Republican Rep. Kriesel joins groups opposing marriage amendment

Rep. John Kriesel, R-Cottage Grove, told Politics in Minnesota on Thursday that he has joined the steering committee of Minnesotans United for All Families, a coalition of labor, business and religious organizations that opposes a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Kriesel is one of a handful of Republican elected officials who oppose the amendment.

“I plan on being actively involved as much as I possibly can,” Kriesel told PIM.

Kriesel was one of the most outspoken members of the Legislature during the debate on the marriage amendment; the measure ultimately passed last May. Kriesel voted “no” on the amendment along with three fellow Republican House members.

Earlier this summer he spoke at an event sponsored by Republicans Against the Minnesota Marriage Amendment.

Kriesel is in his first term in the Minnesota House, winning the district that was previous held by the DFL. Prior to that, Kriesel was stationed in Iraq where an attack took both of his legs.

Wonder if NOM will be targeting him when he’s up for re-election? Would be interesting how they spin an attack on a Republican war-hero who gave both legs and nearly his life defending America.

Marriage equality is not a Democratic or Republican issue, a liberal or conservative one, it is a human issue, as we are all by our birthright as Americans due equal treatment under the law. Thank you Rep. Kriesel for recognizing that and we are happy to have you on our team!

Look at how Bush’s people successfully attacked John McCain – also a war hero – in 2000. They’re good at it.

Thank you so much, Rep. Kriesel, for your stance on this subject. I hope and pray that you will not be attacked by other Republicans for standing up for all people. You are a hero to many of us, because of your service to our country, and now because of your committment to all Minnesotans. Thank you.

Thank you, Rep. Kriesel ! It takes a strong man to break with the stalwarts of his party
and stand by his convictions. I applaud your actions, and I pray that yours will
be a long and blessed career in public life., Thank you!

You have to understand that there is the delusional world in which left wing extremists live, and the real world where everyone else lives. People like Max Cleland and John Kriesel gain office by LYING about their positions on issues … like gay marriage. Consequently they don’t last very long. Once people find them out, they are gone.
