Presidential candidate John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, will hold a rally on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Key Air Hangar at the Anoka County-Blaine Airport in the Twin Cities’ northern suburb of Blaine.
McCain’s visit coincides with two polls released this weekend showing Minnesota a close race. A Star Tribune poll of likely voters showed the race tied at 45 percent each for McCain and Sen. Barack Obama, an increase for McCain since May. A SurveyUSA poll has the race unchanged from last month with 49 percent for Obama and 47 for McCain.
McCain and Palin were just in Minnesota for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Prior to that event, McCain visited Minneapolis in June for a fundraiser and invitation-only town hall meeting. He was greeted by protesters from the peace and labor communities.

Folks,
The Obama/Biden proposed tax policies are much more conservative than any Republican president before Ronald Reagan. Since Reagan, we have gone from the greatest creditor nation to the greatest debtor nation. We owe countless billions to the Chinese and Saudis. We have outsourced our manufacturing base and encouraged illegal immigration. We pretend that the population explosion doesn’t exist and that there is an infinite supply of natural resources to go around. Although, there are democrats who share responsibility, these are primarily Republican driven policies. To you Rush Limbaugh fans: How often do hear Rush actually debate an expert on a particular subject who presents an opposing case? How can you judge a topic if you haven’t considered both sides of an issue. Rush is a great radio broadcaster. But he is all spin. If you want to hear a real courageous american broadcaster who invites authors and the leading experts from all across the political spectrum on his show to discuss and debate their viewpoints, check out Thom Hartmann.

Palin is nothing more than an extremist imbecile that has no business talking about half of modern American issues, let alone legislating on a federal level. I have to give credit to McCain, he didn’t even want Palin but the GOP somewhat forced his hand to pick an youthful women that was more conservative than he is. People now see a moderate conservative running with a crazy moron, but McCain would be the president, not Palin. People fail to realize that McCain couldn’t even stand up to his own party when picking a vice president, so we all know his cabinet would be full of George Bush look-alikes. These are the people making or influencing the decisions in Washington. We put so much emphasis on which person is going to lead, when really, it is about which party has control of the branch. After the last 8 years, we need to recognize that maybe someone else should get a chance for the next 4 years.

But perhaps that’s your plan. Dumb down the American public more than it already is, because a country of fearful idiots should increase your supporters.

Wow! Are all these posts by the same person? What other make believe things can we hear about? Let’s see, the republicans are honorable, decent people- good one. Not too funny, but def. good fantasy writing. The christian, usa version of god and all the perverted ways in which it is manifested in our public realm are not to be questioned because that is unpatriotic..? Yeah, that doesn’t even make sense! You religious right winged nut jobs have never been big on science or education, I know, but you are always good for a laugh. Let me ask you this, if “god” is on “our side”, why is America never once mentioned in the bible? Hhhmmm. Oh yeah, because that is a book from antiquity that was very poorly written. And god is not real. Must be depressing to base your whole life around a fantasy that isn’t even as thought out as something my 8 year old can come up with. Know what else is NEVER mentioned in the bible? Abortion. Or killing gay people. Or hating jews and blacks. Jesus was more into loving each other, because you all seemed to have missed that one. And let me just jump the gun here and say I know that some helpful little christian is going to jump on here and say one of the following three things, as is the formulaic way with these types 1.)repent before you are judged/god will judge you/you wil stand before your maker someday, ect or 2.) the devil is working through me/I am the devil, ect. or 3.) we are just a meak people, we love you and would never speak so poorly of you blah blah blah. Well, I am ok to let god judge me and hope you people leave me and my country alone. If you don’t like public education, teach your children at home. If you don’t like abortion, don’t have one. If you care about this country, you’d follow the laws of the land, and stop pushing your one view down everybodys’ throats. That’s not “witnessing”, that’s being crazy. And apparently, as our lack of social programs and infrastructure for the mentally ill suggests, being crazy doesn’t earn you any points with god. And McCain and Palin just suck totally on their own. GO OBAMA!!!!

Wow. I am amazed at the venom and hatred in a lot of these comments. One of the things that most Democrats (and, yes, I am a tree-hugging liberal Democrat from CALIFORNIA) really want is a respectful diaglog — not ranting and raving. How can WE as a nation — divided as we are — truly expect to “save” our country and the planet when a lot of people (yes, I am generalizing) seem ready to rant and rave and complain and spew hatred instead of trying to resolve, rationally and respectfully, the many problems facing us as humans. Stop the rhetoric. Learn and grow. Become part of the solution! Whether you like it or not, we are a global community and we had better start acting like it instead of shooting at everyone. Evolve, please!

How could any self respecting woman vote for Sarah Palin? The Repubs have been screaming sexism when anyone asks her a question. Its as though the poor little woman shouldn’t have to be held to the same standards that other candidates have to. She can’t do any press conferences-don’t ask her any tough questions or you are sexist. How can she let them treat her like she is retarded. I am a woman and I am so disgusted with the sexism being used by the Republicans in dealing with her candidacy. They choose this dumb broad, who is not allowed to answer questions unless they have made arrangements for her to do so and then she must answer only what they have told her. Sarah, aren’t you disgusted that they treat you like a dumb woman and then cry sexism. How can any woman respect you? How can you respect yourself. You are not our kind of woman.

I was at the Obama rally downtown Minneapolis and between 3500-4000 people showed up. That is remarkable given the fact that we didn’t even have the candidate there. 13000 to see McCain? Of course, Anoka County blue collar redneck types live out there. Not exactly the wealthy part of the metro area, yet, they continue to stupidly vote against their own economic interests. This is my opinion
Having read every post here, I have noticed one, very disturbing theme……
Nobody seems to want to discuss FACTUAL issues. There is nothing but name-calling and put-downs if “you don’t think the way I do!” Everyone is generalizing the others….i.e.
“Dems are really worked up about Sarah. She’s actually got them getting out of the beds they have in their mothers basements, ignoring their usual routines of smoking dope and spending hours looking at internet porno while their mom’s are out working, supporting their lazy 31 year old rear ends.”…….
“Sarah Palin is a vicious idiot. Dumbest woman I’ve ever heard in my life. Only an uneducated hick would vote for her. GO OBAMA!!!!”
I have to admit, it was harder finding an example of this from the Obama supporters, then the McCain supporters.
My point is…..if McCain’s platform is better for YOU…..that is great! If you want to tell folks WHY Obama’s platform is better FOR YOU….fantastic!! But do it with FACTS!!! Don’t just say……”Obama will raise your taxes!!!”….. His tax plan has guidline’s, as McCain’s does……and it may or may not raise MY taxes……you don’t know my financial status, nor anyone else’s.
These posts have gotten to be as ridiculous as the TV ads….. All half-truths, and omitted facts!
And now the name calling and put-downs!
Try sitting down with both platforms in front of you, and comparing them. See which is best for you, and then present those FACTS. ( and don’t omit anything negative your candidate might stand for)
Read what both candidates actually stand for……not what their opponents SAY they stand for.
Both candidates say they want CHANGE…….so don’t vote strictly by “Party Lines”……just because you have always, and will always be, a Democrat or Republican……
Stick to the factual issues and respect someone else’s opinion……that would TRULY be CHANGE!!
If you want to vote for Obama…..great!
If you want to vote for McCain….wonderful!
Just make sure you VOTE!
If everyone started acting respectful of others opinions, perhaps the TV ads would get back to ….”what I would do for this country”…..instead of “what they won’t do!”
I’m Bill, and I approved this post!

That’s it~they want to leave this mess to a Democrat, and blame the death of America on him. p.s. stand up to the corporate welfare queens. Call you congressman and tell him NO TAXPAYER BAILOUT FOR IRRESPONSIBLE GREEDY CORPORATIONS.
Latest dollar amount=700 billion of money coming from us, the hardworking wage earners, to save the sorry asses of crybaby financial institutions who can’t accept the consequences of their free market unfettered capitalistic greed.
Even a Repubicrap should be smart enough to see what’s going on with this. Our money, which we work for, being used to salvage the lazy butts of bankers and insurance moguls, who got rich by sucking the money out of our wallets in the first place.
Stand up and refuse to pay ONE MORE DIME in taxes until the government starts using our money to benefit US.

I wish we could all just get along. It is so terribly divided. All I know is, we have been running on a conservative right wing hawkish administration for 8 long years and it’s time to stop, get off this menagerie and get on the new train. Who cares what color Obama is, who cares if gays can get married. Let them! Look at all the kids we have without family to love them from heterosexual couples. Hi prices! Record oil profits! All under this administration and it gets worse as we near Nov4th. Coincidence? How about that Energy Commitee meeting that Cheney had years ago. Well I guess the plan worked. We all know Palin was brought in to try and get all those pissed off women who wanted to see lipstick in the white house and they don’t care who it is only that it is a women. And they’ll vote just because of that. Are you not tired of going down the same road for the wrong reasons. Wake up! Last chance. don’t F* it up because it has to be your way or you’ll pitch a fit.

If Palin is so skilled in fiscal conservatism, why is it should could not manage a tiny town without ruining its finances. Her record speaks for itself. She becomes mayor of a town with a $0 deficit and leaves it with over $22 million deficit wasting this money on a small park and a sports center which is still in litigation as she built it on contested property and the lawyers, can be sure some are Republican, are still making money.
Republicans are anything but fiscally responsible. Ronald Reagan ran for office blasting Jimmy Carter on the National Debt, but Ronny single handedly increased it 189% and we were not at war, and he didn’t use the money the lesson the suffering of the poor.
Lets put the numbers together in current dollars: (check the government websites for verification)
Carter left us a National Debt of $ 930,210,000,000
Reagan left us a National Debt of $ 2,684,392,000,000 (Increase from previous 189%)
Bush Act 1 left us a National Debt of $ 4,177,009,000,000 (Increase from previous 55.6%)
Clinton left us a National Debt of $ 5,662,216,013,697 (Increase from previous 36%, but was actually decreasing the amount when he left office)
Bush Act 2 (not over) has left us so far a National Debt of $ 9,229,172,659,218 (Increase 63% and counting)
McCain ? Why believe he will do any better than the last fiscal conservative to sit in office?

Notice the usual lib ELITISM (”of course, Anoka County blue collar redneck types live out there”) and CONDESCENSION (”Not exactly the wealthy part of the metro area, yet, they continue to stupidly vote against their own economic interests.”).
Joanne: Tell me, I thought it was democrats and liberals who “live in poverty” and are confined to the “inner city”. You sound like a snobby, well-paid, college-grad, who works at a job where the biggest threat to your being is an out of control electric stapler.
I was in St. Paul, MN for the RNC and I can definitely say that guilty white liberals put up with blizzards, -30 degree temperatures, tornadoes, and the Minnesota “state bird” (the mosquito, I was told), in order to live among one of the LEAST “DIVERSE” areas in the United States!!!
I saw a few Black people (probably the families of the Vikings/Twins/and Timberwolves professional sports teams) and even fewer Hispanics. There were some Asians, but if I wanted to make a quick million dollars, I would take a tractor trailer of Coppertone to Minnesota and sell sunscreen to all of those melanin-deficient, liberal, white folks.
If you lived next to Bedford Stuyvasant in Brooklyn, New York City, Watts in Los Angeles, or East Los Angelenos in L.A., and you were robbed and beaten every day, you would not be so liberal. I GUARANTEE it!!!

To whiny libs:
As a matter of fact, I live in the inner city and the biggest threat to my well-being when I am working with the mentally ill, is someone off of their meds who are violent. We have had several incidents here recently where individuals (public health nurse, social workers, etc) who do home visits have been attacked. The mental health delivery system is failing. If you didn’t see people of color here, you didn’t look very hard. I am not surprised that you didn’t since I didn’t see much diversity on the televised convention coverage. But that’s the good old GOP. I am more liberal because of where I work and live. I see the injustices on a daily basis. You are right in saying that I am educated but I am not those other things you characterized me as being. I could do a profile on you but I won’t bother. I apologize to the folks in Anoka County. But anyone north of the metro who voted for Michelle Bachman? What were you thinking?
