MCCL slams Republicans for not passing anti-abortion measures

Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) sent a scathing fundraising letter to supporters complaining about the 2011 legislative session and blaming Republican leadership for not pressuring Gov. Mark Dayton to sign anti-abortion legislation.
Politics in Minnesota’s Paul Demko notes that MCCL President Leo LaLonde went after House Speaker Kurt Zellers and Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, both of whom are Republicans. The letter notes that MCCL’s finances are at an all-time low.
“I am going to be brutally honest,” LaLonde wrote. “I am devastated by the fact that not only were we unsuccessful in enacting any new pro-life laws this session, but we lost an existing pro-life policy for the first time since Roe V. Wade legalized abortion on demand!”
LaLonde criticized Republicans for the group’s legislative failures.
“[We] felt confident that House and Senate leaders would insist that at least some of our protective measures would be included in the final budget,” he said. “Senate Majority Leader Koch and Speaker of the House Zellers quickly struck a deal with Gov. Dayton, and in the blink of an eye all five pro-life measures that has been passed by nearly two-thirds, veto-proof margin during the legislative session were negotiated away.”
He added, “The Republican leaders lost sight of what is truly at stake—the lives of innocent human beings.”
The letter asked supporters for donations because MCCL is struggling financially.
“The uncertainty of the economy has not been kind to MCCL. Donations are down,” the letter reads. MCCL also said that they spent a lot of money in the 2011 legislative session: ”Our coffers are at an all-time low-will you help us?”

If MCCL was so pro-life, where were they when the legislature was talking about decreasing funding for schools, or reducing healthcare for the working poor or a lot of other issues that have to do with what happens after a baby is born? I’d be more convinced that “pro life” was really a commitment if the argument didn’t seem to always begin and end with demanding government control over a woman’s body.
That said, it’s not disappointing to me that donations to MCCL and other “do it my way” organizations like Focus on the Family are down.

What a surprise a bunch of bigot morons got scammed by a bunch of corrupt assholes. Stupid MCCL, don’t you realize what a wedge issue is? If the Republicans pass a bunch of anti-choice laws how are they going to rally the stupid sheep of the Christian Right against the godless Democrats? The MCCL and other idiots of the Christian Right have been getting scammed since the 1980s, why would you ignorant hate filled bigots think 2011 would be any different? But, you can’t exactly expect clear thinking from the stupid idiots that think abortion is the most important issue in America during 10% unemployment.

So what the MCCL is saying is they should have shut down the government longer to try to pass these stupid bills.
Freedom is pro choice.

If MCCL is pro-life, they could be doing something productive like helping couples adopt children, or providing education to orphans in third world countries, or offering parenting classes. Instead they wasted all of their money trying to put government in between women and their private decisions. And now they’re complaining that no one is giving them money. Hmm. Most people would realize this is because support for their current strategy is waning. They can either walk the walk and actually do things to support living humans, or they can fade into oblivion for refusing to accept that their religious beliefs cannot be forced upon everyone. Roe v. Wade is ancient history; most women of childbearing age today weren’t even alive when the decision was handed down. It was never overturned. Move on.
