Thune begins campain for re-election

St. Paul City Council Member Dave Thune is already campaigning for his next election in 2007. At a fundraiser Thune held Thursday night supporters were positive and upbeat when looking forward to another campaign season.
Thune’s seat is expected to be contested in part because of the Bridges of St. Paul project and the controversy surrounding it and developer Jerry Trooien. Thune has also faced strong opponents in the past, including his last election which was won by less than 100 votes.
About 75 people were expected to attend the low key event. Supporters packed into Thune’s coffee shop and chatted about the recent WSCO meeting, about the DFL’s win in the previous election, and their jobs. People didn’t seem that interested in talking about Thune’s potential opponents but were enthusiastic about his chances of winning. [edited to add]
Organizers were pleased with the turn out of just under 100 people and over $3000 raised.
