’t a choice but they were ‘born with it’. I laugh at just the thought of it. I saw a vid on Youtube, can’t remember the name, and a group of women were looking at a book called ‘Gay is the new Black’.
. . . XD LOL! I laughed so hard. I am Black myself, and I could’ve been offended to be put at such a pitiful level to be compared to homosexuals just to give them some sympathy, but in reality, it sounded ridiculous. Really? Now gays are just asking for a pity party. It’s just sad how low you make yourselves look sometimes. Type in ex-gays and see if you don’t get any results. Being gay IS a choice, period, therefore this gay marriage law nonsense needs to stop. If you want your marriage rights so badly, stop fooling yourself into thinking you only like other men or other girls, and look around you, actually get to know some people of the other gender. You might’ve missed your chance at the man/woman you’ve wished for a long time ago because you’ve blinded yourself with a lie for so long you lost that chance you could’ve had. Or you might still have that chance now if you get off your high horse.

The preservation of the family is at the core of the Christian faith. It is critical to the welfare of society and has nothing to do with hating anyone. The Church does more good for the world than any of you can conceive. We open our arms with love for all gays with absolutely no judgement. If you want to look beyond all the noise, you will find nothing love and compassion.

@ Tony,

There are Billions of people of no christian faith that have a wonderful family core.

what of those?

Your history is foggy. The worst wars and death and destruction has been at the hands of the Church. the Churches history is one of power, greed and money. It has nothing to do with Faith.

As the Church has even proven in recent history that the greed and power is more important than safety of our children, with the hiding and moving around of pedophiles, within their congregation.

Welcoming with open arms? The Catholic political Radical Agenda in trying to indoctrinate the public with christian laws, is Un American, and Un Patriotic at its core. It condemns Gay people, picks and chooses what part of the bible it follows, and how to deal with it.

When was the last time you volunteered, and gave directly to the needy and not through the church, which pockets most of the money?

I stay home with my children, married to one man, for a quarter of a century now, I am not a Christian. I do NOT have Christian Values, I have my Family values, one that has the moral structure of equality and social justice at its core.
