Bachmann: Obama shouldn’t enact ‘warfare’ with new taxes on the rich
Monday, September 19, 2011 at 1:20 pm
“The President’s gimmicks and tax increases on the backs of small business and the middle class won’t grow our economy—only permanent fixes will,” Bachmann said in a statement. “The President should allow for repatriation of American money overseas, truly reform the entire tax code so it [is] fairer and flatter on all Americans, and get rid of job killing regulations, including on the energy sector, which will create millions of jobs.”
Obama has proposed reforming the tax code to get rid of loopholes, as well as increasing taxes on the rich so they pay the same proportion of their income in taxes as other Americans. The President pointed to billionaire Warren Buffett’s willingness to pay a higher share of taxes.
“Either we ask the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share in taxes, or we’re going to have to ask seniors to pay more for Medicare. We can’t afford to do both,” Obama said in a speech in the White House Rose Garden. “This is not class warfare, it’s math.”
Bachmann said the President’s plan was “compromising the future of our children.
“If Warren Buffett believes he doesn’t pay enough taxes, then he should write a check today to the Treasury, but he and the President shouldn’t enact warfare on the millions of small businesses, on charities and on middle class America with increased tax burdens,” Bachmann said.
Obama addressed accusations of “class warfare” in his speech.
“I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare,” Obama said. “I believe the American middle class, who’ve been pressured relentlessly for decades, believe it’s time that they were fought for as hard as the lobbyists and some lawmakers have fought to protect special treatment for billionaires and big corporations.”

Michele Bchmann makes it plainfully clear who she represents. It’s NOT the average constituent in the 6th CD barely hanging on to their homes, jobs, Health Insurance, making ends meet, etc. She does NOT go to bat for them.
The President is right. This is not Class Warfare. It is a question of math and how much the very wealthy can get away with paying in their fair share of Taxes. How many more yachts do they need to water ski behind?

Let’s face it. We have been involved in class warfare for a couple of decades now, but it’s been from the top down. Who is Bachmann or any of the Republicans trying to fool? People are starting to get wise to this fact, but it won’t stop these arrogant fools from trying to distract us from the truth. Just watch, this is gong to be the next mega chant from every Republican out there. I hope to God people don’t let them get away with it.

These Republican dimwits are so ignorant of history. If they want class warfare, bring on the French Revolution, vive la guillotine!, now that was class warfare. Minor tinkering with the tax code and government expenditures pales in comparison. As a former Obama supporter/contributor, i am going to sit the next election out. Maybe, if this country elects a Perry/Bachamann ticket, the ensuing crash will bring real and fundamental change.

I guess I can’t understand not voting, @woodbuck. If the repubs get their way, discrimination and actions against the middle class and poor will be enshrined into law, and maybe even a theocratic platform. It tends to be much harder to remove law than to enact it.
Even if you’re not willing to vote for President Obama despite that, at least vote for a third party candidate who aligns with your thoughts. I doubt the elected officials pay any attention to who didn’t vote, but they certainly pay attention to who got the votes, and a vote registered to a third party will certainly have more impact in that regard.

Bachmann is a grifter and scumbag. Her wealth has come directly from taxpayers in farm subsidies, clinic subsidies, a rich government paycheck with the best healthcare benefits in the world that average American’s will never experience. All this while having access to create and influence laws that will favor and benefit her multiple business.

[...] corporations has supply-siders crying into their silk hankies. Michelle Bachmann calls it “warfare,” but here’s a news flash: the rich declared war on the poor a couple generations ago. [...]
