Republican Sen. Norm Coleman today said that he’s fine with Rep. Keith Ellison’s decision to take the oath of office on the Koran.

“First of all, I think it’s a ceremonial act, people have a right to worship in their way, and this is what Keith Ellison chose to do. From my perspective, he had that right. It’s freedom of religion in this country.” the Associated Press quoted him as saying.

But Coleman said that even though he disagrees with Dennis Prager, the conservative talk show host, who stirred the national controversy, the calls to rescind him from the board of the Holocaust Memorial are ridiculous.

Like Prager, Coleman is Jewish, but he used the Bible for his ceremonial swearing-in ceremony.

He joins Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a Republican firebrand, who also supported Ellison’s decision to put his hand on the Koran last week.
